  1. Looking at my stash of unbuilt kit's , that ought to give me just about enough time , to clear out space , for these future releases . And yes El Camino Billy , I belive you do know the source . As for companies planning on future releases , all we can do is wish and hope for the best . I'd rather hear some of the positive news once in a while , instead of all the doom and gloom from the like's of Lindberg and AMT . Take care and see you around the clubhouse Steve D.
  2. Attending the Masscar show yesterday I had an interesting conversation with some one who will remain nameless at this time . But the word is that Accurate Miniatures is currently working on kits of the Daytona Coupe and a roadster that will share the chassis . The kits are supposed to be on par with thier Grand Sports kits and be fully detailed to the max. Now I don't know about you , but the Daytona Coupe along with a couple of Chapparals are very high on my personal wish list . Three weeks ago I scored a Gunze Sangyo Daytona Coupe on E-pay for $ 85 after trying for over a year . (I set my limit at $100 including shipping) And finally I somehow won one while no one was looking ! After going through the kit , it truly is impressive FOR A CURBSIDE KIT , But it is just that , a curbside . Now I see Scale Motor works has released a curbside kit also WHY ? At over $150 I cant see how they can justify that price , I mean if they had improved the Gunze kit with full detail or something I might show a little interest , but come on $150 !!! And like I said , I'm not sure if it's even as good as the Gunze kit , never mind better . I'll build my Gunze kit and paitently wait for Accurate Miniatures Release , And , YES I HAVE it from a good source . Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  3. Lindberg kits got a bad reputation from thier older releases of air craft , ship models and car kits . Just prior to them going out of business they finally figured out how to produce a decent car kit . I mean , thier kits improved to the point they were as good as the Rev/Mon releases . The'66' Chevelle , Crown Vic ,'67' 442 , 330 Super Sport , and there were a few more that were released right at the end that were equally as impressive . The problem was by the time the modeling public figured out how good these kits were , the company was gone . If Lindberg had another year or so , thier last series of kits were good enough to maybe save the company ? Oh well one will never know . But yes , that kit builds up nicely , and is an excellent candidate to be chopped , chanelled , sectioned , lowered , frenched , or what have you . Out of the box , in stock form this car could be a winner . Don't be afraid of all Lindberg kits , thier last releases were pretty sweet !!!! Hope this helps , Take care and see you around the club house , Steve D.
  4. I think there is a possibility I might be veding at the show also , depending on the availability of tables . In any event look me up , I'll be wearing my green Cape Cod Scale Modelers shirt , with my New Hampshire 300 tan hat . Meeting new people is what this hobby is all about , so I'll see you Sunday the 15 th Take care and see you around the clubhouse, Steve D.
  5. I didn't arrive to the show until 12;45 , so after setting up , and grabbing a bite to eat , the day was almost over before I got started . I saw you a couple of times and was going to introduce myself but it seems there was always a crowd and i didn't want to impose . Any way I'm the guy in photo 75 in your line -up , maybe if your going to Masscar I'll see you there . See you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  6. The old Taurus is gonna chance to stretch her legs next weekend , NNL East on Saturday in "Jersey" , and Valleycon 17 in Chicopee MA. on Sunday . ( one of my regular contest stops ) Last year was my first trip to the NNL East and definately not my last . As long as the price of gas stays below 5.00 a gallon , I'll be there......oh yea, if it does go above 5.00 hmmmm......hitchhiking to "Jersey" with a box of models................. sounds like a Stephen King thriller . Hope to see you all there , and put some faces with the names . Take care , and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  7. Of all the old classic's the "58" Chevy has always been one of my true favorites .
  8. Or superglue a piece of scrap sprue to stop it from rolling , once in the foot convinced me !!!!!! Stay safe and see you around the clubhouse Steve D.
  9. Almost all the major hardware chains now carry the small compressors with a small tank on the bottom . Home depot, Lowes ,Sears,True value , Ace , even Walmart has them . I have a Campbell Hausfeld that cost less than 90 bucks new . Just purchase a moisture trap and a fitting that will match your airbrush and your off . These compressors are great because you can fill the tank and have enough air for two to three models before you have to fire it up again . Silence is golden ( especially late at night when the tykes are sleeping ...and the old lady for that matter ) A big plus from buying from a major supplier is if anything goes wrong with it you can return it . I had a problem with mine after 10 months and walmart replaced it with a new one , no problem . Five years and half a million models later it still works like a champ . (Oh boy I hope I didn't curse it!!!!) Take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  10. Hi , I'm looking for a source for some Mickey Thompson valve covers to go on a 392 Hemi from the Willy's hot-rod or the Stone , Woods , and Cook gasser. Resin , Plastic or metal it does not matter . I'm building a replica of a friends car and it has these . They just have a large M/T on them . TIA , Steve D.
  11. I would like to build a model of a stock Willy's coupe if possible and was wondering if not , would it be possible to use the running gear from a "40" or "41" Ford to fake it . It seems to me that technology being what it was they might be very similiar , or even hopefully , the same . I don't ever recall seeing a stock kit ( even on E-PAY) so I'm not sure if there was one produced . I know in thier day they were not extremely popular , but after the war thier shape and light weight made them highly sought after by racers , and now by anyone who loves hot-rods . I have a couple of AMT kits and also a bunch of the Revell kits , both the Hot Rod version and the SWC gasser . I figured if any one could sort this out it would be you guys . I 've actually written a pretty cool story about the "42?" Willy's and would like to build a model of it ? before I share the story . And of I'll be sending it to you guys first of course for your approval . ( I think you'll get a kick out of it) TIA and see you around the club house Steve D.
  12. We have never met , yet I feel like I know you . I do know that I've seen a lot of your work in the "MAGS" and if I'm a little green it's only with a little (or a LOT) of envy . I , speaking for all , welcome you and look foreward to sharing some thoughts and idea's on our great hobby . see you around the clubhouse Steve D.
  13. That 's the first thing that came to mind when I saw that profile.... pretty sweet. They probably will drop some of the "show" gimmicks but if they can stay with those profiles the definately have a winner . When I was in High School (1976) I used to bomb around in a 64 convertable ( everyone keeps callind them 64 1/2 but in all the years I've owned it I've never seen anything that said 64 1/2) it had the straight 6 but everyone in town thought it was a V8 . I can't tell you how many time I cheated death in that rig . My dad took it back when I joined the Coast Guard and restored it to better than new condition , the only thing he changed was the color from dark metallic green to baby blue his favorite color . If cars could talk I'd probably be in jail . see you around the clubhouse Steve D.
  14. Yes indeed Fred does carry those decals in both "a" and "b" styles and I can personally reccomend them . (I've built a couple of those kits , and as a matter of fact have one on the bench right now.)
  15. Thanks for the heads up on the fit , I sprayed mine with primer last night , and plan on starting the finish tonight . First I'll have to make sure there is no warp in the body . An easy fix now before I go any further . Now if I can just get mine to look like yours (even just a little bit !) I'll be happy . NICE JOB ON THE BUILD !! One question , does the body come off like the older Yellow Le Mans cars ? People would freak out when when I'd take the body off at shows , then zip , pop it back on ! The older ones built up very sturdy if they wern't so light you'd swear they were die-cast . Thanks again for the heads - up . See you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  16. Well I happened by the hobby section of my local Wally world a couple of weeks ago and whats this ? New motorcycle kits from Revell ? Maybe I should build one up for the Cape Cod show in a couple of weeks , yeah thats what I'll do . Well Steve how did it come out ? You know that there are two different kits and that there are two different versions of each kit ? Well halfway thru the build-up I thought (a dangerous thing) what the heck I might as well build both versions so back to Wally world I went....... So here it is the night before the show and I'm putting the final touches on the FOURTH ONE . I don't know what happened it's all kinda fuzzy but I HAD to build all the versions . Does anyone know if they are planning any more ? , not that I would start building them in the next ten minutes or anything . If you get the impression I like these kits , your right . Something like this has been long overdue . PLEASE make the parts on any new releases interchangeable with these kits and they will absolutely fly off the shelves . My next project is figuring out how to post pics on the web Well take care and see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  17. It seems these kits are either curbside without much detail , or are full blown highly detailed kits . The funny thing is that often the price paid does not reflect the detail included in the kit . I picked up a Lamborgini JOTA from Hasagawa on e-bay a couple of weeks ago , and it has to be one of the BEST kits I have ever seen . Right up there with Tamiya and Accurate Miniatures . The same can be said for Fujimi's GT-40 kits , they are a LOT better than most of thier stuff . I guess when in doubt just ask for advice here as there is a lot of knowledge floating about . Take care and see you around the clubhouse, Steve D.
  18. I picked up two of the new kits last week , "ACES WILD" and the "CRUSADER" Each kit comes with options to build two different bikes .The options include tanks, wheels(one spoked and one Billet) pipes ,sidecovers , and carb covers . The options in the two kits are slightly different so the customizing possibility's are endless . The front forks are a different legnth so you can mix and match for a different rake for the drag bars and ......... My only suggestion for the build-up is that you cut the front forks just below the top brace so you can add the forks after painting the frame . Otherwise you will have to mask them off , while painting the frame and that to me is unacceptable . This week I bought a couple more and hope to have all four done for the Cape Cod show this Sunday . One was painted Met Green over gloss Black while the frame was met Green over Gold . Keeping with this theme I painted another met Red over gloss Black , with again the frame met Red over Gold . Both came out pretty nice , while the other two will make use of the kit decals If any one plans on attending the show make sure to look me up , I'll be all over the place . Take care and see you around the clubhouse ! Steve D.
  19. Then try gold but gloss black is the ticket
  20. I started using Tamiya's Lacquer spray bombs about a year ago and have forgotten how to use my airbrush . If you haven't tried them give them a shot , a little pricey but worth it !
  21. I did a little experimenting last year with metallic green paint and I reccomend you do the same . It's amazing what the "primer coat" can do to the final tone or depth to the color . Last year I painted a 427 Cobra gloss black then overcoated it with metallic green . The results were amazing , so much so , this car won Presidents Choice at the Masscar model show in "05" The black gloss adds a real richness to the color , try it on a scrap body and see what you think . I've tried it under different colors with differing results. Green and Reds seem to show the most drastic results . Gold as a base coat is another color that is popular and definately affects the tone or richness of the final color . While black deepens the tone , gold seems to lighten it . Right now on the bench I have the new REVELL "ACES WILD" motorcycle kit . I painted the frame gold , overcoated with metallic green , and the tank and fenders gloss black with the metallic green overcoat . I have to tell ya I'm tickled with the results . They look like two different colors . Now take the same green metallic and spray it over gray or white primer and you have two more colors or tones of the same color . All the paints I used were Tamiya Lacquer Spray cans . Any questions ? give me a yell ! Take care and see you around the clubhouse, Steve D.

  23. Hi Ken, There a couple of photos of my models taken by Billy Kingsley at the Masscar show this spring . Page 7 of the model car mag forum is where you can find this link (GENERAL).The Hurst cars are photos #32 & #41 . A couple of my other builds are also shown as numbers 26 , 46, 51, 53, 68 , and , 76 . Some day I'll take the time and figure out how to post pictures myself , I have a decent digital camera and all . About the cars , like you have probably noticed there are no sponsors on the kit supplied sheet or the one from Gooche . I raided a couple of sheets for my sponsors . And looking at photos of the real cars I missed a couple , so if your looking for an exact copy don't use mine for a reference . Having said that they both came out looking pretty decent . Take a look around on line for photo's there is a ton available and have fun . Any questions drop me a line, take care and see you around the clubhouse . Steve D.
  24. I've used Gooche decals on a couple of "Hurst Hemi-under glass" kits recently , both clear coated , with great results . One kit was clear coated with Tamiya clear lacquer , and the other with Mr Hobbies Mr super clear lacquer . Both of these products come in a rattle can . My only recommendation is that first you give the decals 24 hrs to dry (especially if you use any setting solutions) and second when applying your clear , dust on light coats . A puddle of lacquer is death to any decal I don't care who makes it . Hope this helps , see you around the clubhouse , Steve D.
  25. Hi guys , I just finished a build up of the Tony Nancy "22 JR" cars , one is the Plymouth Super Sport slingshot , and the other is an altered roadster rail . Although this is a rereleased kit , I think they had some of the old decals kicking around , and stuck them in with the kit . (In my mind I had visions of Cartograph decals in the rerelease , along the lines of the Stone Woods and Cook Willy's decals .) Any way these decals SUCK and must be replaced . I checked Slixx to no avail , also Gooche but I'm not sure if I saw all he has available . Do you guys no of any companies online that specialize in replacing decals on rereleased kits . I know there are decals for different versions of certain cars , but I just want to model those two cars . I originally bought two kits , so I've tried everything in my power to make these decals work but NADA . I've come to the conclusion they are just no good . Any and all suggestion would be greatly appreciated . ( Speaking of Cartograph , the decals in the Willy's kit are fantastic , I just finished a build up of the Black and the earlier Blue car with the "Olds" motor. Fantastic !) And thank all you guys for the reference material !!! Eventually I'll figure out my digital camera so I can share some pics online with you guys . Until then I have a ton of kits to enter in the upcoming Classic Plastic Showin Lawrence Mass on OCT 8th so maybe a few pics from that swow will end up on line . Well thats about it from this end , Take care and see you around the clubhouse Steve D.
