  1. A true giant in our hobby...he will be sorely missed . My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends . One thing about the "I-NET" and these forums and all , is the chance you get to meet people like Bob . Although I never met him in person , he was always there to respond to some of my "oddball" requests for info over the ........... yeh..I guess it's been years . Well GODS SPEED to you Bob , until some day we may meet ...................................... With a heavy heart Steve D.
  2. First I want to say thanks to all the guys from the "Kitbashers Club" for putting on the show . There were a lot of beautiful models on display . One thing I learned was never pack your models in with your luggage , no matter how many "peanuts & bubble wrap" you use . I brought four models to display and the were a mess . Oh well live and learn . I kind of expected the shipping damage but was not prepared for all the dust , at least now I know what to expect . I had a great time chatting with Bob Ramero and a bunch of guys from the club ,I'm sorry but can't remember everyones names .(I'm luckey I can remember my own!) One thing thats great about this hobby is you can learn something new from just about every one you meet . And it seems everyone can relate to what your doing . Hopefully at some point in the future I'll be able to make it back to one of your shows as I really had a good time , Thanks again guys ! Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.

  4. How about trying clear decal film sprayed the color of your choice . They go on nice and thin and can be cleared over , or not , if you want the effect of stickers ala NASCAR . Stripes like this are used by aircraft modelers to depict stripes on ordinance and wing walkway stripes etc . The thing thats good about these is the fact that you can make a ton of them for next to nothing and keep applying them until your satisfied with the results. When used with solvents they disappear like they are painted on . Just another option , Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  5. Hi , I'll be visiting the Malibu Beach area next week and was wondering if there were any contests , shows or even a meeting of a local modeling club I might drop in on . Visiting my sister in law with the Mrs. and figured I'd snoop around and see if any thing is going on ! Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D. p.s. I know its been a while since I've posted , but they pulled the plug on the internet where I work . Considering that I'm at work most of the time it makes it tough to stay in touch . I work the 3-11 shift , and have decided to make an effort to make more late night posts in lieu of Sportscenter and late night flicks !
  6. This is an all automotive show with 32 classes and 9 Master Awards . I know its the weekend after the NNL East , but here in New England its the "Biggie" when it comes to all Auto shows . Masscar website ; www.masscar .com Take care and see you around the clubhouse Steve D.
  7. Sunday 30 March 2008 in Chicopee Mass at the Knights of Columbus Hall . This is an annual IPMS type of show with 35 catagories (eight automotive) & 13 special awards . This show is always a good take and kicks off the spring show season here in New England . More info available at www.wwmodelclub.org Maybe I'll see you there , Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  8. Bob thanks for the info on the show , I'm probably going to stay overnight at my sisters in White Plains and head down early on sat morning . I've attended the last couple of shows , but driving from Halifax I have a hard time making it there by noon . Then rushing around and getting set-up is too stressful , plus the show is half over by the time I get relaxed to check everything out . The ride down from White Plains should only be a couple of hours so I think thats the way to go . I'll try to look you up when I get there , Thanks again Steve D.
  9. Hopefully someone will post all the particulars of this show here . i.e. Theme , online build catagory, date and location would also be nice . TIA Steve D.
  10. I love the line of decals from Vintage Racing Miniatures ( V-R-M ) and have built most of the Corvettes in the series .Any thing that has run at Daytona or Le Mans , especially the older stuff , really catches my attention . As for the dragsters , if its considered nostalga I'm on board . And of course Gassers where my favorite would have to be the Willy's coupe or pick-up although I love them all . THERE 'S NOTHING LIKE PAST GAS !!! hmmm maybe a theme for this coming NNL east . I build a lot of models box stock , and the old Ferrari's and Lambo's also capture my imagination . And finally any Detriot iron with too many ponies under the hood is a good candidate for a build up by yours truly . Having said that I must admit I grew up near the Naval Air Station in South Weymouth Mass , and have built almost all of the single engine fighters of WW2 . The only country I have missed there would have to be Italy with the only reason being the lack of decent kits years ago . I have also built a couple of ship models but have yet to build any TARGETS ( what aircraft modelers call armor or tanks) , but I do have a couple in my stash and maybe someday....... Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  11. I just happened to catch a few minutes of the start and noticed a couple of Mustangs were running this year . Good luck to all who are racing . Its always first call , time to get the gokarts rebuilt and repainted for the coming season . And all you decal makers out there , there are some really cool color schemes out there , hint , hint .... Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  12. What do you mean , pretend? This site is the best , I tried posting on SA , but they wanted tooo much info , plus they make you jump thru hoops just to post . Really I DON"T HAVE ANY NATIONAL SECRETS , I just like cars , and love to build models . Of course having Gregg AND Jarius run this asylum only helps keep things from getting totally mental . Controlled chaos ahhhhhhh there's nothing like it . Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  13. Last years world of wheels show had a model contest , and I was wondering if this years will have one also . The web site for the show appears to have something about it but section is unreadable . Anybody out there know????? I'll be going anyway , just wondering if I should bring my models or just my camera . TIA Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  14. These are pretty decent kits but require a lot in the area of detailing as they are pretty basic . Also the exhaust pipes need to be filled in as they are 3/4 solid . All in All they build up to be nice models out of the box , but with a little extra work can be exceptional . Hope this helps , Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  15. Under the tree this year was a new digital camera from Cannon . 8.0 mega pix wiyh a 10x optical zoom , and a ton buttons and options for manual operation . ( Gregg thanks for the advice in the "ask model cars a question" section of the forum , it was very valuable and helped me with my decision . ) Also under the tree was a HUGE Yellow hard cover Corvette book .The thing is awesome , and Mrs. santa said she got it off the clearance rack at Borders for $9.99 , and it has pictures of sooooo many Corvettes I have yet to build !!!! Well between my new camera and those two Grand Sports on the bench it looks like it's going to be a busy winter . Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  16. Hey Frank does your wife have any sisters ?????
  17. Was just wondering if any one had some guidelines when picking out a new digital camera . I'd like to keep the price below 300 dollars if possible . Right now I'm lookig at three possibilities : 1 Sony 7.1 pxl 10X optical zoom : 2 Fuji 8.0 pxl 10X optical zoom : 3 Kodak 12.0 pxl 5X optical zoom . The Sony and the Fuji have the better lens while the Kodak has the better resolution . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated , TIA Steve D.
  18. I have already tried to get this special color from two of the hobby shops in the area , to no avail . I noticed this is available on Tamiya's official web site . (or was last week ) I' m going to try to order some , if I can't get it from them who do you recommend ? TIA See you around the club house , Steve D.
  19. I have just started the ZX-RR NINJA from Tamiya and was wondering if anyone knows if if the real Kawasaki green is lighter or darker than Tamiya's TS-22 . Supposedily Tamiya released a special paint for this kit , but I have been unable to track any down . I figure I can lighten or darken the TS-22 by using different primers . Thanks in advance , Steve D.
  20. Growing up , I used to raid my mothers work hand bag , (she was a registered nurse) for rolls of medical tape .There are so many types and variations that choosing one over another is a matter of personal preference . I've found that almost all can be painted with acrylics or colored with "Sharpie's" markers . The main issue is getting a pattern or texture that is in "scale" for model cars . Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  21. The product is called the "LENS DOCTOR" , I have looked for it in a couple of the Drug store chains to no avail . It does seem like it would work well on scratched plastic . If anyone knows of a source please let us know . Take care and see you around the club house , Steve D.
  22. Scary is REVELL'S Mickey Thompson's Challenger , the four engined land speed car !!!!. I built that car a little over a year ago . It was one of those kits that gets put away in frustration over and over again . Although if you battle it out till the end , it does build into a nice piece . But between the exploded view directions and the high parts count along with a fairly complex build , and I have to wonder how many of these monsters got built . Accurate Min McLarens ? the only problems were the headers , as long as you made sure the flanges that go flat against the engine block were aligned the problem ended there . I built all three , and while the 1st was missing a strut or two around the headers , by the second two , I had figured them out . These kits are still among my favorites of all time . Ismael go on and build that ENZO , those kits are so well engineered they almost build themselves . WE are talking about the Tamiya kit right ? I have not built the Revell kit yet , but was thinking about a Batman 2020 version of that kit . Anyway the Tamiya kit is a real smooth build , just the decals and paint , no problems for you . Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  23. Been working for the state of Mass for 20 years and will be taking my first T-Day off this year , 2 kids in college coming home , I decided it was my turn .. The thing I love about this holiday and also the 4th of July is that if your here and your an American , this is your holiday .No religions , no races , all Americans enjoy your freedom and most of all enjoy your families ..... this is what America is all about . Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  24. Kit reviews , Whats new , and Ask Gregg & Jarius are my three favorites in any order . Over the years the Mag has evolved into what it is now , the perfect resource for the model car and truck builder . Now that the internet is so popular , the magazine's forum has become one of my main connections to the hobby period . Questions that used to take 4-6 weeks for an answer , now , a couple of days , and you have multiple answers , from some of the finest builders in the "WORLD" . Hmmmmm it's hard to complain about that !!! So what do I want ? MORE , MORE , MORE , MORE , MORE !!!!!! It's better now than ever , so keep the evolution going , and hopefully I'll run into you guys at a show on the east coast . Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  25. The 49 Merc comes with two hoods so as an experiment , I took the second one and sprayed it with Tamiys gray primer . Waited a day and then dusted on 4 coats with the 4th being a "wet" coat . Well the paint alligatored a little but I none the less applied a couple of coats of Mr Hobby Super Clear , Hit it with a polishing kit , layed on 2 more coats of clear and now its as smooth as glass . By spraying over gray instead of white the finished color is a little deeper and riched. This paint shows a lot of potential for undercoating with different colored primers , stay tuned as I will conducting further experiments...said the Maaaaad doctor . Take care and see you around the clubhouse , P.S. Sprayed right out of the can Steve D.
