  1. Just moved this to the drag racing section. Realized that I had started my blog where no one could get to it. Thanks to all the tips that modelers have given to this point. More pics soon, been working on the cage a little. Also, will be starting to build the Ross Gibson that I bought for this piece. Rick
  2. Hello all, This is my first blog, it may become obvious. Had decided to build a late model drag car some time ago and was inspired by a few that I have seen in this forum. I started with the Revell '06 Mustang GT because it had a flat hood. I also purchased the Revell 55 Chevy Pro Sportsman kit for the running gear. The 55's running gear required little modification to make it fit the Mustang Body, but the cage is way wrong for my app. so I am in the process of scratchbuilding my own. I will attempt to post a few pics from time to time to show progress, if and when I figure out how to do that.. I invite all comments and suggestions as I am somewhat of a rookie. Thanks to all....
  3. Thanks for all the tips.. I did buy the tubing instead of the rod. But I like the idea of inserting a metal rod inside of the tubing. And especially the tubing that Peter was talking about the metal rod wrapped in styrene. Bet that stuff is expensive though. Can't wait to get to it. Maybe this weekend I can try a few of your ideas.
  4. Thanks diy, Thought about putting my elec. coffeepot in the room where I do my builds. Only use it for when company comes anyway... Maybe just leave the coffee out and use it to heat the water. Ureka!!! a new tool for the model bench. Thanks again buddy
  5. I used to build model cars and trucks as a kid, got back into it in my early 20's. Now at age 50 I decided to get serious. Have several model projects I am working on these days and am like a kid in a candy store with all of the items available to detail the new creations I have come up with. My question: What have others found to be the best method of shaping plastistruct/evergreen? I am in the process of building my own roll cage for my 06 Mustang and although this stuff is fairly easy to shape, but it does not stay... I have tried shaping it then holding it under hot water from the fawcet, tried heating it under the light-bulb of my table lamp. What works?? I did buy some alum tubing which shaped up nicely but I am not very proficient at soldering so I threw that out the window. Can anyone help me here?? Thank you
  6. Thanks Don @ Reliable, Sorry I have not gotten in touch with you about the Mustang Body. Work has been a little hectic lately, when I do get home I work on models for an hour or so then hit the hay. I decided to go ahead and use a stock body from an existing kit, had to open the wheel wells a little and remove the wipers but it should be good enough for a rookie like myself. Thanks 3men2 for your inspiration, I have started my own blog to show the progress on my Mustang project. Another reason for starting the blog is I hope it will help keep me motivated to stay with this build. I have bookmarked this blog and will check back often, can't wait to see the next round of photos/discussions for this project.
  7. Thanks 3men2, I did get in touch with him. He gave me a number to call, just have not had the chance to call yet.
  8. This is an awesome project, I too am working on a couple of mustang drag car projects. I really like the 06 body, but do not see it on the reliable website. Could you give me some direction? Thank you,
