  1. I had no idea my story would generate the response and the passion it's generated. Still I want everyone involved who bothered to write in that I actually sat and re read every last post. First let me tell you I have been a mechanic since 1966. I have also been a manufacturer of after market accessories for the Van and R V industry. I've also owned a Taxi( 83) Dodge Diplomat , and I have been an installer of wrecker bodies for Jerr-Dann and Century. In addition to that I have years of experience towing all kinds of vehicles , both big trucks and sports cars I still own a 1953 Ford Panel Delivery with a Flat-Head in it and a 78 Ford E-150. I'll also add this too. I have said this for years that if some manufacturer built a car with a Chevrolet body, a ford engine and a Chrysler transmission then we could shut down the entire automobile union . Actually I kinda like the Chrysler mini vans. Still, this isn't the first time I have experienced problems. I had a Plymouth mini van from 1995. I had many of the same electrical problems on that van as I've experienced on the Chrysler. In fact electrical problems have been a big problem with every Chrysler product I ever encountered. They seem to have some of the worst body construction I've ever seen, uh 68 Chargers. Still, I've only seen where the G M Hydra- Matic of the 1950's and G M's Turbo 400 were up to any real duties. Sorry Bow-tie Boys , but in towing I'd much rather have a Ford Gas wrecker than any thing Chevrolet produces, the frames flex too much for me . And Please don't get me started on Toyota, there was a commercial running on T V back in 79 . The guy was screaming "America, you asked for it and you got it. Toyota! ". Well, I screamed back at the TV "oh no I don't, I like my rusty 69 Ford 1 ton Van. Yes, it was rusty, got 10 miles to the gallon , but hell, you couldn't buy gasoline in the Gulf coast region then any way , so what did it matter. Ed Shaver

  2. Oilman, I hit the wrong key, my mistake, thank you. The reason I asked in the first place is the fact I drove a Ford F-600 with one of those Cat engines in it for an oil company that delivered heating oil. I did a model of the truck a couple of years ago. Still the A M T kit comes with a "Gas " engine in it . Still one can combine the Allison automatic with another motor. Thanks for your help Ed Shaver

  3. Hey Budroww.. how be things in da biyou..... seriously, was that an A M T annual or was it their flawed 69? Please keep me informed as I am a fan of both years. I also had a real 69 once with a manual and a 307 V-8. Ed Shaver

Heres My 68 El Camino That Started Out As A Glue Bomb The Body Has Been Sitting In My Parts Box For 3 Years One Day I Was Going Through My Parts Box So I Figured I Build This Beauty. I Couldnt Find The Frame So I Finally Got One From A Revell 66 Chevelle Wagon It Fits Though I Might Have To Do Some Fabrication To It I'll Keep Ya'll Posted On This Build.

  5. You know I P M S Richmond Virginia has always put me as well as acouple of other builders in the "weird" catagory. Look I scratch build gasoline pumps primarly because I consider them art and no one else builds them. Granted, I have to enter my stuff in Misc. along with models of Pratt and Whitney airplane engines, but so what. People do respect me for the fact that I know a lot about oil company history and I share that information with any one needing help Don't just talk, BUILD IT PEOPLE WILL STOP AND LOOK AT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ed Shaver

  6. First, let me express my un dieing thanks to Dodge , uh Bill Mr. Patterson , Jello and everyone else that took the time to try and help. Yes its the alarm. Problem is , it's 1400.00 to fix it . Well since a comparible vehicle is going to cost every bit of 3500.00, I guess I'll have to go to the savings and the guy I contract to and take out a loan this afternoon. You knoe the real problem with this picture is this, the Van would only bring around 900.00. Ed Shaver

  7. O K , look heres what ya do . First get a A M T Hogans Heros Jeep then look on the chrome tree. There you will see a LONE hubcap. Now kids its really a Plymouth hubcap thatdates to 1960 we used to swipe them back in the day as they wuz really kool . . Then you take a little molding rubber and cast three more then you drill the holes in them and paint them with Al Clad, there problem solved , I have to go back to work my self Ed Shaver

  8. Somewhere I remember seeing the Moon Eyes car with a Small block Chevrolet running a crank mounted blower .I also think I saw it somewhere in a not too distant issue of The Rodders Journal magazine. If I'm right, then the Boss Nova should have some of the needed parts you will need to comp[lete your build .The Chrysler engine was a repop accessory from A M T 's 1962 Buick Special wagon. The engine could be built with a crank mounted blower or with the blower mounted on the intake. Ed Shaver

  9. Jeff.I wish I could go with you. From the pictures I've seen over the years I can only guess as to just how vast the area really is.Mickey Tompson to me was one of my heroes I'ts a damm shame he had to go when and for that matter why. Did they ever find his killer? In closing when you go there humm a few bars from the song "Miles from Nowhere for me, itt'll make sense when ya get there. Ed Shaver

  10. I have to tell ya, the 1967 Impala would have to rank as my all time favorite automobile. Never before and probably after have I seen so much talent built into one car. Just look at the interior for instance. There were "No non sense round dials which were right in front of the driver. The quarter panels blended with the top with just enough crease to reinforce the two panels together meanwhile, the front end reminded us of the Rivera that preceded it. Its power plant had some of Detroit's brightest stars that had given us both the 327 and the new 427 "Big-Block" Even the four door variants looked like their two door counterparts. All that and the fact that the average mechanic could easily tune one up at the corner service station. Hey G M you want to know why I won't buy one of you're latest offerings? Well could it be maybe the fact that I can't buy something sense able like this anymore. Leave the dang blower off man keep the hood on it . Lowering this car makes it look to heavy for it's suspensioin Yes, by all means, keep the steelies, add narrow red wall tires. Think about it............................... Ed Shaver

  11. Scott. what you said about needing trophy packages is true. Problemis ever since I've bee back up here rom Dallas, people just don't talk to one another. The problem is really apparent here in Richmond which I affectionately call , "THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT".We here in the "Communistwealth" face east to our locally "appointed" heroes on the hill. Meanwhile, i see it everywhere I go and I get ALL over the state as I drive for a living The Chevrolet Club wont talk to the Packard club and the Ford club wont talk to the Chrysler club. Same goes for I P M S. . First I was a member Of Richmond's chapter for years. I wrote a collum in their newsletter called U S 59, usually cars built here up until Elvis passed away I would PLEAD for input. No one would tell me what they wanted. Now they were quick to criticize . Hey I'd go to the meeting and there they were bashing U S kits and glorifying Japanese stuff. At the shows, I saw politicking like nobody's business going on . Yep I waqs a judge at the Old Dominion Open onetime, in 1999. I PROMISE YOU , IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. An unnamed "NameBrand" moddeler from Tidewater cussed me out after the show was about over cause his entry didn't win. I told him , I'm telling you and every one else I will not ever Judge again If I win , fine but I also want to win fair and square. By the way I'm the same person who does the service stations and the gasoline pumps too. Hey I hope yo0u do have nice show, dont know if i'll be there cause no one sends flyers to the local hobby shops here,hummmmmm.............................. Ed Shaver

  12. I have to agtee with several of the comments previously mentioned. The lowered all the way around wouldn't make the car look as though the suspension had broken. The idea of incorporating Thunderbird pieces is noteworthy In fact, why not incorporate the trim from a 1963 Pontiac Bonniville, It's just a thought as it would help to break up the "mass". You could make the trim by using Ever green styrene grooved sheet material. As for wheels, I remember that in the original issue of the 1934 Ford truck George Barris had designed a set of "Kustom" or Cadillac spinner hubcaps with Bullets added to the centers. I also recall an issue of A M T 's 53 Ford truck having something similar as well. Also , If you have a re-issue of the CJ -2 Jeep AKA Hogans Heros Jeep, look on the parts tree you will see one hubcap . It's in reality a 1960 Plymouth hubcap. If you were to make a rubber mold and cast four of them, they would look very attractive with a lowered Ford. Because they were available to the public.

  13. Hey folks Iv'e got a real problem on my hands, a 1-1 PROBLEM and a half!!!!!!! It seems like it would happen every three or so months, maybe longer. Any way its a Chrysler mini van II inherited from my Father who bought it new in 1997, JUst as it hit 100,000 thousand miles, it would act up. You would go to start the van, it would start of course but it would only run for about ten seconds if that long. The only way I could successfully get the van to run would be to wait at least an hour to try and re staert the motor Of course when I do that the van stars fine for the3 rest of the day. Now this won't happen for months!!!!!! It wouldn't be so bad except that I use this van for my work and I really don't have too much experience with vehicles built after Elvis Presley died. I feel like i'm going to have to sell this ride because no one seems to have a good answer. Ed Shaver

  14. Zeb, uh have to disagree with you. I knew Denny Hamlin when he was in school His mother and I worked briefly together at A A A Virginia then , his dad and I worked next door together for awhile Denny used to help me kepping my %3 Ford going. Yeah I know hes young and all that, but trust me he lives on the edge and thats whats going to make him a contender. Ed Shaver

  15. Jeff, when I used to go to Charlotte North Carolinia there were alwat folks who were selling som variation of Hemi valve covers. My Favorite shows were the two that were held at the Fairgrounds, Metrolinia to be exact the weather there in the winter can really bother ya as I suffer from arthritis real bad. It's a great show and I would always see models for sale thjere too. It was also where I could see Dennis Carpenter of Dennis Carpenter Ford Reproductions. his stuff might be expensive, but it always fits. I wish his shipping people would tighten up sometimes though . Ed Shaver

  16. Wait a minute folks you're showing a photograph of what looks to be an earlier 59 A B in a 32 Ford, youre also talking about the engine in the 1950 Ford F-1 which is an 8-BA they are really two distinct blocks . However there are some parts tha can be swaped. Still the heads will interchange even though the water outlets wont be in the same place. Remember to, that the late 8BA also uses adifferent timing cover along with a modern distributor. Ed Shaver
