there are two main things that i would suggest the first is paint this will take a lot of time trial and error but the more you practice the better you get take a moment to consider what type of motor you want in this build is it a brand spanking new mill? is it a mill build with the sole purpose of putting out large horsepower numbers is it a engine in a workhorse that is in the triple digits and leaking round the seals ? once you have this figured out start looking at pictures of engines that are in the same category as what you are building and try to get a feel for the shades colours used in a brand new car the heads will look different then in a race car or a workhorse a race engine will be clean, very clean a workhorse might have some grime or rust on it try to replicate that with paint and washes and if you want to go really crazy, slap on some BMF to replicate polished alluminum on plenums or intake tubes the second thing is wiring even adding just a distributor and plugwires will look so much more realistic i generally build mine own out of styrene and beading wire but that is mainly because i am cheap you can get prewired aluminum for about 10 bucks (i think) at most LHSs or even on ebay those are the two things i would start with

i didnt reply to it because i didnt want to leave any negative criticism so dont take this the wrogn but im just not a fan of the paint job i think (personally) it is too much black but i also think its your car and you should build it as you like it and making two tone paintjobs look good take practice so your on your way

it looks awesome i would definatly keep the DOCH hemi so far my only suggestion is to mold in the bumpers that front especialy has much to large a body gaps particularly for a pro street where one might expect the entire front clip to be all fiberglass
-
dont forget to remove the bumpstrip from the driver side door thats how all the copcars here look like too has anyone come up with a emergency vehicle to support all these cop cars ? maybe something along the lines of this ?
-
nice job on both the completed builds i stopped in at the hobby lobby today to get some paint the chassis is done save for the engine craddle put some paint on the seats aswell finally making some progress

diymirage replied to rronning84's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
in june of 2010 me and the wifey are going back home for a few weeks this will allow me to pick up the 3 pete's that are stashed somehwere at my parents house if you can identify the engines well see what we can hook up -
im sticking to my guns on this one

with a classic flamejob like that i would stay with the classic and put a black base coat on it
-
looking good i like where this is going as it sits right now it reminds me of a movie called "highwaymen" the bad guy drives a 72 eldorado while our hero drives a 68 barracuda with a hemi package as the movie progresses the outer sheetmetal of the car degresses and it looks like yours

replacement motor for 49 merc
diymirage replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
it all depends on what style you want for this build you can stick with the classis ford flathead engine you can use a ford 427 big block (blown or not) of (if you want to go with high performance) you can slap in the afore mentioned hemi but you can also make it look like a budget build and slap in a 6 cylinder or if you want to get real interesting and go for gasmileage shoot me a PM and we will work out a deal on a ford focus 2 liter 4 banger -

DAF 95 XF SSC
diymirage replied to diymirage's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
where are you located marc ? none of those trucks are very common in the US and that where the majority of our members are from so im just curious one thing that really annoys me with this unibody cheap trick is that it makes it very hard to paint and detail things i guess the only brightside to it is that i sitll got this kit for about 1/3 the price of a revell but it does show in the quality -
DAF 95 XF SSC
diymirage replied to diymirage's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
well as i suspected i got the truck yesterday after a quick once over there were two parts broken in the truck aswell one of them is the fifthwheel track the other is one of the front fenders and here is my big gripe with this kit then frame is one modelded piece all the ladder sections the bottom of the engine (it is a curbside kit) the front fenders the fuel tank and a few more little details it is clear italeri kits are not in stride with the quality i have come to expect from revell at any rate i put a coat of primer down and then painted both frames i airbrushed a coat of bleu on but im not happy with the results (hence the lack of pictures) so tomorrow i will slap on a new coat of bleu -
the way the front wheels fit right now would only work on a drag car where turning is not an option if you are looking to build a realistic car however...i would go with a front tire that is less wide or find a way to narrow the track
