Im with Bill the Dynotron is awsome stuff . its fast drying easy sanding and enoughf putty to last years Ive got a tub of the stuff thats over three years old and still works great just be sure the lids on tight ! any car products place has it O'riellys, Autozone , Pepboys Napa's ... My huge 42 once container ran a little under $15 and the best way is to skim coat a little at a time , a little goes along ways ... its best to wear a resperator while sanding its very bad for the lungs to breath. you can wet sand it to keep the dust down a little and Im sure the fumes are bad for the brain cells Bud Ellis Kustoms

Paint rules from the ...."old school"
kustoms replied to just_a_doodz's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Painting is not an excact science It takes some experimenting, there are alot of things to consider Ie type of paint, humidity, how thick our how thin you applie the product and most importantly prep work, all the paint in the world will not make shabbie body work look good. after you go over the body loooking for flaws mold lines sink marks and all you need to wash your model with a dishwashing soap to remove all the exesse mold releace agents the kit may have on it, then you will need to aply a good primer I personly have had good luck with Dupli - color brand sandible primer it comes in many colors grey, red, black or white, I use it right out of the spray can you can use this with laquars or enamles. It real important to spray lightly at first, I mean just a dusting, you will want to build up the coats a little at a time . alow bout ten minuets between coats Now dont let me scare you when i say after about 6 light coats of primer you sure have a completly painted , solid color , coverd model, ok let this thing set for a week the look it over for any flaw that still show if your luckyyou wont find any but most likly there will be a few, you can take some fine sandpaper and gentaly sand the flaws out or if its real bad you need to use some putty, seems like im wrightin a book here hahahah there are differant types of putty out there use a two part polyester glazing putty for full size cars you can get it at you auto motive jobber , spead some on a palette mix in the hardner and aplie it in thin coats let it dry in about 30 min then sand it smooth lookfor flaws again if any are found mix up some more putty sand and prime over and over till its gone Now your ready for the color clean your model again with dishwashing soap and DO NOT Touch it you dont want oil from your skin on the surface you can make paint stand out of most anything a bent coat hanger or you can even tape it too the top of a spray can. again spray ery light dust coatings I usally start underneeth to cover all the undersides and fender wells first the flip it and spay the sides and finish with the top, hood and trunk after 4-5 coats of color set it aside dry another week and to protect the finish you can aplie some clear about three coats will do let this dry another week as an option you may wax you model do not use a harsh rubbing compound it will harm all your work there are several waxes out there I like to use Mcgwiers brand but the brand you choose is up too you.. If you take your time you can have a great looking finish and dont be affraid to mess a few up somtimes it can go on really smooth and other time it doesnt step back take a breath and try it again Rome wasnt painted in a day ! Great job on your piant I really like the color choice But I want you to know that words really cant describe how much insperation you give us all with you great modeling skills. with pictures and words that help make us think and dream of pushing the envlope a little futher. you even let us know the down sides of things when they dont go as expected and you still stick with it . I think it gives us hope that whatever we build or how ever we build it if we try we can build just about anything we want Thank you Bill for all that you do for our hobbie you inspire us all Bud Ellis Kustoms

kustoms replied to dryvr12's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Super detailed revell 1955 chevy hard top, I wanna pull all the stops on this one Ive spent over 3 months collecting referance material and parts now its time to build stay tuned its gonna be along ride............. Bud Ellis Kustoms -
Heres what im working on now , " Surgeons Warning" smoking is great for model car building,,, I found that the foil in my pack of cigarettes looks alot like the dash board of a 55 chevy bel-air so very carfully I trimed it to fit. I first ground off the original knobs with my dremle very carfully . then I super glued the foil trim over the dash and then I used some phot-etched knobs and added the kit decals .unfortionatly I destroyed the gauge decal Ill photo reduce one soon and it will look alot better. Its amazing what you can use for model building if you just look around you youll be amaized. Bud Ellis Kustoms

This was a quick build that I had a blast building. I cut the top off with a dremel made new top out of tissue paper and paper clips, dremeled out all the rusted rockers , and put a few dents here and there, 13 coats of Rust all over flat black primer greased up the moter with flat black paint and Vasileen hahahah its still wet! miss matched tires from the parts box, photo - etched grill in the front with birds nest made form my beard wiskers, and the interior seat wrapped in tissue with real spring poking up through the drivers side for a real roughf ride and of course its got "junk in the trunk" this was a really fun build and the best thing about it was the more I messed it up the better it looked enjoy ! Thanks for the warm welcome guys Im gonna like it here. Like I mentioned in my first post I like all kinds of stuff I guess my favs are kustoms of the late 50's and early 60's Barris ,Starbird, Gene Winfield, Joe Bailon, Dave Stucky the list goes on and on alot of my models arnt finished yet and alot I still wanna build I have tons of refrance and way too many kits Ive been building and collecting for over 30 years If Ive got a good pic of somthing I can usally make it. I've dabbled with resin casting one off parts, Im gonna make a vacuform machine soon and I paint with an airbrush primarly, urathanes, laquars and enamels , not sold on aqurilics though Im 40 years old live in Kansas City Mo, I just bought a full size 1930 model A its gonna stay original for awhile, My wife and I dont go out much so I spend most of my evinings building models. The project Im working on now is a factory stock 55 chevy hardtop by Revell. This will be built as if it were just coming off the assemblie line all shiny and new with as many options I can put on it . Ive spent the last 3 months collecting parts and referance picsI have over 300 pics to build from ! I still dont know what color im gonna paint it but it will be a two tone all the doors will open and it will be built like the real thing from the chasis up, factory fresh . Hope to post some pics soon but be patiant this will be a long build details take time hahahahah.... Agian its great being here and seeing all the great insperational model building from all of you. thanks for letting me be part of it. Bud Ellis Kustoms
