  1. I got to try out my new booth last weekend. I bought a small blasting cabinet off of eBay and I converted it over to a spray booth. I sealed all the seams with caulking, installed a floor from a piece of shelving, cut a hole in the back and and bolted on a exhaust fan from Menards. When the plexiglass lid is down it seals pretty tight but for added insurance from air contaminates I seal it off with tape when I'm spraying. The only air entering the booth is filtered. For gloves I switched from the heavy duty blasting gloves that were provided with the cabinet and I switched for large veterinary gloves, the kind that go up to your elbow. It'll take a little getting use to but I thinks it's going to work out fine. Brian
  2. My brush with fame started back in 2005 when my uncle invited me out to the Detroit Autorama. He knows Chip Foose through Wes Rydel (owner of the '35 Chevy Grand Master '02 Ridler award winner). Chip's latest creation was being unvieled that year at the Autorama , the '36 Ford Impression which also won the Ridler .When I got to the show I briefly got to meet Chip along with Troy Trepanier of Rad Rides by Troy, I also got to meet Charlie Hutton that use to be Boyd Coddington's painter now working for Chip. On saturday morning of the show my uncle came up to me and asked If I'd be intrested in being involved witha project of theirs, Chip had designed a paint scheme for a company jet for the Rydel company and they wanted me to pant a scale model of the jet first to get a good idea of what it would look like. I was handed a sketch that Chip had laid out for the jet and was put to work as soon as I got home from the trip. A couple of months went by and I got the CJ3 model painted and sent out. It first went to the Rydel company then out to Chips shop, my uncle told me everyone including Chip were very pleased with the results. Another 8 months went by and I recieved a call from my uncle telling me the jet was painted and that as a little reward I was invited to Sioux Falls, SD to a private lunchon where Chip would be unveiling the new Foose Stallion Mustangs along with a benefit for Progeria . I got there and after lunch there was a car show held in downtown Sioux Falls and from there I flew out of Sioux Falls with Chip and Luc DeLay of Marcel's Metal Shop( also seen on American Hot Rod) on the custom painted jet to California and got to check out Chip's shop. A couple of days later Chip got me on the set of Overhaulin. I got to fly back with Chip to St. Paul, MN where we attended the Back to the 50's car show. It was one hell of a trip and I'm still in shock that it even happend. Brian
  3. Painted this one a few weeks ago a Pro Stock Firebird. Paint is House of Kolor Kandy Brandy Wine over an Orion silver base. I then airbrushed some traditional hot rod flames on it and covered it in 4 coats of PPG Concept 2021 clear. Brian
  4. Here's a few Fords I've built. Brian Duece 3 window '37 Coupe '37 Sedan Delivery Stock bodied 40 Cut up 40 under construction And a shot of my 1:1 Ford rod, '36 Tudor sedan humpback
  5. I just shot some clear on a 1/12 scale Mustang yesterday and I had to try out the new digital camera I got for my birthday, so here's some shots of whats on my work bench. Brian The Stang sitting next to a 1/25 scale Willys I just finished painting black, I'm flaming the Willys next.
  6. I'm intrested in getting into 1/24, 1/25 scale drag slot cars, I know nothing about them. I've done a few custom paint jobs for other people that use my bodies for slots but I can never get any info from those people. I'm looking for any kind of info be it web sites, books, magazines or what ever. Any kind of information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Brian p.s. Here's a couple of models that I painted that are now burning up the slot drags.
  7. Thanks Gregg, To mask my flames off I use liquid masking material thinned down and I shoot it through my airbrush. And yes, my patterns are done freehand, no two of my flame jobs are the same. I've developed a new technique where I can get uniform flames the same pattern side to side, I'll show how I do it when I get a new how to done hopefully soon. Yes I painted the '06 Mustang that was at tne NNL East show, Bob Pettine purchased it from me and it even shows on his contest card that he gave me full credit for the paint work. I scratch built the cowl induction hood, painted the body color, flamed it and shot the clear. Bob did all the assembly work himself. Thanks again Brian
  8. I just knocked this '55 Chevy pro mod out over the weekend for a customer of mine. I believe it's going to see duty as a drag slot car. Paint is House of Kolor Kandy Burple over Orion silver and covered in flames. Brian
  9. I haven't shown any of my finished work here, I've only shown what I can do when I paint so here goes. This is the '37 Ford Coupe I built 3 years ago. Brian Here's a couple shots of my favorite Merc. Built this one back in '97
  10. Here's a few shots of a 40 Ford I've been cutting on for the last 5 or 6 years, I lost track of how long it's really been. This project started out as a just a quick build on an AMT Ford kit with a chop on the top and I was going to build it as a 50's style kustom. That changed drastically when I went to see what a set of Pegasus Chrome T's would look like under it. Now there isn't a panel that hasn't been cut , shaved or sliced on the whole car. Brian Here's a shot of my original concept I had when this one started.
  11. I posed this in another thread under the General topic, it's better suited for the tips column . Here's a link to a how to that I posted a few years ago on another board, David Lee saved it to his Fotki album and has been kind enough to let me share my tutorial using his album, if you click on each individual pic there you can read the text explaining my flaming process. Since I've done this how to I've fine tuned my technique and I will be coming out with a new and improved tutorial soon, when I get it done the Model Cars forum will be the first to know. Thanks Brian click here for the how to....... http://public.fotki.com/dlee61/reference_p..._nehring_flame/
  12. Hey Gregg, That's alright, I think we've all been there a time or two. Yeah this morning first thing I clicked on was this site just to find it gone. After lotsa deep breathing and my wife and the kids calming me down I was able to regain my composure(LOL). All kidding aside thanks for the forum and also a big thanks on a killer magazine, keep up the great work! Brian Nehring
  13. Hi Jairus I think it would be a great idea to have a slot car forum. I don't know a whole lot about them but I have custom painted quite a few hardbody drag cars for others and I've often thought about getting into the hobby. Brian Here's a shot of a Willys, Camaro and a Firebird funny car that I painted and were done for others to be used as drag slot cars
  14. Hey David, Great to see ya found your way here! Brian

  16. Hello all, My name is Brian Nehring, I live in a little hick town in the middle of North Dakota and I'm one of the very few in my area that build model cars. I mainly build street rods and kustoms with a few muscle cars and street machines thrown in the mix. one thing you will notice about me is I love painting, as long as there are flames involved. Brian
