I made a French recipe that calls for cooking chicken thighs skin down in a little vegetable oil. Cook for about three minutes to get the skin crispy, then turn over and cook for another three minutes. The skin did not get crispy and half of the thighs left their skin stuck to the skillet. I did not preheat the skillet. Could that be the problem? It was my first time using stainless. I bought the skillet for this recipe. All was not lost. It was still a good meal. After taking the chicken out of the skillet, the fond, garlic and shallots, chicken broth, a little red wine vinegar, and dry white wine are used to start a sauce. Then the thighs are put back in the pan and it goes in the oven for 40 minutes. I’m trying it again this weekend. Hoping to get closer to the results on the cooking show. Forgot to add: the reason for a stainless skillet is to get the fond off the bottom. On a non-stick pan…it doesn’t stick, so no fond for starting a sauce or gravy.

Thank you. I’m a plumber with 21 years experience. I took a job in new home construction service in late 2017. It was warranty work only. After 5 years there, a friend convinced me to go back to COD service (work anywhere a plumber is needed). I got really tired of people acting like I’m dishonest or a criminal. I’m back in construction service now. No selling. Just solving problems. One strange thing; almost daily I see water softeners installed by the lowest bidder. They have drains that are a cross-connection. That is an opportunity for waste water and drinking water to mix. That doesn’t mean it will happen, but it’s possible. I always point it out and give them a sketch of how it should be done. We don’t repair it because we didn’t install it. What they do with the info is up to them. People in million dollar homes have asked me to do side work. That is nuts.

Trucks I’d like to build😎

I would love to see a six door Chevy squarebody kit. Slam it, give it a wild paint job, and a matching speedboat to pull. -

Slight hijack… The Mariners church where they rang the the bell 29 times rang 30 times the year Gordon Lightfoot died. https://www.freep.com/story/entertainment/music/brian-mccollum/2023/05/02/gordon-lightfoot-mariners-church-detroit-bells/70175392007/ I saw that documentary about the Edmund Fitzgerald also. -
Not sure if it’s what you’re looking for, but the Toni Fotki LAPD Camaro has a nice looking blown BBC. It also has super cool Milodon valve covers.

Hot rod wagons are the coolest. Brabus put a bored and stroked 580hp V-12 into a Mercedes-Benz station wagon for Michael Schumacher.

Looking for small air tank with connections on the ends
LDO replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
This is the bait launcher. Cool for sitting on the ground and slinging frozen liver into a lake. Not so much for launching projectiles made of pipe insulation. It has a pressure gauge so that it can have consistent trajectory. The trigger is a modified sprinkler valve that opens and closes so fast that it uses 35psi from a tank aired up to 60psi. I want the RPG to have everything in a straight line. Better for a toy that looks somewhat like a shoulder fired rocket launcher. -

It will see very little pressure. I built something very similar to the Nerf RPG idea a few years ago. It’s a bait launcher. It can launch a 2” diameter plug of ice with bait in it, for fishing off the bank of a lake or pond. I tried it at a school yard and it went 91 yards with 60psi in the tank. The trigger is a slightly modified sprinkler valve. It’s a fast acting valve that only used 35psi for the launch. I’ll try to post a pic of the bait launcher this weekend. -

It’s for a “Nerf RPG”. It will launch projectiles made of foam insulation. Pressure will be no more than 100psi -
Something like the two gallon tank in the photo. It’s a thermal expansion tank for a water heater. It would be ideal, except it has a bladder splitting the tank in two; one side for air, one for water. Another option would be to remove the bladder, but I don’t know of a good way to do that and get everything out of the tank through a 3/4” hole.

The new(ish??) MPC 1968 Dodge coronet has a toolbox. Not sure about tools. -
Ordering From Overseas Still?
LDO replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I found out what happens. The letter carrier goes to your house, doesn’t knock or ring the doorbell, then leaves a missed delivery notice on the door. I would guess it’s the same guy who damaged two packages marked “Do not bend” by folding them up on the same day. -

I’ll darn sure pay it. I ordered a magazine back issue from Japan. An American magazine that I couldn’t find anywhere else. A second issue that my work schedule means I can not get to the post office on a weekday. -

I live in a neighborhood that has several banks of mail boxes, instead of one at every house. A package is out for delivery and it will have a bill. I’m hoping I get a knock at the door, but I wonder how a letter carrier would take payment. Has anyone dealt with this? -

This is a bummer. I bought an old motorcycle magazine from a seller in Japan. It sat in Japan for about 15 days, now it will arrive with a tariff charge. I ordered a paper model from Germany about two months ago. Due to a glitch from their supplier, it hasn’t shipped yet. Germany is not shipping to the United States. I’m waiting for replacement parts for a model from Slovenia. Also not shipping to the United States. -
I don’t know about YouTube, but Facebook pays posters to be stupid…essentially. People get paid for clicks and comments, so many posters will get information wrong, just for the posts correcting them. It’s maddening, and it’s turning social media into a cesspool. Facebook groups can be a cool thing, but I can imagine a day when they will not outweigh the garbage. Also- anyone who uses AI to narrate a video is a lazy waste of oxygen.

What would you do if you won big on the lottery?
LDO replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Oh yeah- commission a model company to make a 1/8 scale Duesenberg Model J in styrene. Make several bodies for it; Mudd Coupe, Judkins Coupe, Murphy Town Car. Maybe more. -

Buy a lot of land. Build a super efficient house. Build a Hobbit house for my brother (he would love that). Build a greenhouse the size of a football field. The middle would have a sunken area with a Koi pond and waterfall, surrounded by fruit trees. Not just a place to grow veggies and fruit; a place to get away from the real world and just relax. Some cool cars, too. Live the rest of my days in my little slice of paradise. -
I had never heard of this company. I checked out their site and they offer a white/grey scatter decal, along with the Sunset pattern. I wonder if they will ship. I’m on a few modeling groups at Facebook and there are lots of posts about companies in Europe that will not ship to USA because of tariffs.

What non-auto model did you get today?
LDO replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I wish I could find a 3D printed Honda CBX engine in 1/6 scale. I saw a custom built around that engine with a 916 single sided swingarm. It was a pretty wild street fighter. -

New Ray 1/6 Ducati 998. Normally very expensive, this is not quite perfect and I picked it up for a song. Sounds ideal for parts to add on to street fighter powered by GS1100 engine.
