Hi there LDO, It's plastic and about 1/24 scale. Regards, Robbo.

Hi again, my last post was the work in progress, taking a basic UK Mercedes Sprinter ambulance model and breaking it down into its component parts and rebuilding it, fitted with electronics for lights and siren. The UK model version is earlier than the current model being used by the SA Ambulance Service (cannot get the latest anywhere) , so some problems had to be addressed. The latest version is wider and the roof is lower. In this case, the higher roof was an advantage, as it gave a bit more room to fit the rotating beacon drive motor and its electronic speed control. The side windows and doors are designed, so as to appear as a continuous darkened window. The front doors and windows slope off more and give the vehicle a sleeker look. The livery paint job meant that 'artistic license' was taken for a compromise between the two versions. So here it is. The link to the PhotoBucket site is: http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...er%20Ambulance/ The site shows a video clip of the rotating beacons and flashing rear roof bar lights in operation. There are also a number of pictures showing the construction. I trust that you will find this of interest. Cheers, Robbo.

Thanks for the links Cris, the pics are great. I spent just on 30 years as a volunteer ambulance officer and was one of the first selected to be involved in Advanced Casualty Care training and operations in 1980. I finished up with the rank of corps superintendent, in charge of three ambulance centers/ divisions. The service was taken over by paid staff in the late 80s. My eldest son (also a Christopher) is a paramedic in charge of the Barossa region, about 100Ks from Adelaide, South Australia. That's where I obtained the pic of the latest Mercedes Sprinter ambulance. He gave me the model to work on, for my 70th birthday. He has a collection of die-cast ambulances from UK, USA and Europe. Plus a model of the Ford F150 ambulance (same as mine) complete with flashing lights and siren, which he built with my help on the electronics. I'll certainly be looking into the 'Scalefirehouse site' soon. Cheers and all the best from Robbo.

Hi there Chris, no, you are not alone. Do you have any pics? I've been building emergency vehicles for about 30 years. Ambulance, fire appliances, police cars, police bike and an old model rescue truck They all have flashing lights and most have sirens. I've also built the Star ship Enterprise NX-01 and a Boeing 747. Both have lights etc. If you are interested, I have included links to my PhotoBucket site, that has circuit diagrams used in the models, video clips of the models in operation, as well as construction still pics. The purpose of putting this info onto the site, is to share experience, for all to enhance their models and bring them to life. I trust that you will find these interesting. Cheers, Robbo. http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...nic%20Circuits/ http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...nic%20Circuits/ http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...ncy%20vehicles/ http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...20EMV%20models/ http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...ep%20Paramedic/ http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...NX-01/Emergency vehicles/Em Vehicles Operational/

Exactly the same without the emergency lights and siren in operation. Thanks to modern technology, it converts at the flick of a couple of switches. Cheers and thanks for the comments, Robbo.

Hi James, welcome to the forum from down under in Australia. The work is of an great standard, especially the rust effects. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Robbo.

Hi all you constructors, especially those who do those excellent scratch builds. The paint jobs, almost make me envious. However, I do know my limitations at 70yrs of age. I've taken a basic 1:18 scale British Mercedes Sprinter ambulance and stripped it down to its component parts and modified some parts to accommodate the electronics (electronic siren and flashing lights) also I have built twin revolving lights that require quite a bit of space for the drive motor and electronic speed control circuit. The actual revolving lamps with reflectors, protrude through the cabin roof and fit into a modified red/blue light bar. So far this part of the model works quite well. The vehicle has head lamps, tail lights, front flashing lights, front and rear roof light bars. The aim is to repaint the model in the South Australian ambulance livery, as used on their Mercedes Sprinters, as per the last attached picture. Unfortunately, I had to shelve the project for a couple of months, but am now back on the job. Cheers, Robbo.

Hi there Benzo, Yes, you are correct, I'm in Fairview Park adjoining TTG. I'm currently working on small rotating beacons. Have one on a 1:18 scale fire appliance, but its rather large compared with what I want to get down to. The first prototype is almost ready to go. Cheers, Robbo.

Well, I'm 70 tomorrow the 6th. Sunday in Australia. Robbo.

Hi there just a doodz, check out my response to ajulia for the links to check out the models in action. I'm impressed with this site and the number of guys who are into sharing their craft with others. Cheers, Robbo.

Hello ajulia, the electronics do not come with the kit, they are all my own development. I have pics of construction and video clips showing operation. Circuit diagrams are also posted. Some models are plastic kit builds with my own adaptions and body mods, while others are completed diecast models, stripped down to bare parts, modified to take the electronics. Clear epoxy resin is the go for securing Leds for head and tail lights etc in place. If you are interested, the links to my PhotoBucket site are: Whole site - http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/Robbo2008_70/ Emergency vehicles - http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...ncy%20vehicles/ Model electronic circuits - http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...nic%20Circuits/ More circuits - http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...nic%20Circuits/ New EMV models - http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...20EMV%20models/ Model Auto Circuits - http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...uto%20Circuits/ Soldering guide - http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/solder.htm As I'm retired at 70 yrs, I want to pass on my expertise to others who enjoy modelling. I have always thought that bringing models 'to life' is the way to go. For those who may find the electronics a little daunting, I recommend that you enlist the help of friends that are into electronics as a hobby. It is very rewarding to share. I trust that this helps you, cheers, Robbo.

This is my latest project, completed two weeks ago. Only joined the forum this week. Painted in the South Australian Ambulance Service colours. They say that if it aint broke, then don't fix it. If it is, only two items are required. If it's tight, WD40 and if it's loose, Duct tape. Robbo. [attachment 2204:IMG_2700.JPG]

Well the way petrol prices are heading, we will all be pushing. Robbo.

Hi zebm1, thanks for the welcome. I have just completed the circuits for the head/tail lights and for turning indicators/4 way hazard lights. I have just finished posting them to my PhotoBucket site. The link is: http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...uto%20Circuits/ If you have any queries ref soldering and components, try this site: http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/solder.htm My main site links have been added to my original post. Cheers, Robbo.

Hi there MrObsessive. Thanks for the welcolme. Yes I do have video clips of the models working and pictures of the models under costruction. I'ts a great passtime. You do not have to be ecentric to build these models, but it certainly helps. The links to the pictures & video clips, have now been added to my original post. Your model looks very professional, my problem is doing a good paint job, I think that these old battle scarred hands need reconditioning. Power windows would be a challenge, especially in the 1:18 / 1:24 scale. The only motorised device that I've tackled, was constructing a rotary red beacon for one of my early model projects, a Mercedes fire truck. Still works, many years later. I bought a model stretch limo, whilst in the USA and have fitted it up with interior lights that are activated when the doors are opened, as well as a trunk light, activated when the trunk is opened. All the best, Robbo.

Hello all, I am new to this forum. I am a 70Yr old pensioner based in a suburb of Adelaide South Australia. I have been building models for the past 40 years or so. As an ex volunteer ambulance officer, my primary interest is building emergency vehicles (Ambulance, Police & Fire) complete with head and tail lights, flashing lights, turning indicators in some, as well as electronic sirens. I have also built the Star Trek Enterprise NX-01 with lighting and sound effects and a Boeing 747 with interior lighting, navigation lights etc. Are there any others in the car modelling world who also bring their models to life, with electronics? If so, I have numerous circuits to make available to you. My latest models, completed last month are: Chevrolet Impala police car, Jeep Grand Cherokee Off Road Paramedic response unit. Cheers, Robbo. Thanks all for the welcome and interest. I have pictures and video clips, as well as circuits available on my Photobucket site. The following are the links: Whole site http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/Robbo2008_70/ Emergency vehicles http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...ncy%20vehicles/ Model electronic circuits http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...nic%20Circuits/ More circuits http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...nic%20Circuits/ New EMV models http://s254.photobucket.com/albums/hh108/R...20EMV%20models/ I trust that you will find them of interest. I will do the circuit diagram of the turning indicators and 4 way flashers soon and post them. Cheers, Robbo.
