  1. Yea, Yea, Yea... I know, I know... But the jacket with the long sleeves is just sooooooo comfy!!!! Actually, I hadn't taken any meds... That was the problem! When I answered the post I had been sitting here at the computer desk for longer than I should have and my back was starting to hurt badly. I actually missed his name at the end of his post, and for that I sincerely apologize to Russell. I guess I've gotten too used to looking for everyone's names in their signature. -Scott H.
  2. A lawyer boarded an airplane in New Orleans with a box of frozen crabs and asked a blonde stewardess to take care of them for him. She took the box and promised to put it in the crew's refrigerator. He advised her that he was holding her personally responsible for them staying frozen, mentioning in a very haughty manner that he was a lawyer, and proceeded to rant at her about what would happen if she let them thaw out. Needless to say, she was annoyed by his behavior. Shortly before landing in New York , she used the intercom to announce to the entire cabin, "Would the gentleman who gave me the crabs in New Orleans, please raise your hand?" Not one hand went up... so she took them home and ate them. Two lessons here: 1. Lawyers aren't as smart as they think they are. 2. Blondes aren't as dumb as most folks think
  3. As you know I have been having issues with my lower back. Well....the results of my MRI are in and they ain't good. L4-5 is blown out, L3-4 is 3/4 blown out, and every disk below that is bulging. Needless to say, I'm not doing much at all here lately other than laying down or chilling, kicked back in my recliner. I'll know more after Aug 10th when I have an appmnt with a back surgeon. Just letting everyone know why I've been absent here lately and nothing has been done on my builds / projects, -Scott H.
  4. Hi guy, I have the Texaco decals that came with the other version of the kit. PM me if you're interested. As far as the kit goes, don't look for interior walls or the large sections of the back and right side walls. They're not included in the kit. Take a look at my Oasis thread. I used the Texaco Kit as a starting point in it and used plastic signs from WalMart to fill in the missing parts of the side walls. DEFINITELY talk to Ed about the gas station! He has a ton of info about them and has helped me more than once on my building. He also is someone that can steer you in the right direction for reference info to accurately detail your station. -Scott H. P.S. Could you please add you name in your signature? I find it a ton easier to help someone when they have an actual name instead of a handle.
  5. Can you tell me what ones they are? I've had firefox for a while now and none of the 3 virus / spyware checkers I have running on my machine has found any on my computer and I would like to check for them. -Scott H.
  6. For the cooler, check out Scale Equipment Limited and other sites dealing with aftermarket diorama details. I had the link below bookmarked for reference purposes, but the google search below that will turn up a few places to look at. Cooler Link Google search for Resin Diorama Accessories I have also found them on eBay from time to time. Just go to the model section and do a search for Resin. You'll have to dig through all the adds to find what you're looking for though. As for the Boogie Boards, that's going to be something you're going to have to make for yourself more than likely. Check out my Oasis thread in the Diorama section. There is a short section on building items using plastic signs from WalMart and Lowes. That might help some as an idea for building the boards even though I built games in my thread. With something as basic as a boogie board, it shouldn't be too hard to duplicate. Hope this helps, -Scott H.
  7. George, I got this off of the Drag City web page: "Site may be temporarily down until I can figure out how to make it Internet Explorer 8 friendly." You may have a wait on your hands until you get to see the page. If you have Mozilla Firefox, it works perfectly with 99% of the web pages I have gone to so far. I've stopped using Internet Exploder completely because of all the B.S. Microsoft causes every time they update the program. -Scott H.
  8. Dynacorn International. They also make early Camaro bodies. I've been looking at them for years and waiting for my lottery ticket to come up so I can afford one... http://www.dynacorn.com/site/04home/home.html As far as the shell on a rotisserie, the easiest body I can think of for both ease of construction and finding reference pictures would be the Revell 1957 Chevrolet with the opening hood, doors, and trunk. 3/4 of the work is done already for you since the jambs are already there from the start. All you would really have to do is cut off the fenders and finish the firewall. Hope this helps, -Scott H.
  9. First off, welcome to the site! My next suggestion is to look at the last part of my signature and burn it to memory. It's the handiest piece of advice you will ever get! Now I'll submit a couple of questions for you to think about: 1. Are there any hobby shops in your area? 2. Have you set up a dedicated work area? 3. Is your work area in an open, ventilated area? Here's why I'm posing those questions... 1. Hobby shops are one of the better places to get supplies from once you start getting deeper into building models. They are also a good place to find out if there is a modeling club, group, or organization in your area. If there is one, I highly suggest getting in contact with them and going to one of their meetings. Having local friends in the hobby is a good thing when you run into a mental block on what to do or just want to hang out and talk. You can usually get hands on information and helpful hints from the meetings and newsletters too. 2. A dedicated work area saves you from constantly packing and unpacking your model and supplies and possibly losing or breaking parts in the process. If you have to use a temporary area for building, I highly suggest getting a plastic tote large enough to hold both the model you are working on and your supplies. A good plastic drop cloth of some sort will keep from having to clean up paint and glue from the kitchen table (and the resulting visit to the dog house when the significant other finds out about it too ). 3. The better the air flow in your work area the better! Paint and glue fumes can get to you quicker than you think! Right now I suggest getting the following as far as your tools go: A Sprue Cutter (Used for cutting off the parts from the sprue - DON'T JUST TWIST THE PARTS OFF!!! It usually causes the parts to have damage to the area where it was attached that will need fixing later when you twist them off. A Hobby store is the best to find this one). Finger Nail Sanding Sticks (Used for sanding down the parts where they were attached from the sprues. Get different grits if you can find them - check the beauty section of Wal Mart or a similar store as they're cheaper there than a Hobby Store). A GOOD Hobby Knife that has replaceable blades (The cheaper ones can be a literal pain when they bend, break, or slip and you cut something you don't want to!! This can be found in the Craft Section of Wal Mart, the Drafting Section of an Office Supply Store, or a Hobby Store). Several sizes of quality hobby paint brushes (The cheaper ones tend to leave hairs in the paint when you least expect it or need the details to be perfect. The smaller the size of the brush, the easier it will be to paint the small details on engines and interiors). That should get you started, but you'll more than likely find other tools that you will be wanting and / or needing as your skills progress. My last honest suggestion is to remember that GOOGLE is your friend! Just do a search for the name of the car with Pictures after it and usually it'll have places where you can see a view of the area you are working on for reference. It might take a little bit of looking around to find what you're needing, but 9 times out of 10 there is one out there somewhere. I hope this helps answer your question some, -Scott H.
  10. I hope everyone has a Happy and SAFE 4th! -Scott H.
  11. Guys, As some of you already know I have been having problems with my lower back. Well, after getting shoved into a MRI machine I now have the reason why I can't move, much less sit at this computer on some days. Actually, I was flat on my back for the most part from Sunday a week ago until yesterday because of it. My L1-2 and 3-4 disks are bulging and the L4-5 disk is ruptured! I guess that explains why part of my left leg has been going numb and I have been bent out of shape (my head lines up with my left leg instead of being centered - some days are worse than others) for a couple of months now along with tremors in my hands. Needless to say I have an appointment scheduled with a back specialist and will more than likely be going under the knife soon after... Just letting everyone know why I have been M.I.A. more often than not here lately, -Scott H.
  12. One of the best quotes about a SAAB I ever heard comes from the movie "Crazy People" with Darryl Hannah and Dudley Moore... "They're not supposed to start EVERY time..." -Scott H.
  13. That sounds like a cool project! Is he making a 2 door phantom wagon or a 4 door wagon like came from the factory? I would love to see pictures of it if you can talk him into sharing his build with us, -Scott H.
  14. Guys, Once again I present for your viewing enjoyment crappy pictures from my cell phone because my regular camera is in North Carolina... Well, onward with the show. This is a long term Nova Drag Wagon project that I started tonight. I was looking at the body of the car as started wondering if they used the original 63 Nova Wagon as the basis for it so I dug mine out. After a quick comparison it was evident that they did and I got an idea. The drag body was designed as a funny car with no door lines but I didn't want to build it in that configuration, soooooo..... Out came the masking tape, the original 63 Nova Wagon body, a razor knife, and presto, I had a door template. The black sharpie lines were put on after I scribed the door lines so they would show up in the pictures after I removed the template. A little work with the back of the razor knife, since I have no idea where I put my panel scriber for safe keeping , and I have the beginnings of a door slammer Nova drag wagon! I have a ton of work to do to this one, so it's going to be a long term project for me with updates coming as I find or make the parts I'm going to be needing for it. With it being a Funny Car to begin with, it has no real interior but the original one from my 63 fits. I might make a mold of it and cast it up to modify for my needs. I'm also considering making a copy of the chassis to modify also. More to come (with better pictures hopefully) as it happens, -Scott H.
  15. Ok guys, Here's the pictures of the street machine 69 Nova I'm starting on... As you can tell, this one will NOT be even close to being a stock build. What I'm going for in this build is the type of street machine that could be cleaned up and entered in a show on the weekend if wanted. This about as far as I have gotten so far, but as soon as I get more done I'll update this. Sorry for the bad pictures, my good camera is in North Carolina right now so I had to use cell phone for these... -Scott H.
  16. Thanks for the replies, -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rob, I've looked at the photo etched details an I'm not sure they will work for what I'm wanting right now but I have bookmarked it for later ideas. Dave, I have the parts box loaded in another window right now and they have a bunch of stuff on their site! I know what I'm going to be doing for the next hour or so now... I actually have the D50 with the subs in my kit stash. Thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten completely about it!!! I'm going to have to check out the Caprice too, I think I still have the kit, but I'm not sure. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If anyone else has any other suggestions, please post them. I'm looking for a variety of items for the models and don't know exactly what I'm going to use in them yet. I'm kind of shopping around right now as it were. Thanks again, -Scott H.
  17. Guys, Who would you recommend for scale stereo equipment? What I'm looking for is speakers and monitors for a couple of projects including my diorama. I've found a couple of people selling the decals or printouts that look like speakers on eBay, but I'm wanting the actual 3D style. Thanks, -Scott H.
  18. If I were put in that situation I would: 1. Tell the sales person "She's your problem now!" and walk out. 2. NOT bail her out of jail. 3. Have her belongings packed (if any were at my residence) and waiting for her to pick up at the door when she gets out. 4. Get a court order making sure that she never comes in contact with me ever again along with a recommendation that she seeks mental help! -Scott H.
  19. After looking around since the Revell 1969 Nova kit was first released and not finding one, I was about to give up and just order one from the web. I decided to check Michaels one last time before ordering it since I was in the area anyway and they FINALLY had three on the shelf. I bought every one of them! Needless to say I have something new on the work bench to work on when I get frustrated with the diorama (which I'm still stalled on) and will be posting in progress pictures soon of a street machine version that I have already started doing some small paint work on. I have an idea for what to do with the other two, but they will have to wait for a while. Pics soon, I promise... -Scott H.
  20. My hardest and most involved to build model isn't one that is finished yet because it is the Diorama I'm working on right now. The link to what I have done so far is below. The Oasis Convenience Store in the Diorama section The building isn't the hard part as it's just 4 walls and some windows from the old MRC Texaco Gas Station kit that I modified to work for my needs. The hard part is finding and making all the little detail items in it! Before I started building the store, I thought it would be a piece of cake... THEN I started looking around the different stores I go into from time to time to see what I needed to add to my store and started wondering how I was going to make stuff like Candy Bars, Hot Dogs, Sodas, etc., etc. There are a couple of things that I have found online or in other kits I already owned, and Ed was kind enough to make an Ice Machine for the outside of the building for me, but for the most part I'm going to be making all the little details that I never thought about when I started the project. I like a good challenge once in a while and it's definitely been worth every second I have put into it! -Scott H.
  21. Although I'm not a fan of Donks personally, this looks like it's going to be an interesting project. I can't wait to see how it turns out. I do have a quick question though. Where did you come up with all the speakers and monitors that are sitting in the interior bucket? -Scott H.
  22. I've got to go with Model this time myself... -Scott H.
  23. Nick, From what I understand if it's a truck, be it a Semi, pick up, or even a van, this is the place for it. Post 'em and if it's in the wrong place, you can yell at me for tellin ya wrong (just not when I have a hang over... ) -Scott H.
  24. Dave, Sorry I missed this before now, but I too wish to offer my congratulations on both the model being selected for a cover shot during one of the most competitive eras of modeling and being reunited with the magazine it was in. Since recreating a cherished memory from the past would be difficult at best (the materials, your tools, etc. available to you now are completely different from back then), why not make a remake of the model but not an exact copy??? I personally would LOVE to see a Pink Leprechaun 2 come from your work bench! Don, I applaud your giving Dave the magazine so he can have a cherished memory once again! People like you are one of the reasons I stay active in the hobby and I thank you. -Scott H.
