Our parents passed away last year so my brother and I have been cleaning out the old homestead. Well, he has, I live 200 miles away.
I had forgotten about most of these over the years, but now, 35 or so years later, after seeing these, I'm bitten by the bug once again.
My father got us into drag racing back in the 70's when he took us to Indianapolis Raceway Park. I kept going long into adulthood as has my brother.
So I began building the cars that we watched. And as most of you know, the 70's was a golden era in drag racing.
Last time I went to visit, he gave me this box. When I opened it, a lifetime of forgotten memories came flooding back.
This barely scratches the surface of what I built in my teen years.
I watched the real things burn rubber on the 1/4 mile. Even had the great honor to meet Grumpy himself and spend time with the team as a buddy of mine was one of the members.
Still don't know why I painted the hood red though. And notice the front wheel's are different too.
The Vega will be the first restoration. I've contacted Slixx about new decals already.
These were when funny cars were really funny.
These things tore up the track at IRP.
I think I've got enough chassis and engine parts to finish out a couple of them.
Lord only knows what I was thinking here. Most likely something my mother gave me as a gift.
But I'm missing my Sox & Martin Cuda, my USA-1 Camaro, my Motown Missile and my Ramchargers, just to name a few.
So anyway, I'll be back often asking for tips and tricks on how to revive these monsters.
