  1. Thanks for all the kind comments guys and help with the colour (I'm British!) for the Platt car. As I said earlier, I've already built 5 racecar replicas with steelies/Radirs etc so I wanted this one to be totally different.

More of a shortcut than a detour, it's just a curbside because I had to get this 'finished' for our monthly club night on Thursday. (see you there, Brett)

Looks like I'll have to add an engine at a later stage when I find a suitable candidate... and suspension...dang, now it's another unfinished project :D

Wow...no engine?...no suspension?...bottom line, its STILL one of the nicest builds...IMHO.

  2. I went down to the local Hobby/Train shop today, to pick up some Zap CA glue, and a few other things, and there was a big sign on the door..."CLOSED OUT OF BUSINESS"! I spoke with the owner fairly recently on the phone, as I placed an ordered for some ModelMaster Hemi Orange Lacquer. I thought it was a bit weird that he never called me when it was in...as he has in the past. I am kind of bummed out about this. This place was really cool. He carried a lot of good stuff, like Detail Master, Tamiya, Testors, Zap, and Evergreen, just to name a few. I always looked forward to stopping by...usually on my way home from work. I will miss the store.

  3. When ever a new rule comes into play on the drag strip, sadly, some one either died, or was seriously injured, to have the rule made. The NHRA rulebook requires any car capable of 150 mph, needs a chute. Not sure of the E.T though, as its been a few years since I raced.

  4. I did a search on this, but I only found info on paint, and chrome stripping.

I just bought an AMT 64 Ford Hardtop kit with the headlights, that was already put together. I already got it apart, and got the old paint stripped with oven cleaner. It's not what I would consider a "glue bomb", but there are a few places I would like to clean up the best I can, before body prep, and primer. I just would not want to try something that might chemically ruin the plastic of this rare kit. Seems like its the plastic cement from a tube.

    Any ideas???? Thank You

  5. I just seen this 64,I am a big thunderbolt fan and like the old 56 and 57 fairlanes.I am trying to convert a 57 fairlane body to a 55 chevy prostock and use the 427 ford. Thanks for the nice pics and wish you better health.

Thank you...I am back to work without being on "light duty". Now, I have to get my 55 Chevy pro street, 62 Impala pro street, 62 Catalina, and 65 GTO finished. The Catalina, and 55 Chevy are near completion.

  6. Thanks for the reply, Mark... I have not seen many pics of the car, even though it looks like a "plain old white", I wanted to be correct. Glad to hear it is available in a lacquer as well.

BTW, thanks for the links. You just cleared up my other color questions as well!

  7. I am planning a future build of the Don Nicholson 68 CJ Mustang. It is hard to tell from the pics that I had seen of this car, and was wondering was it a "racing white" or more like a "pure white" color, or a different white shade all together?

I am sure there are some people on here that has seen the car in person. Thanks for any input. B)

  8. Not sure of the actual wheel base, but I am currently building the 55 Sportsman car using the chassis, and roll cage, etc, but, while using a Monogram 55 Bel Air hardtop 2 in 1 kit body. I had to lengthen the floor approx. a 1/2 inch, with .030 Evergreen sheet styrene, and stretch the tube chassis in the front, to fit the engine, and make the wheel tubs more centered. Only minor problem I am encountering, is, the radiator is close to the front of the engine, needing a smaller single belt, instead of the two belts.

I wanted to do this Pro Street car to look like a passenger 55, as compared to the Pro Mod 55, so the tires would tuck nicely under the stock rear quarters. Might even fit better for the car you want to build. Hope I was able to helps you a bit.

  9. Here is a 64 Galaxie I completed. It was supposed to be a quick build, with no engine or chassis work, but I was not at the hobby due to a back injury. Feeling a lot better now, so I am starting my projects again.

I wish I could have got the rear to sit higher, but its only a screw bottom chassis. I used the decals I bought from Rick Lucas. Really good person to deal with. The first set I got were printed on bad paper, but Rick made everything good. I will use his decals again, on my 63 Galaxie, and all of my early 60s Chevys. Thank you for looking.
