I picked up a couple of these new release Freightliners, and while the first is still a work in progress, I thought I'd share my opinions on the kit. Overall, not a bad kit, and I think these could really look nice done by some of you tallented modelers. Really not an over abundance of detail to the kit, but not a snap together either. I like that the instructions tell you what the part is, as not all of us were in the trucking industry, it helps me imagine what color I'd like to paint things. There are a couple of parts left over, they are not in the instructions, so they must not go on this truck The pictures in the instructions are a little vague, they even left out the bar that goes between the radius rods, at least thats where it goes on my model. Some items do not have holes to put them in, such as the radiator, they just basically show that it goes in front of the engine, but there is no designation as to the actual spot on the frame where it sits, hope you get it right, because there are hoses and things hooked up to one of those. Same with the marker lights and horns, but I suppose this is good, because it leaves you with some room for your own artistic expressions. I went to dry fit the interior into the cab, and found that it is too wide, and too deep, and it busted out my rear cab piece. I will fix this with my belt sander. My biggest dislike for this kit is the three piece cab, Why? Is there really a reason to ask me to piece these together, only to screw it up with my incompetent bondo abillities? All in all I am happy with it and am sure they will look nice pullin a covered wagon Here are a few shots of the WIP Hope you like it Tim

Whatever happened to service? It seems like these days, your lucky if you get a smile out of someone who is taking your money, but for them to actually give any kind of service seems to be a thing of the past. Its just a shame. I say lets go back to paddling kids and putting the fear of God into them, but thats a different thread altogether. Sorry to hear about your website Tim, it is one of my favorites for sure. Tim -
The Kenworth K100
studioman3 replied to Rider's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The Revell K100 is a nice kit, and not too hard to find on Ebay. Here's a pic or two of mine. I just picked up some photo etched stacks and chain binders from Sourkrauts and a set of alluminum tanks to add to my next one. Hope you like Tim -

Tim, Great job as usual, your scatchbuilding and photography skills are top notch. I have been wanting to do a big wrecker ever since that show Wrecked came on, but a twin steer? thats the icing on the cake! SWEEET! Tim -
Trailmobile WIP
studioman3 replied to Semi Trailer Mechanic's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Scott, great detail, very convincing, the interior is spot on. P.S. don't forget to scuff up them tires a little. -
Here's my latest 359, she has custom alluminum strait pipes, wipers, and fenders, rookie rods, the engine is plumbed and wired as is the firewall, air lines ran to the bags and brakes, electric lines ran to the tail lights and a custom headache rack. Now I can start on the lowboy she'll be pulling. In case you couldn't tell it is my favorite combination. Hope you like her, I was not happy with the color of the grey, I wanted something much darker, but theres always another one on the shelf.

I picked up an AMT Texaco trailer, not a bad little kit. I built it completly stock and would like to build a tractor for it since a friend of mine collects Texaco items. Any Idea what their set up was as far as truck/color? Thanks Tim here are a couple shots of it hitched up to my International, (I didn't get it out into the sunlight for a good pic yet)

James, Awsome work so far, your painting and weathering technique is very realistic. I am curious how you got the black into the cracks around the doors and hinges, its very believable. Nice Job Tim -
I started this one a while ago and got sidetracked for a couple months, it is now in the finishing stages and I am waiting on decals from Ken Goudy, in the mean time, I put some stickers on to get an Idea how she would look. The hood and some accessories are from Sourkrauts as I am trying to make it look like a truck from a company down the street from me. Thanks for looking.

studioman3 replied to studioman3's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks Jameston, I guess I'll go with grey. -
Was there a standard color for interior on the Mack RD? I have pics of the outside of the truck, but did not get any for the inside. Thanks Tim

Matt, Not sure what a log forward is, but I bet it would be fun to drive, and it looks like you got a good start on it. Tim -

need some help with a Mack
studioman3 replied to studioman3's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Kurt, thanks, Chris comes highly recomended, so I will be spending quite a bit of time on his site. I don't know much about trucks, (other than they're big, powerful, and just downright awsome to look at), not sure what model Mack this even is, I bought the R685ST because the fuel tanks looked right, hopefully I can get it pretty close to the original. need some help with a Mack
studioman3 replied to studioman3's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks Jason, ELS looks like th place for the decals, and I will take some shots of the crane as I go,though this will only be the second time I've worked with plastruct sheet to build a structure. -
I have been asked to do a model for a company down the street who delivers concrete vessels. Its a Mack, and I grabbed a couple of pics of it, but I'm gonna need some parts (retangle headlights and horns) also I would like to make the logo decals or have someone make them for me. Any ideas? I have a side view drawing of the crane along with a couple of pics, so I shoould be able to scratch build that. Thanks Tim
