  1. Jay, I just took some creative builders choice in using black pearl over black. You see black unless it's in the sunlight.
  2. Well, I'm gonna think long and hard and at least 3 - 4 times before I do another build using a SLIXX sheet from 2000-2004 that has dayglo stripes. All the decals from this 2001 sheet worked flawlessly, but those dayglo red stripes all shattered and tested my patience getting them back together on the model. Whew.......... Rustoleum gray auto primer, duplicolor medium charcoal metallic and black pearl over brilliant black. Kicked the nose out to a noticable snow plow look, used a LH exhaust that TomS is making from resin. Well, at least the shifter and fire bottle are in focus... Solvaset doesn't seem to have any effect on the dayglo stripes, here you can see where the back stripes have already broken and fell off The flash shows the black pearl nicely
  3. Yep Jay, that's a tear away. I use plastic wrap to make them and this piece had lines in it. I just was too lazy to make another one.
  4. That is stunning. Great weathering and post race look and the passenger side window is awesome. Well Done.
  5. David, you are right about the Rustoleum automotive gray primer. It is a much smoother finish and is outstanding. I use it now instead of the Dupli-Color gray filler primer. Thanks for showing the Rustoleum primer.
  6. I use a number of them for details and touch up on the NASCAR models I build. I like the multi colored set of fine point sharpies for marking the wheel hub lines from the lug nugs, and also use the black fine point and touck the painted lug nuts in the center to represent the wheel stud sticking from the lug nut. I use a standard silver sharpie and mark the wheels on the outer perimeter to represent wheel balancing weights. Sure wish sharpie would come out witha fine point silver one. I have a brand new silver sharpie to lightly touch the raised bolts heads on the dash panel and to highlight the bolt heads on the windows. Just remember to let the ink dry at least a day before using a lacquer clear. I sant the heads of the painted switches on the dash and touch them with different color sharpies. All kinds of usefull ways to use the different sharpies.
  7. Here's the answer to the Coast Guard being in Spanish. Coast Guard recruiters from the Texas area help rollout the #44 "Shield of Freedom" Dodge for Team Coast Guard Racing/Labonte Motorsports at the Texas Motor Speedway prior to the start of the O'Reilly 300 Busch series race April 3, 2004. I gkuess the thought was towards recruiting and the large percentage of spanish speaking fans.
  8. I never gave that fact a though Ricky. You may be right. I'll check and reply with the answer I get from the decal designer.
  9. What way are you talking about ricky12?The Coast Guard on the left side and the Guarda Costas on the right? Yes it was made that way. I couldn't find any reference pic's of the right side to verify though, but the maker of these decals is very meticulous about accuracy.
  10. Justin drove this piece in the Busch Series. Grandt Line 1:48 scale rivets in the front valance with a piece of electricians tape cut to scale height covers the rivets, dash mounted ignition electronics were made from plastic except the MSD boxes that were used from the kit, taller rear window blade, Grandt Line 1:48 scale nuts, bolts and large washers used as rear spoiler mount hardware, lowered ride height, fuel filler made from two pieces of aluminum tube with plastic rod center piece, aluminum tube fuel overflow tube, right side exhaust, JWTBM black windshield hold down decals as well as cut to size skirt decals, windshield tear-off made from plastic wrap. Kit helmet painted chevy engine orange, then tamiya flo orange sprayeddown onto the top of the helmet and tamiya orange sprayed up from the bottom of the helmet. Lightning bolt helmet decals from a 2002 #29 kit decal sheet and the flame decal from a #20 decal sheet. Notice the *Coast Guard* decal on the right rear quarter fender.
  11. Yeah, thought that'd get your attention. Well that's what it says on the hood. Shauna Robinson drove this car in 3 05 races, and it's her signature over the door, and Mark Green drove it in 4 05 races. John Beatty art and Thad produced great decals. Since I screwed the first paint job up and had to purple bath it and reprime & repaint, had lots of time to do details. Tall rear window blade with dayglo yellow decal paper from Microscale, decaled both sides of the rear spoiler, rear spoiler braces, fuel filler made from aluminum tubing and painted plastic rod center, JWTBM skirt decals, Microscale dayglo red front valance decal, then added Grandt Line scale bolts to the valance and used thin electrical tape to cover the bolts, dayglo red decal paper surrounding the cowl inlet, upper & lower grill tape with JWTBM tape pull decals, made the shelf for the dash electronics and wired them, JWTBM 03-04 chevy & pontiac chrome windshield hold down decals.
  12. The T-bone Busch Series accident was the Busch race 2001. He had a tough time with the steering wheel on the Busch car and was uncomfortable with the wheel and the locking mechanism. His Cup car was fine, just the Busch car he was concerned about. During the Caution grouping for the restart, going down the front stretch, he pulled up on the wheel to check it and IT CAME OFF!!! Before he could get it back on to steer, the stagger in the car turned it dead left and he was T-boned by a lapper coming up very fast to take a position at the inside row. I really don't think Steve was ever fully recovered from it, his speech always seem labored and slurred. A shame, he was very talented, good looking, articulate and seemed to be a rising star.
  13. Steve returned to nascar, after his devastating 2001 Darlington Busch Series Crash, for the 2002 Darlington Cup race. This is the WetWorks WW60 Darlington-too tough to Park sheet, white primer, Boyd's Aluma Yellow Pearl with the A, B & C pillare area painted Krylon indoor/outdoor gloss black. All the fun details with a tear drop roof camera made from .060" Evergreen half round plastic rod, the drivers side exhaust made from K & S 5/16" od x .014" wall aluminum tubing cut at an angle and squashed/formed  to this shape. This is the 38th build for 2008 and the last.
  14. Yes, I make the tear off's. I've made templates for each model windshield, 00-02/03-05/06-07 Monte Carlos, 02 & 04 Dodges and 05 Taurus from yellow post-it notes. Leave the sticky part of the post-it on for the top of the tear off template, this helps hold the template in place while cutting the plastic. Get a small mirror, 4" x 6", and lay a small piece of kitchen plastic wrap down on the mirror. You have to lift a corner up and lay it down a couple times to get the plastic wrap smoothed out. Lay the correct yellow post-it template on the plastic and cut around the edge with a sharp #11 x-acto blade. Lift the template off and put it back with the rest of the post-it templates, and lift the cut piece of plastic wrap off and transfer the plastic to the windshield. It takes a little patience to get the plastic tear off in place and all smoothed out but it's worth it. I use JWTBM goodie sheets, and Mike70SS's 08 goodie sheet, for the triangle tear off tab decals and center windshield inspection dots. Here is a link to a How To Folder on another NASCAR Model Forum. I make the window nets too as well as other details. I love to do the details. I don't build and install the engines nor do I detail the bottom of the chassis. I do detail the exterior of the body, the interior and the wheels/tires. http://randyayersmodeling.com/modelingforu...pic.php?t=43450
  15. Whew, finally got this one finished. This is by far not well done. I put the tape on the wrong side for the separation line on the B and C pillars which made the yellow too high on both sides. I've always said I'd rather be lucky than good sometimes, in this case it's true. I have a set of BIC Mark It permanent markers, like Sharpie, but different colors. The purple one is a dead on match for the purple paint so I used it to make the yellow areas purple. It's hard to see, but I know it's there. :pissed:  Should've been more careful. Then I forgot the rubber ducts for each rear quarter window and the "X" roll cage brace behind the seat. Jeez, I really went to sleep on this one. Beautiful colors, too bad the digital camera can't replicate the shade of chartreuse and purple. Used a different background, and base, to see if the purple would show better. It didn't. :idunno:
  16. Thanks everyone, your comments are most gracious. I build as a hobby, for relaxation, and I love to do the small details. Like everything else, it's the little things that make the whole and I love detailing.
  17. Ah Ha Dave, you've discovered my secret. I build shelfers and tie them down to single display cases with wire ties. I enjoy detailing the body exterior, wheels and tires and the interior. I glue the hood down and there's no engine in there. I also do not detail the chassis. This allows a quick build and time to devote to the detail areas I like to do.
  18. Thanks for the very nice welcome Folks. I have recently reduced my kits, and the decals assigned to those kits, from 53 kits and 55 decal sheets. I'm down to 22 kits and a decal sheet assigned to each one. The only Kevin Harvick scheme I plan on building at this time, but that could change.....it always does huh, is the 2003 #29 Monte Carlo Snap-On "Winston" scheme. The #59 STP Ambrose build was a most enjoyable build. My first attempt at making a Fusion from a 05 Taurus. Had to fill the fuel filler on the LH side and move it to the RH side. Sanded the nose of the taurus, sanded and filled the grill, raised the bottom horizontal part of the rear quarter windows and reshaped them. A little bit of modifying but thats what make it fun. If it was easy all the time it would quickly become boring.
  19. Wow, WOW. That is magnificient modeling David. Stunning.......................
  20. Thanks. Here's a few more. 2008 Nationwide #88 Brad Keselowski Navy Blue Angels Richmond scheme. Close up details of the TV panel camera I made. Dash electronics wiring details and roof camera details. 2006 Cup #14 Ginn Clubs & Resorts Sterling Marlin.
  21. Hello Folks. Just joined this Forum. Here are a few of my latest builds. 2008 Nationwide #59 Marcos Ambrose STP Winner. I used a 2005 #17 Taurus kit and modified the nose, rear quarter windows and rear bumper. 2007 Nationwide #60 Carl Edwards Dish HomeZone Gateway scheme. Use a 2005 #17 Taurus kit with mods.
  22. Hello Folks. I just joined the Forum and look forward to participating. I build primarily 1:24th scale NASCAR Busch/Nationwide and Cup (prior to 2008 CoT) models. My preference is the unique, obscure, seldom seen decal schemes and use other than kit decals. I will be posting a few of my builds in the NASCAR Forum.
