ALBERT- I used to own a 69 Z-28 (without the R/S option) hugger orange, white houndstooth interior, black vinyl roof and black stripes. (see my avatar picture). I'm planning on doing a 1/12 of my original car sometime next year so you can be sure I'll be watching this post. Anyway, have you tried various Camaro Clubs or restoration sites? I belong to the National Corvette Restoration Society (I now own a 74 vette convertible) and there's all kinds of info there. I would imagine you should be able to do the same for a Camaro. Good Luck! Marty

Ya gotta love the Hemi Pro-stock cars. Looking real good. I remember back in the early seventies when Sox & Martin came to Ron Leek's track in Byron, IL. to match race Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, and if memory serves me right Ronnie took 2 out of 3 that day. Marty

TOM- I NOW know for a fact that the hobby lacquer nozzles and spray patterns are alot more fine than the hardware store lacquers, lay out much nicer and more even. I am in the middle of re-doing my body for my W.J. diecast Pro-stock in Tamiya lacquer and so far it's a world of differance from before. I'll post some pic's in the near future before decals go on. Amazing what you can learn from this board, outstanding! Marty

Very nice ride and very well done! My favorite year of GOAT. Love the color and the wheels. Brings back fond memories. My 1:1 was blue / black interior, 4 speed, 389 4 bbl. I bought it used in 68. Marty

Lacquer Paint and Tape Removal
Build Up Boy replied to Build Up Boy's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
JASON- It's been about 1/2 an hour and I pulled the tape with excellant results. Thanks for the input. Now, how long should I what for the black lacquer to cure before I tape it off to lay down the silver lacquer? THANKS....Marty -
Hey All- Just got done putting on my 2nd. coat of Black TAMIYA lacquer on my 2001 W.J. car and was wondering how long do you guys wait to pull off the dividing line tape? I'm using a die-cast body with TAMIYA metal primer and like I said I just laid down my 2nd and final coat of black. Now, how long to wait to pull the tape? From my previous post; Re-doing my paint on the 2001 Black & Silver W.J. Grand Am Pro-stock car. There is a big differance between Hobby lacquer and Hardware Store lacquer in rattle cans. Not only in the thickness / body of the paint but also in the nozzle jetting / spray. Never too old to learn are we / me? Thanks....Marty

LEE- That's a remarkable job on your minuature and from what it looks like the 1:1 also. Are you a member of the NCRS by any chance? You should join up with that stunning example. I wish someone made 1/20 a kit for my 74 convertible but all that's out there is the 1/24 scale. The guys on the NCRS board are always kiddin' me that what do I need a model for when I've got the real thing to work on, some people just don't get it. GREAT job! Marty

NEAL- Do you have a picture you could post of the Testors paint job? Marty

Can anyone tell me; is there a big difference between a "Hardware" store bought rattle can lacquer paint vs. a model brand, such as "Tamiya" rattle can lacquer? I'm talking about basic black & clear products here. This hardware stuff seems to lay out really thick and I'm not likin' the look. Maybe this is what I get for trying to be cheap. Any comments or opinions would be graetly appreciated. Marty

WAYNE- Maybe the'll be some free NHRA tickets in the mail for ya, congrats! That's AWESOME! Marty

SHANE- Great cars! Gotta love Glidden's Pinto Pro-stock. I'm working on diecast version of Warren Johnson's 2000 Black & silver Grand Am. I like your paint stand, what'd ya make it out of or did you buy it? marty

Pro-Stock "Glass" Clean Up For New Decals
Build Up Boy replied to Build Up Boy's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
ROGER- Is Super Clean a household cleaner or another kind of product? Where would you get it? I've never heard of it. Thanks....Marty -
Any recommandations for clear coating over a lacquer paint job and sealing decals other than clear lacquer? I'm concerned about too much build up / coats with the clear lacquer to acheive a high gloss look. I don't want to loose alot of detail on my 1/25 Pro Stock car. I do not own a air brush. Marty

"Google" Model Car Resin Kits and you'll come up wit all kinds of sites that'll lead ya to what you're after. Marty

Pro-Stock "Glass" Clean Up For New Decals
Build Up Boy posted a topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I'm workin' on a "One Off" W.J. 2000 Grand Am using a PMC diecast car as a base. The windsheild, side door glass and rear window have been painted at the manufacture (on the outside) with what you see in the pictures. What is a SAFE way to remove all of this material and leave the clear plastic good enough to accept all of the correct SLIXX decals that apply to this car? THANKS.... Marty -
1969 Z-28 Interior Issue
Build Up Boy replied to Build Up Boy's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
LEE- Thanks for the suggestion. I did hear about that kit but I'm partial to doing a 1/12 scale. Although if no ideas are brought forward about the white houndstooth fabric I may have to do a 1/25 scale car. Marty -
Thinking about doing a 1/12 version of my 69 Z-28. The actual car had the optional "Houndstooth" interior (see pictures). Any suggestions for duplicating this type of seat fabric? Anybody done a 69 Pace Car perhaps with the orange houndstooth interior? THANKS Marty

Steve & Dan- Looks good, think I'll give it a try. Marty
