  1. I'm retired... worked for 30 years as an auto tech. --ron
  2. OK, no problem. The store we usually go to has had kits go on clearance before... Sometimes down as low as $5.00, I believe. Actually, I picked up one kit... missing the body... for a buck. Hey, the tires and other parts were worth that much. At least to me. --ron
  3. No problem... after I answered your message I went into the dining room and El Flyer was still sitting on the table. I had forgotten to put it in the recycle bin. Anyway, I quickly checked and afterwards surmised that you might have meant Clipper instead. No harm, no foul. --ron
  4. Chris, Do you know how much longer the AMT clearance will be going on? The Michael's store I went to last night still had a fairly good supply of kits... although some of them were kits that I've passed over before. I guess cheap makes things look a lot better. --ron
  5. Hi Jeff, I went over to a nearby Michael's and took a coupon from the Clipper magazine which was due to expire tomorrow. I brought a kit up to the counter and asked the girl there if the coupon would count towards it. She scanned the kit and said, "Yes." So, I learned something and brought home a Resto Rod '66 Nova in the process. Cost was $5.78 including the state and county tax. I'll take it any day. I guess the people who denied me before just didn't know what the facts were and I just assumed that they knew what they were talking about. I did not know about the flyer having a Michael's coupon. ... and I've already taken the recycle bins out to the street! Thanks for the info! --ron
  6. I picked up the Resto Rod version (same one Crispy has) of this car tonight and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it had three sets of wheels, two sets of tires and two complete engines... well, three engines if you count the display short block and heads they also put in the box. --ron
  7. Nice work, Mark! I love those early NASCAR racers. --ron
  8. Hi Stan! I've also had pneumonia, albeit a long time ago but I agree... it's no fun. What you need to do is get in bed and rest. I can't even imagine how you're able to sit at the computer and type. Hope you feel better real soon. --ron
  9. Hi Stan, thanks for the welcome. In the short time that I've been here I've been quite impressed with the scope of knowledge available in these forums. I wish there had been something like this around many years ago when I first took up the hobby. --ron
  10. Hi Jeff, thanks for the welcome. Now, you should know as well as I that Nobody is actually from Florida! However, I live over on the mainland. Much closer to the gators than you! --ron
  11. That engine and transmission looks exactly like the one in my AMT '91 ZR1 Corvette model... sans the chrome. --ron
  12. Thanks, Chris! Looks like I'm going to have to go back over tomorrow evening then. I've got two 40% off coupons that I have to use this week. I would have sworn, however, that I've tried (or at least asked about) this before and been denied. --ron
  13. I'm not saying this because I have any problem with Fords.... I'm building a couple now. However, of this group, the Chevy's all look more interesting. The '51 Chevy and the Monte Carlo look particularly nice. The '67 Chevelle is a classic too. However, for the money you're talking about, why not get them all? Would you mind telling us where you found this deal? --ron
  14. I've really enjoyed this series. Lots of great early NASCAR history here. I remember watching a number of these cars race "back in the day." My only disappointment is in not finding Smokey's 7/8th '66 Chevelle in the mix. Many thanks! --ron
  15. They usually don't allow us to use the 40% off coupons on already discounted items. Wish they did. --ron
  16. Around here their selection is pretty random. And, not all of the local stores carry the same kits. I usually have to check out three different stores to be sure of covering everything. That said, they're still a good source for kits and they sell lots of other stuff that can be used for model building. --ron
  17. Thanks for the info on the kit maker. Paint looks really nice. --ron
  18. Thanks for the heads up. I sometimes get kits at Michaels using their 40% off coupon. Looks like I may be able to pick up a few things I've been wanting to add to my "waiting to be built" list and save the coupons for other stuff. Unfortunately, Michaels doesn't carry a very large selection of kits. At least around here. --ron
  19. Hi Gregg! Thanks for the welcome. Now that's really puzzling. You're weather is usually worse than ours. Yessir! --ron
  20. Is this the Lindberg '66 Chevelle SS396 kit? I don't see it listed on their site. I wonder if they're still making it. Looks good so far. I'm going to enjoy following along with this build. What color are you planning to paint the body? --ron
  21. I was just foolin' with you. I really don't know why there are so many modelers from Florida here. Maybe it's the weather! --ron
  22. Thanks for the welcome, Raul! Is that a trick question?
  23. Hi guys! I just joined a few days ago... after figuring out that my email provider was hiding the MCM verification email in their bit bucket! Anyway, I'm glad to be here and look forward to learning from all of you. --ron
