Now I know where my 1/24 resin RR Merlin V12, WW2, engine came from.  Alan Raab apparently made copies of this engine.  At one time I think he had available the Packard WW2 Merlin.  Where did that one come from??  Interesting post.

Maybe. The boat is 1/25. Airfix made a 1/24 P-51D Mustang with a Merlin engine. This assumes that the stated scale for each is correct. Their old Spitfire may have had a Merlin, also. I believe their new(ish) Spitfire has a Merlin, too. Hmmm I wonder about their 1/24 Mosquito from about ten years ago??

  2. Part of the haul was an AMT Chevrolet Experimental Astro I. The seller pointed out that the asterisk on the price tag meant multiple kits in the same box. He opened it up and showed me there were three or four glue bomb  Astro I kits. I just now opened it up and found two Astro I glue bombs, a Dodge Charger 3, and this other concept car that I don’t recognize. What is the white car?

  3. It’s part of the 1/8 scale McLaren M23. A guy on Facebook wants measurements in order to build a copy from scratch. I think it would be very difficult to get enough measurements build a copy without having the real part in his hands. The back side has compound curves that would would be very difficult to measure properly. Can this part be copied in resin at a price that would not be cost prohibitive?

  4. …Dragster… Houston, 1992. Way back then, I thought drag racing was the dumbest thing that could be done with money and horsepower. A coworker kept trying to get me to go watch it. I finally said I would go, if he would drop it if I didn’t like it. I went to a small event with another buddy. It was kind of cool watching the sportsman classes. Then there was Top Alcohol. I had to admit that was a heck of a thing to see. After that we were in the pits, talking with Don Prudhomme’s crew members. All of a sudden, everyone started walking away from the pits. We asked why. He said Eddie Hill and Joe Amato were about to make a run. That’s why we were there, so we RAN to the track. We didn’t realize we had run past barricades that said No Spectators Past This Point. We were just a few feet away from Joe Amato’s dragster. When that light turned green, everything changed. Wow. I have only been to see it a few times, but man what a spectacle.

  5. Tamiya street rods would be really cool, but until that happens, there’s always kit bashing. I think a Mercedes V-8 or V-12 would look cool in a street rod.
I just love, love, love this tiny roadster pickup. That’s a Jaguar XK series inline six. Tamiya makes a Jaguar Mk II saloon with the same engine. The race version may have Weber carbs, but I’m not 100% sure on that.

  6. Are they the same size for all Tamiya kits? I’m not sure if I have any car spares, but their Leopard 2A6 tank has poly caps that look right for 1/24 cars. It is a sprue with small caps and a longer one at the end. The long one is not used in the kit, IIRC.
I have two of those Leopards.

Of course, today’s cars are safer for the occupants, but they’re also constructed of tin foil and plastic.

The car in the photo could be easily repaired.

A modern car would be loaded directly onto another truck to be hauled to the bone yard.

Better the car than the people inside. No car is worth more than a person.
