  1. The only real hobby shop (that sells plastic) near me is 50 miles away. There is one close by, but he caters to r/c. I was in there a few months back and they had a shelf 4ft wide and 5ft tall with cars, armor, planes, ships and sci-fi on it. I told them they didn't have much of a selection, the woman behind the counter very nastily snapped back at me and said "that's a full variety, anything you could want is on those shelves". Needless to say I wouldn't even buy my super glue there. I go to Hobby Lobby with thier 40% coupon if they have what I'm looking for, and they have a decent selection but it never changes. Very rarely is there something new there unless it's a new release. So it's online after that. Ken

  2. I'm not an avid poster, but I will respond to things that I like, to ask questions, and to give advice when I can, but I'm just reading and looking most of the time. I'll probably come under attack for saying this, but it doesn't bother me, it's just how I feel. I post when I feel like posting and respond when I think approriate. I don't let it bother me. I feel the that most forums have groups that are made up of modellers who are very active in there posting. If you're someone with 2 or 3 posts you're not in the clique. For the most part if you post a model you won't get the same response as someone with 250-2000 posts. Some forums are worse than others. I think the worst one is finescale, especially in the aircraft forum. I've seen newcomers post amazing aircraft there and get 2 responses that say looks good or okay. Then one of the regulars slaps something together overnight and there are 14 pages of praise. Someone over there started a topic about this and the response was overwhelming, and people all agreed that if you were'nt part of the clique you wouldn't get much feedback. It is what it is. I like it here, I think it's a good healthy forum with tons of talent and knowledge. Like I said I don't respond to everything and I don't have a million posts, I don't have time to post everyday a few times a day. I have a hobby and I also have a fulltime job and a family that takes up a lot of my time. So, if you don't get a lot of responses to your post don't take it to heart. Just look at how many times it's been viewed, not responded to. Like I said I look more than post. Just my opinion. I've rambled on for way too long, good night all. Ken

  3. Here are 2 rats that I built a few years ago from my spare parts box pieces. They're a little dusty which just weathers them a little more. I also included a picture of my 1:1 ratrod. It's my 29 Essex, small block mopar, 9" ford rear, mustang II front end. Daily driver. KenDSCF0652.jpgDSCF0653.jpgDSCF0654.jpgDSCF0655.jpg

  4. To build the sub diorama I first made the wooden base and mounted the sub to it. Then I used plaster of paris to sculpt the basic water shape. I used a teaspoon and a butter knife and swirled it around to make the wakes and waves, kind of like spreading peanut butter. This was put aside to thoroughly dry. After it dried I airbrushed the plaster with the color I needed the water to be. I then coated the whole thing with Liquitex Gloss Medium, you can find this at Hobby Lobby or Michaels in the isle where the art supplies are near the tubed paints. I bought a jar that was about 8oz. I brushed this on, it has the consistency and look of very thick white glue or paste. Again I used the spoon. You can press the spoon down into it and pull up to make the crests on the waves. It goes on white but dries clear. After it was completely dry I used white paint to paint the foam and the wave crests. It takes a little practice to get the feel for it, just practice a little and you will get it. I bought that sub at a club meeting for 5 bucks. That was money well spent. Revell has redone this kit and I think it sells for about $35. If anyone has questions about his technique please ask. I'm off of the ships at the moment. Building a 53 Chevy lead sled and a Triumph drag car at the moment. Ken

  5. While I was out of work with a knee injury that ended with surgery I had to do something. I built these 2 ships that I had in my stash. I build just about anything, planes, ships, cars and armor. Even wooden ship models. The Cutty Sark is an Academy kit in 1/150 scale, and the HMS Bounty is the old Revell kit in 1/110. I was out for over 6 months and these 2 helped me pass some of that time. A little different from what I'm used to in this type of model ship as I would usually do a build like this in wood. Ken

  6. Okay I give up. How do you post photos from photobucket. I feel like an idiot. I've tried direct link, html code, and img code. Ive tried adding them with the insert image icon and directly. What am I missing. When I try to post from my computer direct it says the image is too large, although it let me post 3 pictures a few days ago. So I uploaded all my photos to photobucket. I'm new here and I see that there isn't a community assistance forum or a test forum. Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'm not new to this, I've posted many pictures on other forums before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  7. This is a progress update. I cut the wheel tubs from the floor pan of the donor kit and trimmed them down to p\fit into the smaller Triumph body. Then I shortened the floor pan to fit. I had to fabricate a foot well box for the drivers legs as the distance from the wheel tubs to the fire wall was way to small. The firewall was trimmed to fit the body snug. I then shortened the tubular frame to position the engine properly. The lower control arms had to be trimmed off and relocated for proper wheelbase. I'm going to have to scratch build the engine compartment trusses as the ones in the kit just won't work. Working on the rear suspension next.Copy2ofTR3dragcar006.jpgTR3dragcar004.jpgTR3dragcar013.jpgTR3dragcar014.jpgTR3dragcar017.jpgTR3dragcar018.jpg

  8. Hi all, I've been lurking around here for some time, and I think it's time I started posting. I was at a show last year and picked up a couple of oddball pieces. One of them was a Triumph TR3, just the body with exterior chrome and the interior tub. A glue bomb to boot, oh yeah it's a curbside model also. My buddy said "you could probably do something crazy with that". Well I started today. I'm pretty sure this is the Minicraft 1/24 TR3. I stripped the 20 layers of paint off of it and the chrome pieces just popped off. next I opened the hood. Then I looked for a donor car in my stash. Found it! Revell 57 Chevy Pro Sportsman. I'm really into this and will post pictures of progress as I go. I'm totally open to comments and ideas.
