That explains a lot. The Lindberg kit is just a re-pop of the ancient and horrible Pyro kit with chrome parts added, and the Monogram kit is very good. In retrospect, it would have been better to use the Monogram kit for stock and the Lindberg kit for custom. (Hindsight is always the best teacher.)

Michael, my attention will always be drawn to vintage cars like this and I never saw this post. It's been on the forum for less than a week and it's already near the bottom of page 2, guaranteeing that few will see it. I think there has been a high volume of posting in the past few days, which will bump it down. Now for a critique: I think you did a very good job dealing with a kit that looks to be a piece of junk in the way it was designed and manufactured. Parts are all over the place in terms of scale, from a giant bumper to too-small wheels, and it looks like a bear to get the parts to fit. The paint and detail on the custom version save it, however, and it's extremely well done, especially considering what you had to work with (although we classic purists hate to see such an iconic car in that form). But I wouldn't have posted that because I prefer to be constructive and not negative about what I see. It would be good if you could write some additional detail about what you did, what your challenges were, and how you dealt with them.

Mack AC "Bulldog"
sjordan2 replied to Harry P.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Harry P building in 1/24? Wonders never cease. And this build is pretty wonderful. PS: Is the drive chain flexible? If so, can you tell me the dimension as seen from the side? I really need a small, working chain like that. -
Odd, I made this post earlier, but it didn't take: Very nice. I think it would be cool to add chrome knockoff spinners to simulate Rudge racing wheels that were often seen on Gullwings.

That's AUTOart for you. Superb.

Seems like it, since I got the January issue just a few weeks ago and today received the Feb/March issue #157 (in perfect condition, BTW). Outstanding contest issue, with many models to drool about. I just wish there were more detail shots of some of the best builds.

I don't get the point of this thread. Can somebody clarify a bit? Is it about car enthusiasts who copy others?

37 ford truck grill
sjordan2 replied to BIG-JIM's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I believe it was in the truck section of this forum that one of our members who had a small home-based business making decals was issued a formal cease-and-desist order from Kenworth (I think) to stop selling logo decals and to destroy any he had in inventory. You'd never expect such vigilance to reach down to this level, but they DO check. -
DIY Hemi Orange?

Why not just get touch-up paint from the dealer? It's a pearl. http://www.dragtimes...0544608108.html -
DIY Hemi Orange?

I think I misunderstood the question. I thought it was about a classic hemi orange. -

I would love to see someone do KAR120C with the dog-dish hubcaps and headlight stone guards from "The Prisoner." http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1399&bih=719&q=PRISONER+LOTUS&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2&aq=f&aqi=g1g-m2&aql=&oq=

I was just looking at the SAM newsletter highlighting a few cars from the show, and none of those is as good as the majority of what I see in your pictures. That must have been a tremendous display.

Anyone having problems with Photobucket? All the images I've posted are currently unavailable, supposedly because of maintenance. But I don't see that anybody else's images have gone away. (See the window on my signature line below.) EDIT: Checking their site, it appears to be legitimate and affects only about 2% of their users. They say it'll be fixed tonight.

Something about the panel gaps and rearview mirrors. Diecast model.

1937 Alfa Romeo 2900B from Franklin Mint. But the wire wheels could be more realistic. -
Very much looking forward to this.

Boy, did you ever try to punk the wrong place. And you didn't even put it in the right category. Ta-ta.

800-hp Shelby GT500 Super Snake

http://money.cnn.com/2011/04/07/autos/mustang_shelby_super_snake/index.htm?hpt=C2 http://www.muscularmustangs.com/2011/news0492_2012_shelby_super_snake.php Speaking of Shelby Mustangs, this just in from CNN: A '66 Shelby GT350 "barn find." http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2011/04/06/dnt.rare.nustang.found.kctv?hpt=T2 Barrett-Jackson coverage starts tonight, and I wonder if these stories will spur higher bidding on Mustangs. Remember the '66 that sold at B-J for $5 million? -
That is SLICK! Excellent period paint job.

Wow, I'm jealous. You probably know more about where to start with a kit than I do, but I know the Hubley/Gabriel metal kit and the Monogram SJ are readily available out there. Both look like they'll take quite a bit of modification to replicate the real one. Just thought I'd toss in some pictures until Harry awes us with his "Under Glass" shots of the Mercedes.

On last week's Real or Model, someone mentioned they'd like to build a 1/16 Packard Phaeton. There's a formal sedan now on eBay that could serve as a good start for it (currently at a decent starting price). http://cgi.ebay.com/entex-1937-12-cylinder-packard-formal-sedan-1-16-ob-/260763477650?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb6b6e692

A remarkable 1904 Olds model

Too bad this site requires having to jump through hoops to register. -
Beautiful work. It looks to me that the Jetstream Blue has a much finer metal grain than most metallics. Would it really be closer to a pearl?
