A beautiful model, and on of the best paints ever developed... I once owned a 1961 Caddy Convertible, in the Pompeo Red color...wish I never had to sell it, but it helped fund my move to Honolulu, Hawaii, way back in 1978. I've owned a variety of classic cars - '64 El Camino with a transplanted 409, '62 Thunderbird Convertible, '55 Mercury Montclair, '66 Jaguar XKE Convertible, etc... out of all of these great classics, I still have dreams at times, of driving my '61... at one point, back in '76, I pulled the engine and tranny, had the tranny rebuilt (it kept breaking; a very weak link), and completely rebuilt and blue-printed the engine; it would easily do 120mph-plus, all night long, when I would roar up I-5 in Northern California, in the early morning hours returning home To Redding, Ca, from Santa Rosa, Ca... once you got the big beast rolling, it was a Rocket Ship!
Bought it from a good friend for $250, replaced the rotting original top, and tonneau cover with a maroon-looking vinyl material, that came very close to matching the interior seat covers... I also eventually had the front end completely rebuilt... it was a gorgeous looking car! Would love to find a model kit I could build, but looks like the '61 is as rare as hens teeth...
Again, beautiful model... came across this forum Googling model kits... Aloha to all of you '61 Caddy Convert lovers... and, in this photo, look how nicely the tonneau cover matches the color of the interior and paint... sure do miss this Beautiful Beast!
