Chris, I drilled them out. Took a while, but it looks better. I will paint the guitar last, I think, as the crowning last touch. We still have a ways to go. Spent the day spraying primer. -

Thanks, Jason. I am sanding down some parts and then it's primer time. -

David, it can be done, but the tires are so beautifully cast that I don't want to take any chance with them, other than sanding off their sheen and making them look a bit road weary. -

Thanks, James, well, I think the proper name for this one is going to be "The Gibson Bones Limited," and we'll see how it will turn out. Things are coming together quickly, including some of the main colors I am seeing: Black & Red with some cool graphics. -

Dr. Cranky replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I de-chromed all the parts because there's going to be very little shiny in this build (sorry Jim S.): By the way, the wheels are really really hard to squeeze into the tires, so I am hoping my paint will not get scuffed or wrinkled on the way in. More progress soon, stay tuned in: -

We sat out on the porch on a lovely pollen-infested afternoon and an hour later had cut open the trunk: Hinged it and finished the bed interior so that it looks clean and smooth in there! -

Hope you've heard me by now say I love this kit. Just in case you haven't: I LOVE THIS KIT, and here's why: Just this look: -

Dr. Cranky replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I cut off the box top just to have around for visual inspiration, although this build is going to deviate from the original in a whole bunch of ways. I began by drilling out these port holes that in the original will have lots of decal work just to make them look like port holes. I like this look better, it's a bit of work, but it's all about the journey. This ride has been through hell and back and it's lived to tell the tale: A pretty crankshaft from the parts box makes a nice front frame bar. The moon tank is going to be relocated to the back. -

Definitely part of the inspiration for this build, but it's going to have some CRANKYHEADEDNESS to it too: I think he wanted to stand out and not save as much money on the shaving. LOL. -

We might go with the raw wood look for the guitar: -

We got the basic parts cleaned and dechromed, so the fun has started. I know, words are just words without pictures. Hold tight, they are coming. Cheers, DC -

YOU BETCHA, and I gotta look at Mr. Gibbon's guitar collection to see if I painted it like one of his. Loving this kit, LOVING IT. -
Been doing some research on what Billy Gibbons names his guitars, and one of them, a Gibson Esquire, he calls BONES. Oh yeah, so this is giving me plenty of ideas. CROSSROADS BLUES RAT ROD ("The Gibson Bones Limited" for Billy Gibbons of ZZ TOP) I knew this would happen. I knew this kit would arrive and I would have to stop everything and build one. It arrived early and I did an of it and the more I looked at the kit, the more it called out to me to make it look worn. The kind of proper homage that perhaps Doctor Cranky could ever offer one of his musical muses (Mr. Billy Gibbons of ZZ TOP fame!) Anyway, I am building this kit, fast, pretty much box stock, and the intention here is to have a blast with hit and see what happens. So stay tuned in CRANKYHEADS for pictures and progress . . .

Greetings, you Zombie Hunters . . . I think you will love this, although every single vehicle built in scale on this thread looks better than this: -

Dr. Cranky replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Bill, the more we all talk about this kit in terms of what we can do with the parts, the more possibilities there will be for building some cool models. I'm not kidding you when I tell you that just the wheels alone in this kit are going to spruce up thousands of models we will see in the coming years on this forum and on the show tables. -

Actually, Bill, that hood can be cut and you can put those holes on the side of say a 48 Ford or a 49 Merc. Imagine how cool a 49 Merc would look with those bad boys on its hood? Just a thought. -

Amen to that, Greg. I've literary slept with the kit under my pillow last night. It spoke to me, all that great plastic, it said, if you build me, you can use all my parts (along with all the other great Revell 32 kits of recent) to build to your imagination's specs . . Nobody is talking about the interior. I love it. I think it's a great option. The guitar is a plus. The engine can be swapped or dressed in a gazillion number of ways. Really, what's not to like about this kit. Oh, and you will see once you are holding one in your hands, that the parts are clean and made out of this sturdy beautiful white plastic. For all lovers of the 32, this is definitely a re-energizing canvas. What's on your mind? -

Thanks, Harry. I wonder, if GREG MYERS would mind putting it as part of the #1 post? Thank you. I hope others will post pictures of the parts they love, and also videos, if you have a YOUTUBE channel. The more glimpses the better.
