  1. Great work! I love the stripes. Decal, paint or vinyl for the gold accent? Tim
  2. Ryan - something like this. Tim
  3. If you look carefully in the horn snowcap - the reflection is me and my camera crouching over the model. This has to be my favorite pic I've taken in a long time. The photograph background is reflecting in the side of the hood and the person with the ballcap appears in scale. Tim
  4. I saw this truck built and photographed in 2005 - I wanted to build a model of it and started it in 2006 modifying an Italeri 377 cab and hood. I put the model back in the box and slowly gathered parts and pieces for the build. I started back on it in mid November. The chassis is Evergreen strip #392 and the crossmembers are Evergreen #409. The above pic shows how I install glass - a tip passed to me by Rick Mark. Doug Walker make the Schlumberger logos for me. I need to trim the excess decal film off the peep window. More pics are on my site at timstrucks.com Thanks for looking! Tim
  5. Tractor, trailer and the load.. now that's an undertaking. Nice progress. Tim
  6. Okay.. I opened the box after my workbench was cleared of a recent project. Mind you, this is a test shot. Just parts. No decals, instructions etc.. The kit looks fantastic! Clean, crisp, free of flash or gobs. As for making it into a daycab, my first thoughts are to separate the sleeper from the cab at the panel seam at the rear of the door, then make a new backwall and cab corners. The roof would need to be fabricated also, then cut the interior floor for the daycab, cut a piece of clear for the rear window and rework the rear cab mounts. Not a lot of work for an enterprising pattern maker and resin caster to cast a daycab for this. I'm taking photos now for an upcoming Trucker's Corner column. Tim
  7. I am saving my comments until after I open this box sitting next to me... ! Tim
  8. The tank straps are chrome vinyl that do not attach to the mounts. Tim
  9. They used to use orange and black back when they called themselves "Dowell Schlumberger." The color change was about 10 years ago. The blue on the chassis is slightly brighter than the blue that BJServices uses. Tim
  10. Depending on the truck I'm using for information - either a FABCO or MH. Tim
  11. Scott, I don't think it is a 'standard' color - but the colo Schlumberger uses. Tim
  12. Here's a project I started in '06 - and decided to work on it some more. A 2006 Peterbilt 357 Vocational Hood 6x6 for Schlumberger. Here's how it looks tonight (11/29/10) I'm using the spec's from two different trucks - but the general idea will be something close to this 357 Additional build pics are on The Workbench Thanks for looking! Tim
  13. Nice! I look forward to the full-sun photos. Tim
  14. Do you have any Future Floor Finish? If you do (or a similar clear acrylic), pour some in a bowl, dip a tiny brush in and apply a dab of Future or clear to the faces of the dials on the dash. Let it cure. The clear will make the dials 'pop' with a look of having a glass face. Tim
  15. Scott, nice clean build so far. Tim
  16. Looks good so far. I like the instrument panel work. Tim
  17. The cab lights and horns are in the kit. The builder chose not to install them for the box art. Tim
  18. A Glider Kit - or "kit" as some companies call them: Cab, hood, front suspension, frame. No engine, no rear suspension. Fully wired. Has a radiator. Rolling glider: cab, hood, front and rear suspension, no engine (or no transmission). Gliders are rare today as manufacturers don't like to build them (it takes just as much work to build a glider as it does a full truck, and it takes more effort to move/transport them around). The red and white 389 on the right is a glider kit. No engine, transmission, exhaust or rear suspension. Tim
  19. Glider kits can be a fun builds and good saves for kits that became donors for other projects. Tim
  20. WOW! That is a boatload of scratchbuilding ! I'll bet the hobby shop loves it when you clean out the Plastruct display! Tim
