  1. LOL, Rob, I did not know DOCTOR CRANKY was brand name. I thought he was just a figment of my deranged imagination!
  2. Mike P, thank you for the support. Gregg chimed in at the beginning of this thread briefly, and I think what he recognized was a legitimate thread about a legitimate question, which as a "plea" to start a discussion on the possibility of having a RUST/WEATHER section. At no time was the question put as a demand. Again, my original intent was simply to get us talking about impending (positive and otherwise) changes that this forum can use, which is why Harry also jumped in with his suggested revisions. It's not ME trying to shove MY agenda down your throats. I treat you all as adults with the same respect you treat me, and that, my friend, is the beginning of a civil discourse on any topic or issue. Best, DC
  3. What kind of animals do you like? Do they influence you in any way shape or form as a model builder? I'm interested in this topic because I find that most of the time when I am building I am thinking of animals or the names of animals to call particular builds. But every once in a while I think of doing a build that's got some animal part in it., i.e., stinger, legs, wings, etc.. We all know that a lot of cars have been given names of horses, etc . . . but I am thinking in particular of how you've been influenced by animals in your builds. It would be wonderful to see what you've built thinking of animals or being influenced by them. Here's my example of a build I did last year thinking of one of my favorite insects: the scorpion. SHOW US YOURS, please.
  4. That's a heck of a radical chop, but it fits the build perfectly. Keep it going, it's looking real good . . .
  5. Jelly beans! That almost sounds like a challenge to get the Old Man to build something rusty and weathered!
  6. Jamie, we all start somewhere. Don't feel pressured to share pictures. Do so when you feel ready. Remember, no stress, no frets, no frustrations.
  7. James, your point is well taken, and you are right, we probably have discussed the issue to death, but I'm a bit concerned about these mercenary rascals who feel like they can just jump in and start trouble any time they like.. It sounds like some of them have been given the choice of not tuning in but they continue to pester those of us trying to have a legitimate conversation. I think Admin knows what they need to do. It's obvious to me (as I am sure it is to you too) that part of their tactic is to irritate and cause trouble so that people end up locking their topics.
  8. No, Mike Wheeler, not YOU, buddy. My topic was an answer to MikeMC about that "other" individual.
  9. MikeMC, I don't know what old Doctor Cranky has done to deserve such passionate attacks or ire when all I am trying to do is have a civil and constructive discussion. A couple of these folks keep following my posts (reminds me of the remora fish) and I wonder why they just don't exercise one of the most useful tools on this forum: IGNORE. I've said this countless times to several of these individuals: If you don't like the channel, change it. Doctor Cranky's not trying force you to either build his way or force you to like what he likes. Your personal attacks are not really going to stop Doctor Cranky and EYEGORE from having some fun and exercising their right to participate in their favorite hobby. Do yourselves a favor, please, and put Doctor Cranky on IGNORE. By doing this, he will not bother you ever again, promise. Also, I refuse to lock down this topic just because a few of these bottom feeders are ruining the discussion. I leave that decision to the Admin who are very well aware of these folks who don't really contribute much, but are a constant source of conflicts, show-downs, AND more personal attacks.
  10. I see what you mean, just have the page be a "list" of the subjects.
  11. Andy, your list is pretty streamlined, and I think part of the fun is to make some of these "click here" labels more inviting. I think that's the spirit behind some like "BIG BOYS" and "UNDER GLASS" as opposed to just saying something else.
  12. I like the second truck, and it looks perfect for the TZH CARAVAN! What movie did you say this is from?
  13. Here's my favorite of this whole batch, Donn:
  14. That's how we all got back into the hobby, chap. All it takes is for you to see something that triggers that old feeling of wanting to build again. Most of us have returned after a long hiatus because of real life responsibilities. But tell you what, once you get back in it and build and share here, you are going to have a hobby for a life time!
  15. Kevin, your point is well taken. I keep thinking the best way to visualize this is to think of one of those big filing cabinets and you are trying to keep everything labeled and organized so that you can readily find everything. But keep your enjoyment of the searching going. So you have a category, a sub category, and then the labels (titles of threads) for each item.
  16. Sure thing, and you should know that Donn Yost is a member of this forum and he often goes out of his way to answer questions about his methods, techniques, applications. Oh, and BTW, welcome to the forum. You are going to enjoy being here.
  17. Andy, there will always be people in the world who don't see things the way you do, and as you get older you realize that time is precious, and so you live and let live. You express your opinion and you try to do the best you can and that's all you can do. My old man always said NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED! This forum is a place where people come to exchange their love for building models, and the focus is (for the most part) on the hobby. That's the starting point for all of us. The rest, as they say, is opinion and conjecture, a matter of taste and interpretation. In short, and with any aspect of the creative process, you have to have pretty thick skin.
  18. Not to mention also that the foiling is immaculate.
  19. All right, folks, let me redirect here and get us back on track: Those of you who've been thinking about (to go back to Harry's list of revisions) the forum and how it could be made more smooth-running and efficient, this is a good chance to speak out.
  20. Stephen, these are Donn Yost's models that he paints, often spending weeks painting bodies and later assembling them. He has a couple of wonderful DVDs that explain his methods and he guarantees success. I've tried it and love it. If you are interested, you can find out more here: http://www.oldmansmodels.com/
  21. Neal, THANK YOU for sharing this. Great place for dio details, that's for sure. There's also lots of goodies at Scale Equipment LTD. LOL, I figured that out the second day this thread got going.
  22. Here are a few more!
  23. When I asked the Old Man the other day what he was working on, I got nothing but silence so I figured he'd drowned in a vat of gloss varnish, then yesterday the Blitzkrieg started, and so I am delighted to share how Mr. Donn Yost is rocking the house in 2012.
