  1. I was at the Gilmore Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan last week and saw hundreds of cars of all shapes and scales in their many buildings. One of the displays is of cars from the Fisher Craftsman Guild. If you have never heard of this guild, look it up and read all about it. Here is a link to the cars that are on display at The Gilmore, as well as some other models in the museum...enjoy :)

  2. Follow up...I just came from the 'museum' webpage and there is very little information there, the last date being December 2019. There are pictures of 3 cars and an engine, no other pictures. The only words are telling about setting up a webpage.

Does it still exist? Where are the models? The books? The magazines? The History? Will I ever get a 'thank you' for the contributions that I made 10 and 15 years ago? Will the 'museum' ever tell us about the models in the 'Oakland Roadster Show Display'?

FYI...'Museum' is in quotation marks as it is not listed on the State of Utah museum register nor the United States museum register. Too bad, it had so much potential and may still have if it is ever updated.

  3. If you are in the area Sunday, October 30th, there is a car & parts swap meet from 9:30AM to about 2PM when people start packing up. There is a large field outside and 2 large building with vendors inside. I will be inside selling model cars, car posters, car parts, magazines, whatever else I can get in my SUV :)

  4. 19 days on the road, 5,300 Kilometres (3,293 miles), Stahl's Museum, Michigan; Auburn Cord Duesenberg & Natmus Museums, Indiana; Indy Motor Speedway Museum, Indiana; Gateway Arch, Missouri; Oklahoma Firefighters Museum, Oklahoma; Bob Dylan & Woody Guthrie Museums, Oklahoma. Our car is a Toyota Camry Hybrid that averaged 55MPG :) We are probably going to do it again next year and see different museums. My next road trip is next month, Gilmore Museum, Michigan on the way to D.A.A.M. show in Warren. Do it while I can, my new motto :)

  5. Bob - one of the local hobby shops got a call a while back offering a model collection including built cars, projects, tools, paints, etc.. He knew the builder and bought it all. So far, he has been displaying the built cars in a showcase and plans to keep them on display as a tribute to Rick. He is only selling a few pieces to close friends of Rick.

Some of you may have known Rick Grant, aka Krazy Rick, who passed away last November 11th. He was krazy...about cars...and a very good painter and builder. Today I got one of his builds, the very vintage MPC Turbo Shark. I have mounted it in a Tamiya showcase to keep it safe. It will remind me of the many times he telephoned me...at 5AM...to talk about whatever related to cars. It will also remind me of his ability to get lost when going somewhere, a very bad sense of direction 🙂 But his ability to build, mold putty and paint was way above average...enjoy 🙂
    Thanks Krazy 🙂

  7. This year I decided to go to The Glen for the weekend rather than just a day. I arrived Thursday and picked up my media credentials, which included walking through a tent full of Bugatti racers (took an hour to walk 100 feet). If you have never been to this event and you get the chance, go. I am already booked into the motel for next year :)  I toured the area a bit, Corning Museum, The Gorge, Seneca Lake, the usual. Friday morning at Smalley's Garage in the village (yes, Watkins Glen is a village), they have a ceremonial inspection of cars, most driven from the track. About noon, they close down the main street of the village and start with the driving tours. Mid-afternoon, the race cars start to appear, driven from the track about 5 miles away. Do you know what a Trans Am Camaro sounds like in a village? I do :)About 5PM, they fire them up and do 2 laps around the original circuit around the village. I stood on the road as they went my with my camera running a short video. Was it loud? Yup :) Did it smell of gas and oil and rubber? Yup :) Were my legs getting battered by exhaust? Yup :) Did I move off the road away from the cars? Nope :) Lots of people told me they only come for this part of the weekend, the cars parked on the street and then driving. You have to be there to get the full effect. Go straight to Watkins Glen, do not pass it up, take your friends, your family, your full senses, just go :)

  8. Excellent re-build and improving the details. I have been a Bugatti fan for many years and saw 22 at Watkins Glen Historic this year. Regarding the piano hinge, there used to be a company that made piano hinges for 24th and 43rd cars as I had one several years ago, that might be a solution to the large hinge on the hood.

Thanks for sharing your work :)

  9. This was the 8th Concours at this site, the greens of a golf course on the shore of Georgian Bay, only 2 hours north of Toronto. The weekend included a road tour on Friday morning; cars & coffee at the Wiarton Keppel airport, a LeMons display in Owen Sound, seminars from Porsche in Owen Sound on Saturday; the Concours on Sunday. Sunday started out wet but by mid-morning the sun was shining and the crowds came out to enjoy a great show. I took lot of photographs and they are in my album at the link, and don't miss the videos at the end of the album :) . My favourite car was the 1964 Ferrari 330 America...until I saw the 1922 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, wow on both! The Bugatti drove from Colorado via Watkins Glen and it is driving home. Oh, and two from the GM Heritage Centre :) Enjoy...

  10. In 1990 or 91, Jay brought that car to Speedorama Custom Car Show in Toronto. My friend was the show manager and 'conned' :)  me into helping put a coat of wax on the car, a result of my selling Meguiar's Wax at the time. The car was unloaded from a flatbed truck and moved with a fork lift, driving such a long vehicle around corners was not possible. Your model brought back some fun memories as they filled the pool with water and had some ladies model in it :)

  11. Group 25 Model Car Builders Club set up at this new venue for cruises in the area. The mall has a large parking lot with room enough for cruisers and spectators. There was an excellent response from everyone and the club will do it again in a few weeks. If you are in the area, drop by the cruise, almost every Saturday from 4PM to dusk. In the meantime, here are a few cars to enjoy :)

  12. This past weekend was the IMSA Chevrolet Grand Prix held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. There were several classes and types of cars, although a few teams were unable to make the trip. The cars were fast, very fast, with the winning Cadillac DPi (Daytona Prototype International) car averaging about 138MPH over the 2.49 mile course for 2 hours, 40 minutes, 123 laps. A new qualifying record was set and that kept everyone on their toes for race day. There were also support races and the TCR race on Saturday was very close and was won by 2 Canadian drivers, Robert Wickens and Mark Wilkins. The weekend also had an historic race with some F1 and Atlantic cars, they still look good. I managed to take a few photographs (over 2,000), so grab a drink and set a spell :)

  13.

Last week I came across a bunch of proof sheets from the olden days of film. Rather than toss them in the recycling bin, I decided to use them as background for a display. I cut out the thumbnail pictures, a daunting task :) , and then stuck them on the backdrop of my generic display. Each row is 25-30 pictures. I have more for my next idea, whatever that is :)

  14. That looks great! You are right, not a junk kit, in my opinion either. I restored an original '63 coupe many years ago and built it stock. I took a glue bomb and built it as a custom. Both were good kits to build. One difference is that the rear window had a depression in it for the split window bar and the molding was crisper. I have the convertible to restore next and it has the original flip headlights :)

  16. This past weekend was the annual swap meet and car show in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada. I went Saturday morning and found the weather perfect, 65F and sunny. I walked through the vendor areas for about 2 hours, found a few things :) and then headed for the car show. (the 1/8th Corvette came from an estate sale :) )

The first car I saw was a 83 1/2 Monte Carlo SS belonging to an old friend. Gary bought the car new, sold it just before he got married and bought it back a few years ago. The second owner seldom drove it and barely put on 100 miles. The car now has about 113,000 miles. Sidebar...about 1986, Gary was living in Montreal and I was living in Toronto. It was Toledo NNL weekend. Gary had a 32 Ford steel body to drop off at a friend's in southern Ohio and had it loaded on a trailer. Gary picked me up Thursday and we headed to Ohio. Gary drove there and we arrived about 3AM, spent about 3 hours having breakfast and then headed to his friend's house, where they promptly served us breakfast. We unloaded the car and then I drove to Toledo, the SS still pulling the trailer. Gary napped and I headed north, about 150 miles, or as I found out, a 2 hour (or less) drive :) The car ran well and it still does today, smooth as silk and Gary keeps it cleaner than the day it was new.

Here is a link to the album, enjoy my photographs. :)
