  1. Update. I'm going to order a couple of dehumidifiers. I'll use one and put it next to the painting tent between coats and the other in the garage where I keep my models. I brought a humidity sensor too. I'll test them out and see if that helps.
  2. I was wondering about the hottness of duplicolor since its meant for metal. How should I do duplicolor? Is their primer hot? I usually like to stick to same brands with primer, paint and clear. Less change of a reaction. Should I just do several coatsbof dupicolor primer, paint then clear? Say the humidity is 60%-70%. How long should I wait between coats? I gotta Plymouth Cuda that I want to do in orange. So I might try Duplicolor Nissan Orange color match with their pirmer ans clear as well as flat black for the shaker hood, louvers and spoiler.
  3. Is Duplicolor good or is there another brand you use?
  4. Will it work over Tamiya lacquer or should I just try Mr Super Paint over a new model? I have a Cuda that doesnt even primer on it.
  5. I dont need them to be show quality. Im building hard body drag cars for slot car drag racing. I just want to make sure they look presentable and the paint will dry.
  6. How long should I wait between quotes. In low humidity it's 15 minutes or so between light coats. usually I do 2-3 light. Wait an hour and then start the wet coats. Also what about for clear coat? I usually do 2 light coats with 20 min gaps, then wait a day and then do several clear coats? I read on an older thread that Duplicolor might be better than Tamiya for high humidity? Any experience with this? I did a full scale hood years ago in Duplicolor but that was in 50 degree weather.
  7. I live in Florida and we only really have a few months were it isn't humid. Today we are back up to 90% humidity already. Can I still paint or do I have to wait several months? I'm using Tamiya Spray Lacquer.
  8. Thanks man for the advice. I put the car back in it's box and I am letting sit for a week.
  9. I have a 69 Camaro SS model kit. I just finished painting it in Tamiya Semi Gloss black. My plan is using a flame mask I got, to mask it, put on the flame mask and paint tamiya gloss purple flames. How long should I let the base coat sit for before masking the body in tape and painting the purple coats? Also should I sand the parts of the body where I am painting in purple? I'm assuming sanding with fine 1500-3000 grit sandpaper?
  10. So I've been painting a 66 Pontiac GTO with Tamiya Pearl White. As my mold was starting to get good coverage, I ran out of paint. Further bad news no one has Tamiya Pearl White for plastics save for one seller on eBay. No one locally had it. So I ordered it but it likely won't be here until the middle of next week. In that time, my car will have sat for over 5 days. I'm assuming this means the paint will have harden. What is the best step for resuming painting? Should I sand what's on that with fine sandpaper (2000-3000) grit like I would for a clear coat and resume painting?
  11. Ok. That might be good news then. My other model kits were only recently opened. They still had the shrink wrap and the decals are still in the boxes and the boxes are in AC home. The one Dale Earnhardt kit was opened, it was in a guy's garage and the decal sheet was out. For clear coating the decals, I have a question: I'm using Tamiya lacquer to paint the cars. Can I use Krylon on the decals and still clear the car/decals with Lacquer or should I just spray the decal sheet with Tamiya Lacquer and then apply them?
  12. I have several old 90s and early 2000s NASCAR kits. I was building a 1992 Monogram Dale Earnhardt. Everything went great save for the water slide decals. This was kind of a beater model kit and a test bed. I tried using Liquid Decal Film on the decal sheet. Aftering applying it and letting it set for a good 20 minutes. Almost every decal had cracked. I tried applying a few using microsol/set but just about every decal cracked when sliding off. I used steaming hot water, I wore gloves and used a dry paint brush. I have a 1998 Dale Earnhardt (the PLUS car) I really want to build as well as a 2002 Jeff Gordon with the Dupont Flames. Is there a way to save these decals? Or is it just up to chance at this point?
  13. I recently got into Slot Car Drag Racing and Slot Car NASCAR racing. So I'm building model kits again.
