  1. FM3 Panther Pink/Moulin Rouge was a factory 1970 1/2 color, introduced around February of 1970.  At that point in the 1970 model year the muscle car market was tanking big time, so dealers did not order much fresh factory production with the new mid-year features, which is one of the reasons these were so rare when new.

FM3 was only available as a regular production order for the remainder of the 1970 model year only.  It was listed as an option for all A, B, and E-body Mopars, so that includes Dodge Darts, Coronets, Chargers, and Plymouth Dusters, Satellite/Road Runner/GTX's, and Barracuda/'cuda.

As mentioned elsewhere in this this thread there were just a few factory-produced 1971 Mopars that were special ordered with FM3 paint; these are pretty well documented by now to the point that if you wanted to paint a 1971 Mopar muscle car in Panther Pink, go ahead and do so and say that it could have been built in 1/1 scale using the same special order process.

By the way, years ago I fully documented the factory correct applications of all those "Muscle Era" special paint colors from Ford, GM, AMC, and of course the Chrysler High Impact paint line; it is available as a downloadable .pdf for a minimal price.  If any of you are interested, PM me and I will send you the link to order it

Yeah, as luck would have it just after posting that while looking up images for the '70 Charger to freshen my memory (I sure seem to be doing a lot of that lately) I came across three different cars in this color. In fact one appears to be the one used for making this kit. It's identical except for the fact it doesn't have the "Bumble Bee" stripe and instead has some strange white and black pinstripes that run front to back and also along the bottom demarcation line.

  2. The Plum Crazy and Hemi Orange pre painted kits from Revell WERE painted the individual colors, and the Foose Challenger was molded in the lime green pearl color with the black being painted, with a decal for the separation and trim stripes. If you wanted to make a proper version of the Foose car you'll need the wheels from the Foose '67 Charger kit, and repaint the green on the body in a pearl yellow.

  3. I know that the Chargers were available with the high impact colors, and I remember a couple of Plum Crazy ones that really stick out in my memory, but try as I might I just don't remember ever seeing one in Panther Pink, not saying that they weren't out there, BUT I never saw one. And I'm pretty sure that something as big as the Charger in Panther Pink would surely stick out in my memory. Saw some of the Challengers in it, and they weren't bad, even saw a local '70 El Camino that was painted in Panther Pink just after it was purchased. It belonged to a local sign painter and it DID draw attention to his business.

  4. Yeah, it's about time to have this one back!

It'd be even better if it came with the "California Sunshine" kit that California Stepsides offered for the 1:1 version. For those who might not know what that was, it was a bolt on fibreglass kit that made it possible to put monster N-50 x 15 tires on the rear with plenty of clearance, with corresponding extra width in the front. It kinda resembled the old Can-Am styling cues.

  5. Issue 204 landed on my doorstep (well, at the mailbox anyway) and it's been worth the wait. There's plenty of content, excellent new products reviews, it looks like Gregg is going to be busy with ALL those new things to play with. The kit reviews, and coverage of the usual things are as good as ever. I really liked the ideas on the A roadster, even have my favorite picked out. The tribute to Harry was especially touching, along with the inclusion of his final (?) article.

Now I'm looking forward to issue 205. Thanks to Gregg and his excellent staff for hanging in and getting the issues (pun intended)taken care of.

  6. The Meteor had a 22 foot wingspan in reality, so if it's in about the same scale as the Lindberg GeeBee, the kit wingspan will be around 10 1/8".

I'll be very interested to know, as I've been looking at getting one also.

I'll try to drag it back out tomorrow and give it a quick check. I'll let you know what it measures out to, thanks for the information.

  7. Picked up one of the Lindberg releases of the Laird Turner-Meteor to go with the Gee Bee R-1 from them I picked up last year. I know that the Gee Bee says it's 1/32nd scale but it checks out closer to 1/25-1/26th scale, just hope that the Laird is the same thing. I've always been a fan of the '30s racers, especially the Gee Bee's I've got every model of the Gee Bee that was ever released, multiples of the Williams Brothers kits, and have ALL the single engine 1/32 nd scale racers that they have made. Now if I can just get inspired and start building them.

  8. Richard, thanks for the info about the C6! Some pics I have show the trans black, some a steel/aluminum color. I have a lot of pics of the Shelby's underside, but not good pics of the front end/trans area. They mostly focus on the rear end since the car does have and IRS setup.

As far as the Thermactor pump, pics I have of the engine bay definitely show the pump on the passenger side of the engine.

It's also showing the ports for the system as you mentioned. I don't know when the car was restored, but this is pretty much as the car appears today-------that's what I'm shooting for.

I thought emission systems such as those were put in Fords in California sometime in the mid '60's (1965-66 timeframe). It could have been something that was rolled out progressively? I don't know.

As far as Photobucket, FORGET THEM! :D

They're not worth dealing with any longer. You can post your pic directly from your PC here if you'd like. Much more user friendly than PB! Before I get too far on the engine, I'll repaint most of the trans as I have plenty of aluminum paint------shouldn't be a problem over the acrylic black. ;)

California put the requirements for the air pumps in effect starting in the 1966 model year, but for some strange reason they weren't required on what was deemed higher performance competition based engines in the early years, it was strange seeing the Nickey 427 single four barrel engines with an air pump, but the two four version with the aluminum intake setup didn't have the air pump. Must have been a nightmare to enforce when people started doing engine changes.

  9. Still off topic, BUT what I guess I should have said was that when my first APPLICATION for membership arrived it said that I was eligible as soon as I turned 50 years of age, even though I didn't actually join until I turned 54. But I still think this getting old is getting old and is highly overrated, no matter how old I get, I REFUSE to grow up.

  10. At 54, I'm one year away from AARP territory and I have the Junk Mail Flyers from AARP to prove it. They are up to about one flyer every three weeks.

On the Other Hand, still no pics from Revell? I hope they don't drag out the wait until August. Round2 hasn't posted anything to the Collector Model site since June 29th.

In today's online world anything less than a once a week update is just really slow.

? Did they change their minimum age?? When I first got my "junk ads" it was fifty years of age, but that WAS 16 years ago. ??

  11. I think their marketing strategy is reissue kits they think would boost sales and revenue, but many of us have these old regurgitated kits that are nothing new and asking crazy prices that newly tooled kits are getting, ridiculous! I get it with the new Camaro, which is a nice kit. But how many times are they going to repackage the same old stuff that many of us do not want, their plan can back fire with loads of these kits sitting in a warehouse, while that wasted cost could be allocated to at least one new tool.I just wish they would invest in new tools or at least modified tools for new versions!

Everyone gripes about reissues that everyone already has. What is important to remember is there are newer younger builders that have never seen any of these kits so we're keeping new builders (something we REALLY need if our hobby is going to survive) so instead of complaining about how many of these you already have, point out the reasons you bought the original for the new guys that haven't seen one yet. Make the hobby sound like it's fun to see these again.

  12. I can imagine grafting an AMT '51 Chevy Bel Air hardtop roof to do a custom Coupe de Ville or a '51 Chevy Fleetline fastback roof...

Why not just use the Leadstone Custom "Chevy" (?) Fastback from Jimmy Flintstone that's supposedly based on Cadzilla? This chassis and running gear along with a couple of interior mods should make a fairly nice semi-clone.

  13. Did anyone else catch the "oopsie" on the instructions? One bucket seat is labeled part #74, and the other one part #10? Don't spend all day trying to figure out why part #74 doesn't look right, on the parts tree they're both #10.

  14. Bill, have you thought of using the H brass material and making guides for the door glass that go top to bottom in the door and by using sort of leg shapes on the ends of the "glass" (or a lower channel the glass would sit in like on a lot of 1:1 cars) and let the pin on the arm slide in a slot on the bottom of the glass holder? Like I mentioned, there are a lot of full size cars that don't even have the vent window for a guide that use a setup basically like this. The second generation Camaro comes to mind right away., by the way, love the subject matter.

  15. #774-A Then convert the chopped top to stock height and add a back window to have a running start on a '51 Victoria!

For that just "borrow" the roof off the Lindberg/Round2 '53 Ford Hardtop kit. With a little surgery to the front using the '49 roof it should be doable.

  16. Ouch! 1970 when I finally 'convinced' the Army that we would both be happier if I was a civilian again.

    Let's see

    1949 Ford

    1949 Mercury

    1949...can't think of anything else.

    I like 1909 better anyway.

Wouldn't mind a new 1953 Chevy though. Is the reissue going to be the really old, not very good Revell (or did they do that only as a 54, don't remember for sure) or the still not so accurate and 1/24 Monogram?

Don't feel so left out, there's even less for 1950. Unless you want to count the Chevrolet 3100  kit, and that (shudder) is a truck! ??

  17.

I'll help you out with saving the planet too. BUT I also believe our youth need to challenge their minds and learn new things, and increase their reading skills so if you will send all of those diabolical means of destruction I personally will let kids read me the instructions while I keep them safe on the other side of the glass while watching me follow their directions and while building these death machines will point out and explain the different parts and pieces of an automobile or aircraft.

I'll even send you photos of the progress we're making and of the finished models.???

  18. Went in to my favorite hobby shop Friday to pick up my new suburban and was surprised to see a 30% closeout sale sign in the window and couldn't figure out what line they were dropping even though the local R/C race track had closed. Got my kit and told them I wanted to put a hold on the Wagon Rod, and the Eldo Rod kits when they arrived and got the shock of my life. The young guy helping behind the counter said "since we're closing the doors we're not taking any orders period" my wife was talking to the owner Mark and said "oh no!, when do you plan on closing"? And he told her they will be out by the 22nd of July. We discussed what the problem was and how internet sales were killing the local brick and mortar stores, and he said he didn't really think that was it. He said he could understand a slow down in some weather conditions, but a 50% drop in sales in a two week period wasn't the internet, and when weather turned great and sales kept falling he said it had to be people were just afraid of what the economy was going to do and he thought maybe some were just waiting to see what was going to happen. But he said he didn't have the extra money to pour into his business to wait for an improvement. And with the news that there is going to be a Hobby Lobby opening soon that might effect the plastics part of the business. I doubt it and know it won't do me any good because I won't walk into a Hobby Lobby even to cool off in the heat, I'm not a fan of them and their beating their chests about employees rights to medical care and how it offends their religious beliefs. BUT that's a different story.

We're really going to miss Mark and his family at All Around R/C and Hobbies and wish them well in their future interests, it's been a good run and they're great people. We really don't need to keep losing the local hobby shop locations, it's just nice to be able to get what you want today, and if there's a problem you have someone to talk to and get answers from. ?

  19. Yep....project #773........

#774 the resin repop of the chopped hardtop from the AMT '50 Ford convertible.  To bad it hasn't been in the kit since the second release, but it would be perfect for that chopped windshield frame that's already there. (At least I think it would) ??
