Thanks guys.. yeah, I still need to wet sand and do a gloss coat or two... I sent the wife out today while i was at work to buy some sand paper and the highest she could find was 600 grit.. Needless to say, she didn't buy it ... Where do you guys generally aquire the high grit sand paper.. 8000-12000 ? -
I have seen that porsche up close and in person as well as the rear tires for it while they were off the car.. they are massive no doubt....

Hey guys.. i know this might not seem like a big deal to most but I just recently got back into the hobby and have been trying to get a good spray and finish on a model car body for 3 or 4 days... I have done the best one yet... This pic is the product before wet sanding or gloss. the coat is nice and even and the primer and everything went very smoothly...... Please critique and any advice would be helpful.. the pic was takin minutes after the 3rd or 4th coat.....

Thanks guys... The bottle caps just happen to be perfect diameter for a 1/25 car it is the same circumfrance as some of the drag tires I have so they are a perfect cheap alternative.. They only take like 3 to 5 minutes to make...

Primer/Painting problem
ProStr33t replied to ProStr33t's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks.. i am currently painting an S 281 saleen and the primer coats went great !! apllying color now.... I am a perfectionist so i tend to get flustered when it doesn't go right hehe.. -
You can't see it in the pics, but due to the tooling with the flat head the sidewalls are rounded just like a real drag tire and this will look as real as any tire you buy IMO... still no comments lol

Parts aquisition

Thanks guys.. i appreciate the help and welcome... -
Hey guys I was sitting in the work truck today and was bored.. I just happened to find a way to make drag slicks.. Let me do a p[ictorial, let me know what you guys think..... Disregard the glue.. just use putty !!... Have fun.. it takes a little practice but overall is very simple... Tools needed.. (1) Exacto knife (2) Two water bottle caps (3) contour putty (4) desired rim (5) black spray paint (6) Sand paper (7) Thermostat Flat head screw driver Step one: Take the bottle cap and screw driver.. Press screw driver down on the bottle cap while you rotate the cap... Keep doing this till you have the desired tire wall thickness or rim hight.. Cut out the hole in the center using an Exacto knife. Pop rim into place Repeat process on second bottle cap and then glue them together... Next step is to sand the edge out of the center where the caps meet.. Then paint the caps with out the rim in place of corse.... I thought of this today, don't know if it has been done in the past.. If so I appologize.. If not then I'm happy to help.... These tires are free as long as you drink water bottles... This is also a good way to get us to drink more water LOL

Primer/Painting problem
ProStr33t replied to ProStr33t's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
K, thanks.. I am really getting frustrated with the whole body painting thing now.. I have no motivation anymore and the body looking good is what would help my motivation.. I decided to go with a different body/kit and now the stupid body is the same color as my primer and I have no clue what kind of coverage I am attaining.. if this doesn't work this time I wont know what to do...... My dad made it look soo easy and I am just losing hope... -

hmmm interesting... How long should I let the first coat of primer dry? It really isn't even a coat, just a light cover mist right? -
Primer/Painting problem
ProStr33t replied to ProStr33t's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
was a respray.. But I sanded down and cleaned with warm water after the sanding.... The primer is Model Master White primer.... Both are enamel.. The blue is a gloss bright blue and was 10+ years old... The primer is brand new, got it today...... -
Ok here is the deal.. i am trying to learn how to spray a body.. i am also getting a little frustrated as I continue to fail miserably.. Today I got some primer.. I sanded the car down, cleaned car with warm water and soap.. Then I placethe primer can in a warm pool of water, then I spray light mist coat, wait 10 minutes, spray 2nd mist coat, I go out to spray the 3rd mist coat 10 minutes later and guess what.. Perfect coating? No not for me.. The primer for some reason is crackling.. Why ?????? Pics of the devestation

Thanks for the welcomes guys .. Also thanks for the tips.. You are right.. i didn't use a primer and i live in North FL. So yeah, very high humidity on that day.. i recently aquired some primer and will be redoing this car in the near future... What do you guys think about how the body sits? The rear fenders are like 1/32 above the rear tires and I love it.... MY next project after this one is a Shelby GT 350... I'm thinking of trying a 2003-2004 cobra engine and drive train swap.. hopefully I can get it to work... About how far away do you guys hold the spray can?

Here are some pics.. Not as pro street as most.. more like a weekend drag car that runs 11's lol The tail lights, mirrors and etc havent been placed on the body because I am still not happy with the paint job... I a, struggling to achive a smoth even finish... The rear tires are prom a ZR1 kit that was a 2n1 kit.. the tires are the street rod tires.. i had to cut the frame and chassis to get them to fit.. turned out great...
