Hmm... The El Camino with soap box derby car, looks like a modified re-creation of the original '69 kit, with the new tool '68 and I'm guessing discovered soap box derby car inserts.
Exactly right. The original derby car that was recently found combined with the new-tool Elcamino

Same here with that one.
Also these two come to my traumatized mind quickly
Oh yea...I forgot about that horrible J Car! I had one too; my first IMC kit. It was scrapped for parts about an hour after I (sort of) built it.
I recently bought another one; this time it will be done up right.

Still curious about the Pacer wagon that's coming. Can it be built stock?
The Pacer will be buildable stock, it has the 6 cylinder engine, and the box art shown in Gerry's post above is the one they're using

I'm pretty sure I have or had a set at one time, and I believe they came from the original annual AMT '67 Camaro. But I could be wrong on both counts.
Yes, the '67 Camaro annual has the Apache wheels. The '71 Monte Carlo annual has them too. There may be others.......
-
Why?
That question would best be answered by Round2

The Rupp roadster will be a cool kit, hope they bring back the Honda three wheel atv kit .
There were plans to reissue the Honda ATC90, but I'm pretty certain it was cancelled.

"Distressed" promos are a great, value-priced source of rare subjects. A promo's value drops with every deviation from perfect, so every scratch saves you $$$$. Not long ago I bought a very restorable '68 Barracuda promo for $35. If it had been perfect it would have been $150 or more, and I doubt I could have scored even a painted glue bomb for $35.
Yup. I don't have a '65 Fairlane annual or the T310 reissue (yet), but this little beater cost me five bucks (the A pillar is missing on the passenger side).

Model King reissued the Chevelle a number of years ago, so it does exist in the modified stocker form.
Yes, we know that.
I was referring to the fact that most of the Modified Stockers were heavily butchered annuals, The Chevelle, however only contained the body from the original annual (Craftsman) kit. The rest of the original bits could exist somewhere, but I doubt it.
-
I wonder if Round 2 could be able to restore all of those hideous Modfied Stockers back to their former glory. I know one or two of them have been reissued in recent years. So, Round 2 must still have the dies?
Yes, they have the tooling for all of the Modified Stockers if you include the "restored" GTO that Ertl tried (and failed) to return to it's former glory years ago.
Like Snake said, they're all just too far gone. It would take way too much $$ to bring them back, and they wouldn't release a half-baked effort like the aforementioned GTO.
The only one I sometimes wonder about is the '65 Chevelle. Back in the day AMT seemingly used the body from the Craftsman kit for the stocker (and the funny car as well) and tossed the rest. Probably scrapped years ago, unfortunately.

If you don't mind going the curbside route I think the beige promo is easier to find than the kits

Those Torque Thrust wheels were in the AMT release that had a blue car on the box, but they were unplated. They may have been in at least one of the other Super Stock kits, but it's been years since I've opened one of either of the kits up.
The AMT '62 wheels were similar, but these are freshly-tooled buy Round2.
A closer look at the new one:
-
Anyone know if those Torque Thrusts are from a previous (maybe drag?) version, or are they newly tooled? I know there was a Don Nicholson version, but I thought that just had steelies.
If the mags are new, I wonder if they're adding any other speed equipment. Anyone got the inside scoop?
The mags are new; the same ones that were tooled for the Lawman Plymouth. I believe the only other revision are some spacers provided to raise the suspension and some optional rear tires (slicks as used on the Lawman)

There have been a lot of T kits though so it seems possible that they could offer a new configuration of parts.
I can use a few more Model Ts so I'll be in for a couple even if it is just a reissue of one of the above kits.
I was told a few months ago that it would be a reissue of this kit with the Stooges packaging.

Remember being told by somebody with good connections in the RC2 days (think it was Tom Carter) that the mold was actually changed back to the Bonneville for the Buyer's Choice issue. Haven't carefully compared parts between the issues, but it makes sense because some of the engraving in the pictures above looks slightly different between the two issues (in particular the front fender badge looks smaller on the gray body).
Yes..that makes sense. Something that doesn't show up in my top photo is a very faint suggestion of a border surrounding the Bonneville lettering on the rear quarter of the BC body, as if an insert was added to the tool.

Thanks guys for the additional info...the guys at Round 2 are also checking on this....not a clear answer yet. If someone can post detail pictures of the c2004 reissue, I can compare those to the Prestige Series and earlier released here in my stash...including the front fender nomenclature, grille, interior patterns, etc
Best...TIM
They are indeed checking on this; my Buyer's Choice kit will be in John G's hands tomorrow. I snapped a few quick pics of my Prestige (white plastic) and Buyer's Choice (grey) kits. Sorry if the pics are a little off...just quickies before I packed them up.
I also noticed something else typical of the RC2 era; the Buyer's Choice box art kit wears vintage AMT redline Firestone Supremes mounted on MPC(!) 8-lug wheels, neither of which are in the box. Something you won't see happening with Round2.

Sound like good news, but...... Looking at Yuri Andyushenko's build of the Buyer's Choice kit in the "Underglass" section here, makes me question a few things. There were a few things that didn't look quite right on the model in his photographs. Which make me question if the original tooling was lost in converting the kit to the 2+2? Then later, Ertl realized the mistake they had made and tryed converting it back to the Bonneville? I hope I'm wrong on this theory. And that the Bonnevile dies/tooling is still intact.
The few things that make me question if the tool has been messed with? On Yuri's Bonneville the front fender badge, just behind the front wheel well is missing. I'm also not seeing the Bonneville nameplate that should be in the driver's side upper segment of the grille. And I can not tell from his photos, but the rocker panels don't look quite right to me. They look too smooth. There should be horizontal ribs/fluting on the rockers.
He also shows some very nice photos of the interior before he installed it into the rest of the kit. There is some talk here that Ertl changed the upholstery pattern in the dies when converting the Bonneville into the 2+2. Is the upholstery pattern in Yuri's build correct for the original Bonne kit? Or has it been changed?
By the way, Yuri's Buyer's Choice Bonneville is a beautiful build. As nice of a AMT Bonneville as I've ever seen. So the problem isn't Yuri's build from what I can see. I'm waiting to hear his reply on things I questioned about his kit. The only thing I know for sure, from what I can see in his photos, are the missing fender badges.
I repeat....my Buyer's Choice Bonneville looks identical to the Prestige Bonneville. Fender badges, upholstery, fluted rocker trim, grille etc etc.
FYI...I opened a Prestige Bonneville, a 2+2 and a Buyer's Choice Bonneville and compared all three.....

Having said that, does anyone have a copy of the circa 2004 "Bonneville" reissue? If so, what's inside - an original Bonneville, a "2+2" as would be suggested from the above, or a new set of contents that would suggest the tool was returned to a Bonneville in a semi-original form after its foray into "2+2" territory?
Thanks....TIM
The Bonneville lives. I knew I had a "post-2+2" issue of this kit somewhere in my stash. Sure enough, it's the 2004 Buyer's Choice issue. I took a quick look; the body, interior, grille, dash, rear trim panel etc are identical to the Prestige Bonneville. To my naked eye, they're the same pieces...like the 2+2 never happened.

Alright... I'll bite, since I was only going on what I was told. Why did the '71 Demon get cancelled in the first place?
I'm not sure if that one ever was more than a rumor or speculation, don't think it was 'officially' announced by Round 2
It wasn't just rumor or speculation. They wanted to do a Demon based on the new-tool '71 Duster. The kit was postponed indefinitely (not cancelled) at about the same time an announcement was made re it's release.
It might make an appearance some day. it might be dead and buried, nobody knows. This was the point of my original post......nobody knows. Just something to keep in mind when somebody tells you "Here's what I heard...."

Here's the Gas Man, from the '60's-era 49er box.
I don't know what the box will look like or the contents will be, but I know they have an original 49er kit on loan. Note that the 49er had unique custom wheels that they would have to re-tool if they were to bring it back.
