Revell "Orange Crate" '32 Ford Sedan Hot Rod
novadose71 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I built this resin hood version several years ago, but i replaced the resin piece with modified parts from Monograms 1/24 32 Ford roadster. I forgot to drill the two breather holes to mate with the air cleaners when the "hood" is closed, but whaddya gonna do. I am interested to see how they handle the hood in the re-issue. Hoping to get a couple more of these, one for all the great parts and one so I can build one of the earlier versions. -
Thanks for the comments guys. The top and interior were sprayed with a couple of smooth coats of Duplicolor auto touchup lacquer, Chrysler Radiant Fire is the color. I used Krylon Crystal Clear in satin and flat to get the different sheens and textures on the red area's, The top was hit with a couple of wet mist coats of flat. The lower doorpanels and seatbacks got one wet mist of satin and I sprayed several coats of flat from about 2-3 feet to get a nice dry texture for the "fabric" area's on the seats. It's going back to my bench this weekend to get those headlight pegs painted and yes, I do like it better shiny Thanks again, over and out.

Built as a "what if it were nice" replica of the rusty primered Monte I had in the early 90's. Revell snap kit. I made the landau top into a full vinyl top, added parts box wheels and tires and a few interior details...otherwise it's right out of box. In keeping with the original, paint is Plasticote black sandable primer, but with duplicolor clear lacquer. Thanks for lookin'

The VEGA & PINTO Celebration Thread
novadose71 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
My Mom's friend had a Baby Blue Cruisin Wagon when I was a kid, way cooler than my moms white over tan window wagon that she coincidentally traded a Vega in on. I don't know if I can celebrate Mom's after it tried to kill me on a couple of occasions. I remember the passenger door flew wide open on a sweeping left hand curve, I happened to be in the passenger seat, thankfully buckled tight but still scared the heck out of us. I also remember spinning 3 or 4 times into oncoming traffic on a long section of black ice at 50 odd mph, Mom had to pull over on the shoulder for a couple minutes on that one. Donuts and drifting on the gravel roads with Dad was a lot of fun for my friends and I, but It finally munched the timing gears(or something along those lines), stranding us in the middle of Illinois on a family trip to St Louis. Grandpa came to tow it, and us, home. Dad couldn't, or didn't want to fix it so he let us kids finish it off with hammers, baseball bats, what have you as long as we didn't break any windows. That went on for a few weeks before we hauled it off to the salvage yard. Come to think of the 5 or so years we had that car, it was a big part of growing up for me. This was going to be the light blue one, but now I'm not sure which one to build from this? -
Circus Freakshow
novadose71 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My first year with my club we built this circus based diorama. Animal kingdom was the show theme at the Milwaukee NNL that year, about an hour from the Circus world museum in Baraboo, WI, so we ran with it. Train cars and wagons were scratchbuilt with handlaid tracks. More pics at the link, I'd post more but my copy and paste from Photobucket seems to be real hit or miss lately. BTW I built the green herpatorium (snake) wagon http://s202.photobuc...rain/?start=all -
They have a statement on their site under their going out of business message that say's due to demand,IE first come first serve, they can't ship as fast as in the past. And I don't think they will pulll your money till they get to your order in case they sell out of something you may have ordered. Got mine last week, be patient, they won't hose ya

Interiors are one of my favorite parts of a model, along with the body engine and chassis....... and the wheels. Anyway, this was done with SEM Landau Black vinyl dye...it's kind of pricey(IIRC $12-$14 a can) but I already had it lying around. Maybe try whatever vinyl paint they have at your local auto parts store. Different textures and sheens will really make an interior come alive, the dash pad on this was taped off and shot from a distance to get the textured finish. It's hard to see here but the plastic gauge cluster and around the shifter were brushed with a different clear to give those area's a shinier plastic appearance. Have fun with it and experiment.

Can I see some crazy Drivetrain swaps?!
novadose71 replied to Jesse D's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
ZR-1 Vette engine under the twin turbo/intercooler setup from the Callaway Speedster kit in a 68 AMX. You could actually call it a body swap because the only thing AMX is the body, but at a glance might be mistaken for a engine swap. Still not finished and considering adding a 401 AMC engine instead, with the twin turbo's of course. Callaway MX 427 SOHC Ford on 32 Rails with a 34 body. While not too crazy of a swap, it would make for a crazy ride. Blown 427 Chevy in a Ferrari 250 GTO mock-up -
Been watching this on Spotlight. This is great, you are a master

GM missed the boat on that one. Here's a project our club built in 2007 This one is now offered by Jimmy Flintstone. The 79 version was supposed to get cast as well but the builder couldn't bring himself to tear his apart, he started on a clone but never finished it that I'm aware of. http://s202.photobuc...bird/?start=all

Sometimes, you just gotta dig down deep.

Started riding a 72 ATC 90 when I was 5 or 6, Dad had it bored with a header and replaced the rimless balloon tires with regular rims and knobby tires. Moved to a 185s, 200x (finally some suspension travel:), then on to a 250R, we dubbed that one "the mother of all things fast". My friends and I would leave to go riding in the morning, come home to gas up the machines a few times throughout the day, and come home after dark) I am currently looking for an old 90 to restore, and a 250r for riding. Dad and some cousins of mine have had several different 4 wheelers since then. It takes a different riding style that I don't really care for....give me 3 wheels any day. That big wheel pic is great . Reminds me of tying them to the back of the 3 wheelers and pulling each other around (don't even think of putting your feet on the pedals at speed )and doing the same with sleds and tractor innertubes in the winter. We might have been a bunch of idiots, but being a kid was a blast back then. Beats the heck out of video games and watching TV, which is all my son seems to want to do. -
66 Dodge Van
novadose71 replied to Evil Appetite's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lindberg makes the A-100 Pickup (Little Red Wagon) kit and JImmy flintstone has the body to go with it, it's probably under $20 too. Sweet van in the pic btw -

GMC Astro 95 and Freuhauf dry van
novadose71 replied to novadose71's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
My bench is trashed and I'm really enjoying this build but, man is there a lot to do on this thing. I made a little more progress over last weekend. I finally got the second color on the cab after putting it off for several weeks, then taping and retaping for about 4 hours Saturday night....... the pinstripe gets a little goofy in the corners and up the sides, so a bit of touch-up is in order, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I added some more weathering to and just about finished assembling the chassis/drivetrain bits and pieces. The tanks are next to grime up and hang...and I still need to get back at that interior. I tried to get the silvery gray color I seem to remember seeing on 1:1 trailers in the past, it's close enough for me. Once I get the roof painted I can glue the box together then grease n grime this thing too. Thanks for lookin' -
GMC Astro 95 and Freuhauf dry van
novadose71 replied to novadose71's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I'm a little slow getting pics on the puter so this is where the chassis was as of last weekend I had her mocked up for a club meeting a couple weeks ago, so I figured I'd get a couple pics. Decals are just paper and two sided tape for mockup, I still need to decide which graphics I want for the trailer so I can have them printed. With any luck I'll get some more pics up before it's finished -
Vintage Racing Miniatures
novadose71 replied to airb's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have the DX, NART and James Garner Corvette sets. Very, very nice artwork, large sets to do several cars, and they are printed by Cartograf IIRC. I wouldn't hesitate to order. I haven't started my stack of vette kits so I can not vouch for the ease of application, but can only assume they go on like any other Cartograf decals. -
GMC Astro 95 and Freuhauf dry van
novadose71 replied to novadose71's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nothing is glued together yet so take it easy on me.......I just threw it together to get some pics. I did lower the seats this morning....much better. I still need to modify the horn button to represent the GMC wheel, do some more detailing and weather itbefore gluing everything together. You got me thinking on the tires, I tried my Freightliner tires this morning and they look better and actually fit the wheels but I don't wanna rob that kit of it's parts, then I remembered the leftover tires from my ALF Pumper, same as the Astro tires but molded much nicer, so I will use those to replace some of the out of round kit tires and call them good. I didn't even notice the 5th wheel until someone pointed it out, I know better, just a little spacey lately. I promise it will be turned around before gluing it on Oh and I'm stealing your blanket idea Thanks guys -
I haven't built a bigrig since I was a kid, so when I got a chance to grab the GMC kit from a friends stash in a club collection raid, I couldn't resist.........and with a December deadline I would be forced to finish it. It has to have a trailer so I added the Freuhauf dry van to the build shortly after it was re-released, I'll try to take some pics of that progress early this week. These will be built mostly box stock with some light weathering. I figure I am about halfway done with the whole thing but will be focusing in the tractor to meet the early Dec. deadline ,then I can finish the trailer as time allows.

Thanks guys. I wish they were, but those decals aren't available anymore. They really make an interior standout. In fact I just used my leftovers on another project last night.

Started a WIP with this one and had so many paint problems I quit posting it, well it's finally done and on to my other projects. This is a paint and decal re-do of a nice 75 Roadrunner promo. Painted Spinnaker White with the stripe and emblem decals from Kieth Marks and interior decals from Bill Goldbach....and Chrometech did the bumpers. I made the door pulls and lenses for the gauges. Wheels are from the Daisy's Roadrunner and the tires from a die-cast. That is all, thanks for lookin
