What is Sacred is, uh, Sacred
Ricks replied to FloridaBoy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At the Detroit NNL last year I had my models on my vendor table when i was packing up..Yea I know not a good spot for them but model pickup and vendor packup where about the same time. Anyways A young man about 9 or so comes over and grabs my MINI.. He picks it up looks at it and then sets it down and tries to push it.. Instantly I say please dont touch that.. He dont listen. I then say HEY DO NOT TOUCH.. He responds to my raised voice and leaves the model be.. His dad however decides that I shouldnt talk to his kid that way and give me a nasty scowl.. Like I did something wrong. Great fun.. I have kids.. They have been to shows with me.. They know You dont touch anything. Point of story..My mini survived undamaged and some people just dont respect the work that goes into our hobby. -
How Do You Separate and Organize Parts?
Ricks replied to FloridaBoy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
How I organize... Aftermarket stuff... PE Aluminum I use small home organizers. I have 7 three drawer units. I have them sorted as interior, chassis, engine, grills, brakes, etc, etc. Wheels.. For hanging wheels like pegasus I bought some cheap squares of cork. A few tacks and the wheels are organized. Boxed wheels get put onto the shelf.. I also use a tackle box for loose wheels and parts. I also find that the top portion is a very safe and secure place for decals. Smaller loose parts I sort all my smaller loose parts into Plano Stowaways. There clear storage containers mainly used for fishing stuff.. There pretty cheap to buy but hold a ton of stuff.. You will also notice my tools are in the pencil boxes.. Excuse the mess.. I dont get over to the bench much these days so stuff kinda piles up now.. Larger parts, rebuilders and the like.. I use either plastic shoe boxes or a large plastic tub.. I bag each kit seperatly to keep it all togther but I put them all together in the tub.. I have also used sport card boxes alot. The larger ones IIRC 900count hold a rebuilder or project nicely. -

Ricks replied to diymirage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
opps.. forgot about the rare estes one..The great garage. Its basically a 2 solid wall and two clear wall display case but it also has some killer tools. Its long oop but they do pop up on the bay from time to time.. expect to pay around 30-50 Just be sure you get the right scale as they also made some 1:43 scale kits.. -

Has anybody heard of Draggin Plastic?
Ricks replied to Blu_Hawke's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Has anyone been to Afx's website lately.. Theres a message there about new ownership.. Anyone have any word on this?? -
How are they going to force you?? Simple.. do it or leave.. Thats how it is everywhere.. Take off your shirt and go into BK.. they make you leave. Bring a beer to church.. they make you leave.. Its there website they get to set the rules for it. Im sure it will be set up with a paypal account having to be attached to your ebay account. Kinda like how years ago they made selles attach a Credit card. You were not allowed to buy or sell untill that action was done. Im sure they also wont allow a trading of address untill payment has been made..even then im sure only the seller gets an address not the buyer. They control now what you can send and how you can send it.. I can not mail in ebays system a website. Im sure they can program it to pick up zip codes and addresses.. The can prevent you from contacting outside of ebay to exchange addresses by not releasing your email to the buyer/seller so you have to use ebays in house mail that they control. Yes there may be loop holes but they will plug them fast. I sell a good deal on ebay.. I love paypal.. With money orders I have to go to the bank, cash or deposit money order, go to post office, wait in line, ship package. With paypal..print shipping label Drop package in mailbox.. done. Its a huge time saver. Ebay is also going to start limiting the amount of shipping people can charge. Also shipping is expensive. Its gone up a ton in the last few years. Shipping small detail items is cheap but go over a pound and it gets pricey real fast.. The last few kits ive shipped have run me around 6 bucks. a kit to canada cost me 12 and thats first class mail.. not priority..

Everyone has nice things to say about the new testors clear but I have had no luck with it. It sprayed great looked glass smooth when i was done spraying but when I came back a few hours later it had so much orange peal on it and it wasn"t very glossy. Ill have to try it again and see if i got a bad can or something..

Am I the only sucker who is old school and uses the good old super glue and baby powder.. LOL.. I used to use evercoat alot... Put after having two half cans go bad on me I will never buy it again. So I starting using sg and baby powder.. Works great for me. I dont fill huge areas with it or anything like that but for small jobs works great. If you do try it be sure you get your own baby powder.. The wife gets made when you steal the babies.

A Question About Wheels
Ricks replied to mikelo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
the copyright issueis real easy to overcome..Do it just like the big boys do.. Change some of the angles a little and call it a day. Look at torque trust wheels there about 10 1:1 makers of them. All a little different. As long as you change the wheel a bit you should have no issues. as for tires a sidewall like mr model does would be nice. simple with size and his name on it.. Gives it the detail without worry of copyrights.. If you do it I will buy a whole bunch. You can never have to many wheels. Ive looked into doing my own wheel line but its out of my budget now. Wheels in 18-24 inch scale would sell. Anything smaller wont sell much remember xs tuning wheels. I would love to see some billet style wheels. Centerline, Bonspeed, Bad billet and so forth. -
