  1. "Tim, Absolutly amazing work! Where do you get your plans? How do you go about starting something like this?" Thank you, Actually, I just wing it, I don't have any plans, I printed some pics off the web and just kinda went from there. The lowboy is actually pretty easy, its a 4 I-beam build with about 30 crossmembers (I use a cut-off saw so they are all the same length), the gooseneck was the hard part, but I think I have it close. I need to find a real lowboy to get a better idea of how they really work. I have sean some with the hydraulics on top pushing back instead pushing down in the back. I'm still not sure how the hydraulic pump works, or where its even located. It took a while to figure out how to put ramps on that woulf fold all the way down to the ground, and all the way back to the deck, after looking at more pics, I realized that some use two hinges connected together instead of just one. The three axle rear end is off the AMT lowboy model kit. I just started building models again last year after a 30-35 year break, so I'm still practicing alot, but inspired by Tim and some of the other guys on here that are just amasing builders. Unfortunately, I will sell most everything I build because I don't have a place to show them and it affords me to build more, but I my keep this one for myself. Tim
  2. Well, I have finished another 50 ton lowboy, this time in red, shown hooked up to my triaxle KW and also Paystar 5000. The gooseneck has a pin to release it and also hydraulics that move up and down. It pivits on two tiny bolts that can be tightened down to hold it in any position. This is by far the best one I have done as far as quality and detail IMO. I hope to build a display case for it and maybe hang on to this one. See what you think. Tim here's a pic to get your interest, the rest are on the photobucket link. The crane is still sitting on the Paysyar as I still am undecided where and when to use it, but it was a nice day out for taking pics. http://s140.photobucket.com/albums/r20/stu...mview=slideshow
  3. Tim, As usual, this is just awsome! its great that they give you such a great hands on tour, and in return, you probably blew their minds with that collection of models. Heck, I still can't tell the differance between yours and theirs. Just amasing! A true inspiration. Tim
  4. I agree with all, this engine is awsome, how did you get the two tone effect, it looks like gold underneath the blue/grey, which makes it look so realistic, very nice. The detail of hoses, and decals make the differance for sure. The headace rack is also fabulous, and yes, some pointers on the binders would be great! Nice Tim
  5. Thanks Ray, Bill, I will probably just do the flatbed like a brick hauler as I can get some 1:1 pics down the road at the concrete place, they do septic tanks and such, and usually haul a matching trailer behind them. The crane was a kit I happened to run across, that is just a couple peices of Greenboard with the parts drawn on them. It was quite the challenge since I have never cut anything out of that before. Also the hydraulics were solid, so I made my own out of alluminum tubing so that the arms could move like the real deal. The hoses are rubber tubing with alluminum tubing on the ends for conectors/fittings. I still need to do the rigging with cable and a hook of some sort. I'm wondering, since I build the lowboys with hydraulics also, where does the pump come from, the trailer? the tractor? the crane? and also what does a pump look like and is it hooked up to a tank? If anyone knows, or has pics, please let me know. Thanks Tim
  6. Chris, nice job, I love the color, as for the chains, I agree with Tim, also there are some on evil bay occassionally. Tim
  7. Here's a project I've been working on, a Paystar 5000, I was going to make it a heavy hauling tractor, but then I found this crane, needless to say, its a whole new can o worms as to how to finish this off now. I might do a flatbed with a rear mounted crane with a matching trailer like they use in the brick yards. Anyway, they both need more detailing, but we got a sunny warm day, so I had to take some pics. See what ya think. Tim
  8. Thanks for the kind words guys, I had a great time building them, but no real place to show them off, so they sold on Ebay, and I get to start on the next batch. I have 4 more lowbooys to make, a couple more Petes, a couple paystar 5000s, a couple pahauler 350s and two fire trucks, its gonna be a great winter!
  9. Tim, Very nice work, love the color. Tim
  10. Billd, Sorry, the auctions ended last night, but I would be happy to answer any questions on here, or email me at Bugsbunny34@sssnet.com Thanks Tim
  11. Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I have been very busy, I finished up a single axle 359 Pete and another lowboy (twin axle detach gooseneck) to go with my others, makes for a nice set of rigs for a constructions company. I have plenty more to put on the bench, but, sad to say I have no room to show any new models, so my three Petes and lowboy trailers went on ebay. Here my photobucket link to show the fun I had taking pics before they go. Enjoy http://s392.photobucket.com/albums/pp3/stu...mview=slideshow Tim
  12. Will, That is some awsome detail work, very impressive. The tail lights are the bomb! What did you use to make them? Also love all of the U-joints detail. Can't wait to see this one finished up! Tim
  13. Scott, Great work, that is some awsome detail. Tim
  14. Tim, Looks great, love the tomato red, and the oversized stack. Not sure I like the red oval over the vent, but it is just like the real one. Nice Job!' Tim
  15. She is back together, no problems, no scratches, just bent ego lol, I am now off to create some rear fenders and decide on decals and add chains and maybe a headache rack and a wire deck plate and... and ... and.. well,... you get the picture. Tim
  16. Only the cab fell off, I only found one piece to be broken, the rest just popped off, all windows, wipers, grab handles, grille, headlights, air deflector, and bed, it should go back together alright, but hopefully its not scratched up, I didn't have the heart to look at that yet. Good news is, the camera seems to work fine, LOL, The colors look real good and I am able to focus where I want, unlike with my digital camer. The rear fenders are off of my Alsakan Pete, but they fit fine, so I will have to find a donor set, or try to fabricate my own. Thanks for the kind words. Tim
  17. I have been building a Kenworth K100 Aero with a streched frame and 3rd axle, (thanks Tim for the help with rims and rubber), I had just finished with all of the build except for some detailing, rear fenders, and decals, and thought, hey, let's try out my new camera, and take a couple quick pics out in the sunlight. I loaded the truck, along with my lowboy, onto a long mirror and headed outside, Here are the shots. I have the mirror sitting on an old fire box about 3 feet tall, when I went to take the next shot, something was missing, The whole cab fell off the front of the truck, down 3 feet, onto a brick patio ..... .... ... Back to the building table....... Tim
  18. Tim, These trailers are awsome! Very realistic, as always, nice details, jeesh, you pump out the custom scratch built kits faster than I can piece together a stock-box kit. Just amazing! Tim
  19. Tim, Great job, as always, they both look good. The air cleaner detail really makes a differance from the stock version, I was wondering though, where do you get the grille without mesh in it, I really like that detail, but would never be able to cut one from a stock piece. Also, are those stock wipers? I usually leave the wipers off because the stock ones are not very good looking, however, yours look very real to me. Headed to the website now for a better look. Tim
  20. Looks real good to me, ... Maroon? Nice Job Tim
  21. I have to agree with the rest, man I would hate to get that thing dirty, it is an awsome build! Tim
  22. Guys, Thanks for all the great responses, I really had a lot of fun putting it all together. Tim
  23. Scott, Looks great, love the ladies on the mudflaps, nice detail. Tim
  24. Very nice lookin rig. Great job on the scratch built lowboy. Tim
  25. Tim She's a beauty, nice work. But hey........No red ovals? I musta seen Duel a 1000 times, hope to see another 1000 lol. Tim
