  4. Hay Hay Hay SMART never thought of using a gasket silicon ----that might be just the thing!! and using 2 part epoxy------ the JB Weld should work! We use both the silicon and the weld on our raciing karts so why not on the models gonna try it Gonna try it Gonna try it Today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let yall (Southern For you all) know what happens! If I dont get back to you you will fondly remember me as the Guy who said Gonna try it Gonna try it Gonna try it lilsquirt
  5. I am in desperate need of wheels, Racing wheels to be exact. and I am wondering if what I have in mind will work ~~~~~~~~~~ there is a clay on the market that will harden when placed in the oven at a certain degree! I propose to press an old racing hub in the clay and let it harden for a few days instead of oven treating it A couple of days in the hot summer sun down here in South Carolina should be hot enough to do the trick. When the clay is hard I propose to subject the cast to a great deal of heat _ enough to melt the old rim leaving a wheel cast ( if I am lucky) when the cast is done I plan to use 2 part epoxy and fill the mold allowing it to dry then spray paint it with the desired color of paint I ought to be able to mold a few sets before the molds come apart will this plan work?? lilsquirt

  13. back in the fiftys I was a member of a model car club and we did compete! my great uncle owned a hardware store on main street and he came up with the Idea that ech member of the club exibit their favorite models in different establishments on main street. Uncle Ben would sponsor my models and some of the other merchants fell in line, quite a number of them was literally begging the members to chose their establishment to make a long story short the thing became an annual event and it got so huge that there was nobody in town to judge the models Uncle Ben and other members of the merchants association went to columbia and found some lawers and other merchants that would be willing to travel to Newberry to judge the builds the columbia people saw how we dd it and started their own shows and other towns joined in on the fun! The merchants association began to purchase trophies for the winners in each age group and class of cars I won a few local trophies and two state wide first places THOSE WERE THE DAYS! we soon got too old to build models our thoughts turned to dating and girls so after awhile we ceased showing our builds lilsquirt
  14. youall dosn't seem to understand my situation! I just spent over half a year in the hospital and another few months in a nursing home with almost no ontact with the outside world concerning my hobby and I am still unable to drive due to my condition naturally I am behind times and very discouraged I am destitude with no insurance and after working at a newspsper office for most of my life I was forcefully retired when the newspaper was bought out and left me with no retirement my son chiped in and paid off the house (Thank the Lord) Lilsquirt
  15. sorry but wally world here in Newberry is the ONLY place to shop!! sure we have a downtown area but it is mostly devoted to antique shops Newberry has no place for young people to go or shop I am a antique myself but I can see why when the youngsters get old enough to get out of town they run as fast as they can away from here as a retired security guard at newberry college the biggest concern for the kids was what is ther to do in this hick town?? I would always tell them to go to Laurens or into Columbia we have nothing here to keep the younger generationand when I say nothing I meam nothing!!! Lilsquirt
  16. I use to buy my models and paint from wallyworld but now I cannot even find a kit of any kind there! this has been going on for quite some time and after finally getting up my nerve I asked the toy manager about it! He told me that they do not handle models any more It seems that the management at the so called "store to end all stores" have done just that~~~ where ever you see a wally world you can bet your boots that you wont see a K Mart around or even a hobby shop or any other kind of small store I can remember going downtown to roses five and dime when I was younger and buying an AMT model for a buck and a half sale price or 3 bucks full price! they have driven every small operation out of business so that the public has to pay the high prices that they now claim , before and during the process of killing all the compitation their prices were lower that anyone elses or at least competitive but now and little by little the prices are getting higher. I priced a few objects at wally world and while visiting another store (not wally world) the same objects were very low compaired to the price tags at ww talking about taking the public for a RIDE?? had to get that off my chest lilsquirt
  17. Hi guys Just finished this garage dio today and thought I would share it with yall the "tree" is a cut up nandina bush!! most of our racers were shade tree mechanics lilsquirt

  19. when I worked at the Newberry Observer I had an article that was published once a week about the early racing days of the little kid, the pit pest lilsquirt! The atricle was titled "Around the Oval" and in the article I would began by updating the readers about the recent activities at the Newberry Speedway' wrap ups, and recap the saturday nights race I would always end the article with a short eposide of my esrly beginning days of racing' every one would tell me , even people on the street that I did not know would tell me and others hoew they enjoyed reading about llsquirt would it be possible to do the same thing here but only short short storys and ending the story with a cliff hanger to continue the next week ? If it is against polocy let me know befor I start gathering my files if yall say no I understand Larry better known in my early days as that darn pit pest then later Lilsquirt!
  20. thanks for the tip Robert Dag Nab It !!! I am fairly new here and am still trying to navigate the site, I am an old fuddy duddy and am no puter wizard tho I try hard, there are some things that I miss I will check thet page out ASAP Larry lilsqurt
  21. This is a wonderful site !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However I think that a tutorial page would be very helpful! Everyone who has done a project could tell other club brother plastic heads how he or she had done the project! Such as making door hinges, wiring an engine etc! Not being critical of the site but it something I for one would lie to see here! lilsquirt Larry

  23. Cause I am a diehard 65 year old plastic head junkie! been building for over 30 years and now I build to preserve the memories of days gone by! building old style racers that has been lost to history, nobody remembers the olden days anymore I dont mean us! my builds , at my death, will be preserved in glass so that the younger generation can get a glimpse of the old dirt track racing past! my book will also be preserved! i am composing a one of a kind history book! not about NASCAR, nor the regular racers, the book I am weiting , with the help of many of my old racing buddys will be about the everyday racers the Saturday night warriors, the shadetree mechanics People that nobody has ever heard about, Alvin Neighbors, Jimmy Deason, WW temples Billy Dill Ronnie "The Hilside hustler", "The Sandman" Don Capps, "spiderman" Bill Morgan, "the Flying Scotchman"Billy Scott, and of course the likes of "The Flintstone Flyer' pilot Mike Duvall, and about the old pre sponsored races, ran in the corn fields of the south and ole outdated XRacer Larry "The Lilsquirt" Beard
