  1. Hey guys I know most of you who posted said to start with the Tamiya body but I went ahead with the Revell first. This is the first body I have casted and I needed something as a learning curve. Anyway, I have made some huge progress on this and I hope to spread some good news in the next couple weeks. Thanks for looking
  2. Check out this link http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3039 Jake
  3. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Andy I am going to half to try your method, since this clay isn't working. It holds great for the smaller boxes. Jake
  4. Well I have been trying to cast a Baja Beetle body and it will be the first body I have attempted. This is the second attempt at this and I am getting off to a rough start. I built the box for the mold and filled the body with clay so the first half could be poured. After I poured the RTV I walked away and came back an hour later. I found this mess in the dining room and the wife wasn't happy [] []. I had about 16oz of RTV on the floor and all over the table. These pics are after the clean up so you can see the mess it made. I am going to let the stuff cure then pull the rubber up. I was able to scrap alot of it up and use it for some other molds I was making so it is not a complete loss. Enjoy the pics and hope this dosen't happen to you. I should be able to salvage what ever cures in the box and pick up from there. Hopefully everything works out in the end. I firgure this was a $30 - $40 mistake. Jake
  5. Steve, that kit was made by Aoshima and has been discontinued for quite a while now. I find them on ebay every once in a while and you can expect to pay about $30 - $40 for one. It is a really nice kit but is a right hand drive model with no engine. I am going to be cutting the dash up and converting it over to a left hand drive model. Jake
  6. I pulled this one out of the closet and decided it was ready to be built. I am going to be lifting the model to make room for the Swampers and I am building a roof rack. I am keeping the factory wheels on this one and I don't want to get really fancy with it. Jake
  7. I hate that AFX has to treat customers the way they do. I was lucky that I bought mine when I did about 4 years ago. I still had to wait around 8 weeks but I finally got the body. I may try the Bronco in resin myself. There is a 1/24 plastic toy which can make a very nise resin body if casted. In fact I would not be surprised if this started out from that plastic toy. Thanks for the compliments. Jake
  8. Paint has been accomplished but not without it's problems. Even though I didn't want this Bronco to be refered to the Monster Garage Bronco, it does share some similarities in the way it looks. I wanted to keep the paint looking somewhat vintage with the white top and I could not get over the light blue with the white top combo, so that is what it got. Once again I go back to the MG Bronce again. The paint peeled in one spot and I need some help on how I can go about fixing this. If I have to strip the body I will just weather the model and that area will become part of some rack rash on the model. I would much rather fix it but I hate painting and I don't want to start over again. I added some mesh to the front grille area as well. Jake
  9. The body was casted by AFX Resin. It was originally a funny car body but it was the only one available at the time. Everything else was built or resin cast parts I casted. The shocks are from a kit that I designed Jake
  10. Hey guys this has been a project I have been working on for at least a year and a half. I am now starting to wrap it up and get it finished. I still have quite a bit left but it is starting to take shape. I had to scratchbuild about 80% of the build and the body is a resin piece I bought about 4 years ago. Jake Started with this Ended up with this
  11. Excellent build Doug, you have the buggy thing nailed man. This is going to get alot of attention just like the Kubel.
  12. Looking good man. I am glad to see another person building a offroad vehicle. Can't wait to see more. Jake
  13. Nice pic! When I first saw that I was reminded of a picture in one of the off road mags. Robby Gordon was jumping a truck ove a crowd of people. Looks good and the pic is great. Jake
  14. The color is looking good. Can't wait to see the updated pics. Jake
  15. Sorry it took so long to get back to this topic. Dave has pretty much explained what needs to happen. Just make sure you use some type of mold to mold release. Here are some pics of how one of my molds looks for a wheel. I had to make a two piece mold to cast this wheel. I wanted the same features you are looking for in this wheel. I don't have any pics of the mold making process but with Daves explanation and these pics, you should be able to see what needs to be done. This is the two mold halves. You can see the pour hole and the area where the resin flows. Here you can see the two halves placed together. The large hole is the pour hole, the smaller hole allows the mold to breathe as it fills with resin. Resin poured, cured Two halves seperated. You can see where the resin cured in the pour hole and you can also see the wheel that was created. Trimmed wheel ready to prep for paint Jake
  16. Hey guys I just got these done and they are ready. www.freewebs.com/bigjeepzzresin 73' - 75' Ford Truck Grille 76' - 77' Ford Truck Grille
  17. Looking good man. This one may end up being nicer than the Kubel. Jake
  18. The front suspension was painted and assembled tonight. I still have some touch up but for the most part here it is. I still need to add some more details to the steering as well. The goal was to maintain a suspension very similar to an OEM Ford. Jake
  19. The rear is done. This is the first time I attempted making the u-bolts for the axles. They will be cut to length during final assembly. I am going to start the front later. Jake
  20. Well I got some work done to the rear suspension. I do not car for the detail of the axles in this kit so they are gone. I am installing a set of resin Unimog Portal axles in thier place. I had to build the leaf packs and here is where I have gotton thus far. I hope to finish building the rear tonight and hope to get strated on the front. Front suspension is going to be the standard coil sprung suspension with radius arms. Thanks for looking. Jake
  21. Wayne, I have seen pics of your truck before, can't remember where though. You did a great job and I really like the way you have it set up. I see several trucks running around in the GA and FL that are set up as hunting rigs. I still have a long ways to go on the bed. I started removing the trim from the bed today and it looks like it is going to be a long process. I hope to have some pics in a few days. Jake
  22. Casey nice job on the 8ft bed. I am going to make on of those too. I will let you know about the 77 grill the mold has been made and I am a few days from listing the grill. I will keep you updated. Nick you can get those tires from www.Rpphobby.com. Corey is a great person to deal with. Look for the 49" Irocs Jake
  23. Doug, The build is looking pretty sweet. I know you still have a ways to go but so far it looks great. Really nice paint too. I bet it looks good in the sun Jake
  24. Hey guys I have had this MK F150 Camper Special and I decided to start some of the modifications to it. First thing up is major surgery to the bed. Whoever decided to make a model of this truck (camper special) made a bad decision, man that bed is terrible. But then again I can't complain too much because I did get the year model I wanted. Anyway I cut the bed and glued it back together. I also had to cut a chunk out of the frame. I am making the 6' 3/4 short box. I have a grilll from a 77 (which will be casted in resin very soon) so I decided to turn it into a 77 F100. I am going to be cutting most of the extra trim away to give the truck a real clean body. Of course the tire choice is the 49 Irocs, I could not come up with any other build to use these on. Thanks for looking and I hope to post some more progress on the bed soon. Jake
  25. Sorry I have not posted the pictures yet. I have had a rough week and I have not had time to put something together. Hopefully I can sit down tonight and take some pics for you. Jake
