  1. I am in the process of doing a giant sized Diorama for a county fair display its going to be a 1-25th scale half mile dirt oval race track and will take up almost a quarter of the floor of one of the fairgrounds display barns on the fairgrounds the American legion Post #24 ownes the fairgrounds and the race track and has joyfully agreed to let me do the diorama at no charge! Heres what I am planning and tell me what you all think! The track will be boarded on the back stretch with trees and a board fence, the tall fence will be plastered with sponsors placards with a sign in the center of the back strtch with this sign WELCOME TO THE NEWBERRY FAIRGROUNDS SPEEDWAY RACING EVERY SAT NIGHT BEGINNING AT 8 Then the grandstands on the front stretch the pits in the infield with a full field of Late Model Sportsmen lined up on the starting grid for the beginning of their main event Also in the infield will be the trailers and haulers for the competitors and some pickup trucks along with a few passenger cars but the main thing I am concentrating on aer the "Skeeeter" cars on the track, I hope to have a full starting grid on the track as though in the middle of the main event. The flagman will be waving a yellow flag because right in front of the flagstand a skeeter will be in the process of flipping, the wheels off and flying the body smashed the motor hanging out of the engine compartment and the car in the air (I will use one of the old destroyed EMS cars for the wreck) I already have a concession stand, a combo scorers booth/flag stand, tow truck, water truck, rest rooms, grill, picnic tables and a track security/ officials vehicle. Now I need a police car and an ambulance to complete the assemble. The track wont be a problen, what I need from my club brothers and sisters are pictures of some racers you have built to display at the diorama, proper credit will be given! lilsquirt
  2. Thanks for the memories Coming from a guy who drove one of those thing a ma jigs back in the early NASCAR years it brings back a load of memories GREAT JOB!!!!! You have giving me an Idea for the diorama that the Fairgroundsstaff has asked me to do! The American Legion Post 24 has always owned the racetrack and the fairgrounds! the guys at AMP24 found out that I loved to build cars that ran on the track through the years and has nicely asked me to do a memories thing for a display I asked them if I could use the entire center of half of the display building and they told me oSo in Sept of 09 I will have an entire half mile dirt track oval built with around 25 skeeter cars running the track (simulated) the Idea u gave me was to have the flagman waving a red flag as ont of the skeeters takes a wild flipping ride down the front sretch with wheels flying and parts strewn everywhere ! I have a combo flag stand scoring booth built along with a concession stand restrooms tow truck water truck and a lot of Late model sportsmen slab sides already built these will be on the line up grid in the pit area as though waiting to go on the track for their Main event Iwil also build trailors and haulers for all the cars, and if the good Lord willing have a few civilian cars parked in the infield JUst thought of something else I need I need an ambuilance and a police car where can I get a 1-24., 1-25 scale ambulane? this was my first race car lilsquirt
  3. Dave Really the models weren't nothing compaired as to what occured in the hospital before my shop was broken into! When I blew out my colon in ICU for the second time every doctor was called in to review my case and the diagnoises wasn't good at all, there was too much in my stomach cavity that had been Destroyed and They told my family that the odds were 99 to 1 that ai wouldn't pull through! I had died! Actually died right there in that ICU bed! however after traveling that road from which no traveler returns , I met ST. MICHAEL at the entrance to those golden gates! ST. MICHAEL looked at me and said "Larry, go home! you are not through on earth! We have other plans for you there!" I then put myself in the hands of the lord! I have never been much of a church goer but now with the help of my Baptist church and the members thereof I have stsrted a youth group called "Models for Christ"! the kids in the group each chose a model that they like, some cars, some boats, some planes, whatever they like, then with me and some church volenteers the kids build the models and paint them however they want! So far we have a dozen kids and most are from broken homes who was just roving the neighborhood, we have brought them back to God and off the streets Every wed night a new kid will walk in to the church rec hall , we show him (or her) which models we have on hand and the the kids eyes will light up and after a short prayer we Have snagged another one off the streets! , Remember that song? Another one bites the dust! well change it to another one for Jesus!!! lilsquirt
  4. I will tell yall that the police wouldn't touch the case! Why? because it wasn't a felony. I have worked all my life and am now retired from the newspaper businessand a part time rent a cop at Newberry College! Then I was well respected as a card carring police officer But now since my retirement no one notices me Everyone knows who broke into my shop but we cannot prove it! DAG BURN IT! Anyway I will post some of my rebuilds when I can get ahold of my daughter in law camera! hehehehehehehehehe see yall all later lilsquirt
  5. This happened a couple of months ago and I am just now getting my feet back under me! at one time I had about 150 builds stored on shelving for display in my hobby shop "LARRY'S RACING MUSEUM" most of the builds were early model super mods "Skeeters' the rest were scratch built LM sportsmen dirt racer, most replicas of cars that ran here on the Newberry Speedway Racecourse, During the latter part of June I had to be admittet into the hospital with a hole in my colon and while in ICU I coughed and blew my colon out I spent two months in ICU another 4 weeks in a hall room then another 4 weeks in a nursing home1 when I got home my family took me out to my shop and let me see the damage the cars had all been swept off the shelves and destroyed I was devastated but made up my mind (aftr crying my eyes out) to rebuild and rebuild I did and am still doing! what I am saying is this dont let things get you down if they do get back up and fight If I had given up I think that by just sitting around I would not be here today By the grace of GOD am still alive and kicking when all the doctors at the hospital had given me up for a dead man God kept me on earth !!!!!!!! KEEP YOUR SHOPS, SHEDS, HOMES, GARAGES, LOCKED!!!!!! lILSQUIRT
  6. I could not find a 1-25th scale truck that would half way work , so I bought a toy remote control ford pckup and trashed everything except the cab( I used the RC guts on another project I have on the bench) then I went out to Lowe's and puchased few on their quarter inch by quqrter inch by 36" lonf wooden rods and using a cigar box top constructed the bed,the boom telescopes for the pickup, HA I am attempting to build and entire track dio. to display at the upcoming county fair! Trying anyway! I want to have a field of Skeeter racers lined up on the track with LMS on the grid ready to began their main event! I have allready built a flagstand and a connession stand with the necessary rest room area, the dio will also includ a picnic area, complete with BBQ grill ( with spatchula, cooking fork and tongues all to scale) a picnic table and everything that one might see at a modern day race lilsquirt
  7. [attachme t=2886:scan0002.jpg]Hi Ya'll I am a newbie but I just have to show off some of my latest builds! These builds were done from the desaster I found when I returned from a long long stay in ICU and the nursing home. some one had broken into my hobby den (where I build and display my creations) and had almost destroyed every one of my racers! Picking through the debre I was able to salvage a few of the cars and haulers! thats what I build mostly trailors, haulers skeeters and slabside Late model sports men all dirt trackers! tell me what you think of them! Okay? peace lilsquirt
