  1. sorry about that ben, i have been cleaning up my pictures in photobucket. they are back up now.
  2. that's exactly why i decided to do this. dare to be different.
  3. this is my new project for the 2010 show season. hope to debut it at the old dominion show in richmond. 144" condo, scratch built headache rack, lift axle, real aluminum wheels and a bunch more modifications. colors will be sunset mist, titan silver, gunmetal and metallic grey. this will be pulling a scratch built 48ft drop deck trailer. trailer will not be done in time for richmond though. here are a few progress pics.
  4. this started as the trumpeter alf fire truck. i stretched the chassis and body for a tandem rear. chassis is fully plumbed and wired. details include alclad chrome for most parts but some done in bmf, real aluminum wheels, tires cast by jamie (moluminum), scratchbuilt hoses in bed. painted in one of our local company colors (green/white). this will compete in the 2010 show season. it won at the new jersey region 2 convention on its debut and placed second at another show last year.
  5. here is a model i built for the 2009 show season. it's a 378 pete with 150" condo and scratch built 48ft covered wagon. i added many resin, photoetched and scratch built parts. it done well last year at the shows and even won a best in show. it has since been retired to the display cabinet.
  6. you can get aftermarket parts from sourkrouts, kfs, auslowe.
  7. if the weather is fair i will be coming from winchester for this show. i will have my fire truck and my ford 9000 with condo and scratchbuilt dropdeck trailer. hope to see you there.
  8. my last order was 400 dollars from chris and i waited 3 months to get everything. he does take care of his customers though, he orders about every four months so you may have to wait a bit. he will also take special orders if you pay the shipping from the supplier. you can also contact him directly through his website.
  9. i have found that the aluminum plate is the worst for coming off on your fingers. i use latex gloves and it still seems to come off before it is sealed. the stainless steel metalizer that i use for a primer does not seem to come off after being buffed out. once you learn what to do and what not to do.....it is a great product.
  10. testors model master enamel paints and clear......nothing else comes close. i was told by a master modeler......testors makes a great product, you just have to learn how to use them. enamel paint cut with lacquer thinner....that's it. this is my opinion and works for me everytime.
  11. "Let me start off by saying that some of the projects I've seen on here are insane and way beyond my capabilities. This will be the first WIP post I've done, so be kind. I unfortunately do not have the patience for the super-detailing, but I do alright by my standards." you seem to be on the right track with building and detailing. detail where you can see and let it go. super detailing is a nice challenge... but is not required. i could have detailed everything on my last pete but the judges would never see most of it. keep up the clean work....you have talent my friend.
  12. if the duplicolor you used is a lacquer based product that could be the problem. alclad chrome needs to be sprayed over enamel only. i spray mine through a pasche VL at 20psi. i have also sprayed chrome and polished aluminum over an enamel clear coated black with good results. just remember that alclad is a touchy product. one time it comes out great and the next time it ends up silver. hope this helps.
  13. the wheels are cast by jamie at mo'luminum. his products are always top notch, and priced well. i had to do very little prep and then sprayed them with alclad polished aluminum with alcoa decals. the decals came from a good friend of mine.
  14. Win, yes it is, i needed a decal that would fit in that spot and this one worked great.
  15. the truck and trailer are 38" overall and thats with the fifth wheel slide all the way back. the display board is 42"x6".
  16. here is a truck i started some years ago and decided to finish it for my upcoming show this weekend. i have a few odds and ends to do.....then touch up the weathering a bit and it will be done.
  17. matt, sounds like the making of a very sharp truck... good luck and i can't wait to see some progress pics. the offer still stands if you do happen to need something though.
  18. wow matt...this thing came out great. the bodywork and paint is top notch. congrats on the wins. i have a bunch of 1/16 truck stuff if you might need anything for the next build.
  19. looks like my kind of truck, can't wait to see it completed....great job so far
  20. looks great tim, love the color and stretched wheelbase.
  21. yea i think you have seen this one up close and personal. for all you guys who don't know...kurt took first at this show and i was runner up. i must say his win was well deserved and it was a pleasure to compete and hang out with him. looking forward to doing it again.
