  1. The only reason I said lawnmowers might be substandard is because a few years ago there was a televised talk with the owner of Snapper Mowers here in Georgia. i think the argument was he was backing out of a contract with Walmart because they wanted him to make a lower grade product for them, and he refused. Also, a co-worker of mine bought a John Dear riding mower at Home Depot. He went to the John Deer store right here in town for some accessories and got to talking with them about how he bought the tractor for $500 cheaper than they sell it. They showed him where to look at theirs and his. A lot of the parts are not the same gauge steel. They're the same parts but not as high quality. I'm sure you could google that Snapper thing. My wife says the jeans are different there as well. I'm sure that most of the stuff there is just cheaper because of volume purchasing. Ken

  2. My local hobby shop is 50 miles away, at least the one that sells plastic kits. There are 2 close but cater to R/C. I drive 50 miles to buy paint there, and cruise the clearance bench that's all. Only because they have a good selection, not a good price. The kits there are full retail or more. They'll rip your eyes out there. If I can get a good deal at Walmart I'm buying it. It's the same kit with the same parts. Some things are substandard at Walmart, like the lawnmowers. But not the model kits. The Budweiser there isn't 2%. All this here is quite entertaining, like the one a while back about someone saying they'll never use ebay because some of the sellers price the stuff too high. If I can get a good deal I'm going for it. Ken

  3. Finished up at $102.50 plus $15.00 shipping. Someone needs their head examined. I had an armor kit on there last week that retailed for over a 100 bucks and listed it for $50 and couldn't sell it. Had about 60 tire kickers and over a dozen watchers, and this stupid thing sells for over 100. Go figure. I guess it's in more demand or harder to come by than my Tiger tank. Ken

  4. I've bought spray cans of colors that I can't get in the bottle. Sometimes I'll shoot straight from the can, but most of the time I decant it into a jar and airbrush it. Don't be intimidated by an airbrush. Once you try it you probably won't go back. You have greater control with the airbrush. Buy something cheap or used and practice on a glue bomb. Ken

  5. I ship items all over the world as an extra income. I think the USPS does a darn good job, untill something gets out of the country. Then it's anybodies guess. That's why I'm hesitent to send some high dollar irreplacable antique part to Mosambique through USPS. They have no tracking out of the country. My Canadian customers recieve their items quite fast. Unfortunately if they ship to here it's a different story. Could grow a beard waiting for something. Just my 2 cents. Ken

  6. This is an update. Decided to design my own grill. Wanted something on the line of a 34 Ford. Took a few pieces of Rectangular evergreen strips and glued together in the shape that I wanted. Then sanded down to the right contour. I made the grill insert from piano wire. Right now it's all shiny, but will be weathered and dullcoated. Looking for some headlights to attach to either side. Now to make a radiator to go behind it. Ken

  7. I'll be there at 6:30 in the morning getting ready to help the vendors get set up. I'm a member of the club that sponsors the show, Atlanta Model Car Enthusiasts (ACME). If you've never been to the show you're missing quite an event. Revell will be there with some of the new releases. See you there!

  8. Got to see the Lonestar today (the model). One of the fellows at the club had built it and brought it in. I asked if he had ever seen one on the road. He said never. I look for this truck everytime I go out on the road, and have never seen one. Everyone that I talk to that knows about the truck has never seen one. What's up with that? I'm sure they exist. Are they rare birds? Have you seen one?

  9. I wheel and deal antiques and antique motorcycles and parts as a second income, more like a hobby as well. I don't do it as agressively as I used to. I usually use money from this for my plastic addiction (about 300 Kits). I also collect knives and guns. I have this thing that I do. If I sell a gun, that money goes into the gun kitty to purchase another one, same with models and knives, although I don't sell many models. Sometimes I combine my savings for one purchase. I try not to tap into the house money.
