Okay I'm into the build- I just got everything primed. It's an old tool and they cleaned it up but it still has a few issues. The chrome comes off real easy- it's thin. The doors are a real prob trying to scribe the lines around them-- good luck on that. The frame looks whacked out. I would have preferred a more "with the times" frame. I've been searching around and looking at Topolinos and it appears to be a 47 body, and with all the parts and tires and wheels it seems to represent a late 50's to before 62 car. It's a wierd class Altered I guess. The steering wheel looks out of scale and so do certain parts like the oil filter. There is no coil. The parts from the battery assy are there. It looks like you could flip the switch and it would move along and the pullies and fan belt would turn as the car rolled off the table. The two piece tires.... well they're two piece.! Anyway I 'll get out my Flip video and spend two weeks and take 2 pictures! That's a joke son!!!! There's more to complain about but what the heck- I like the model and I are going to built it. I'm workin' it into shape. It's going to be dark red body and gold engine- it should look Okay! I'm taking the paint scheme in a Hot Rod mag from an old rail of the early 60's with a chopped and shortened Cabriolet body.............white interior walls-- black cage- black frame--

Okay the fast food syndrome is upon this thread and I now give thanks for all the help. I know this is a photo driven site fer sure but I'm either too lazy to take pics of the build or my camera blows. I'll go with the camera thing. Once I get that down I'll post the pics but the truth is- I think most want to see the guys' stuff on here who are the "super builders" who have devoted themselves to producing extreme replicas.that "wow" the public. I must say those guys are on here !!!! My skills aren't quite up to that though!!!

Wow- that is nice. I have been into the Willys since my Dad drove one home one day in 1961 when I was 5 years old. He sold it to our neighbor a few weeks after he got it for 400 or 600 bucks! That was alot of cash in 61. The neighbor had it painted gloss black. He brought it home right after it got painted. It had a great shine to it so naturally I had to write my name with my finger on the fresh paint about 5 times. I got in deep trouble over that. I remember my Dad saying it had an Olds engine in it. I checked out your photos- your build kills mine!. I made the silver one after I saw a Willys pickup in a Hot Rod Deluxe mag. I don't know if you've ever seen it but man it is nice. It had a brake lever that was hooked up to the brake pedal so he could apply the brakes with his hand or foot. It had the blue windows too. I hadn't seen the 1/18 diecast for sale anywhere ( I don't look on line) for about 10 years. I found one a couple months ago at a flea market and snagged it up instantly. I guess those are getting rare. I plan on doing it up eventually. I'm just SE of Columbus near Canal Winchester. I've probably been thru your town- I used to drive big trucks. I've been all over Ohio many many times.

Not trying to hi-jack but I thought I was the only one with 2 of those. I guess not--mine are definately not as pretty as yours! These kits were really fun to build. I hope yours are too!

sorry - I've seen those kits before- can you familiarize me with it? What kit? What company? Thanks.

Okay I'll just rant on.... now I see the holes in the engine block and bell housing. I did a search to find any topics on this model but did not come across any. Maybe I searched the wrong threads/topics? BTW the headers look pretty funky sticking up like they do - so the challenge of making some new ones will be interesting. I'm betting this was not a popular kit by the time it was released and found it's way on to this site.. At a $50 price tag I have to wonder about the Fiat. It IS a lot of plastic and the price of plastic seems to go up all the time.. The black plastic is nice and glossy. The box is large. It's a very nice box. I actually like the Fiat kit and don't like it at the same time. What's with the fat frame and struts? I wonder what car and year this kit was modeled from? I wonder if I'll have spaghetti tonight?

This one has prob been talked about. I finished the Big D and started the Fiat 1'12. I'm not liking the tool too much. I can tell it's prob from the 60's because it appears to have the parts and tooling for the "motorized" version type kits from back then.. The chrome blows. It's thin and has crud under it. I don't like how the pipes go up in the air so I have to mod the steering to have them pointed down towards the dirt.. The plastic is brittle. I wonder if this one was sent to China molded over there? I didn't read the box. I'm building it anyway with a new dash and roll bars and intake and steering and more. Anyone comment on the kit and maybe tell me somethin' I don't know.-- ?

Finished Deuce 12/4- started Fiat 12/6- oh yeah.........

Has anyone built this kit? How old is the tool- ? What's up with the brittle plastic? How to scribe good lines in doors .?? There isn't much to go by. How do you rate this kit? I already broke the dash- it was warped- I barely moved it and "SNAP"! Nice-- I can make a dash though. I know this tool has to be old- it has glue together tires. It'd be nice to match up some tires from another kit. I know how to scribe door lines if there are some there but on this kit -- well --- not good. I guess I could make a plastic pattern and lay it on the side of the body and scribe around it-- anyone ever done that? I can see hours and hours of Fiat in my future. My daughter was with me at the Hobby Shop and I commented on the kit and she suprized me at Christmas last year with it.. She wants me to build it. She really couldn't afford the cash so I kind of want to do it for her -- The thing is that from my first real inspection the kit looks like a "cusser". The absolute worst thing so far is the 2 piece body. I've been on it with the putty and wet sand etc for two days now.. Okay thanks for listening. If this kit is the worst of my problems- I'm doing pretty good then.

Thanks Casey- I took care of it. I'm going to follow my build a bit on here in case someone is doing a 1/8 big Duce.. I think I should post some of the stuff I've figured out on my own. They don't put every detail in the instructions and only some experience has saved me. When building the front steering components and installing idler arms and spindle tops, brake drums ,etc- care should be taken as to make sure the camber and caster are correct and to NOT glue the brake drums to the spindle assy. . the grease cap will hold everything snug so the tires will roll . I put the tierod in place in the idler arm holes to keep things in proper angles while I worked on the steering- even though the directions don't call for doing that. I haven't done the rear drums and axle yet but I'm pretty sure it is designed to roll. Like I said there's no mention of what to glue specifically and what not to glue in the rolling stock . The instructions just show the placement of the parts. I'm makeing sure I test fit everything. Another thing is the scale of the brake tubing, oil tubing and fuel lines in relation to the scale of the rest of the kit. They look too big- I'm doing my best with matching up what looks in scale by checking out all my parts box solder. plastic rod, mini shrink tube etc.. One trick is to use a guitar string and shrink the mini tube down on it for small oil lines. I can also shrink the mini tube down on solder for good in scale looking results. This kit is fun to build. I'll prob do the big Fiat Dragster after I'm done with the Big Duce HiBoy RatRod. The Fiat is hanging out over on the shelf in the Man Cave.

Yeh that's where it came from but my seat comes from a 69 Torino so..... it's different !! HA! The coolest thing is the pump that's used to pump up pressure in the gas tank.. Nice. I think that lasted fo awhile. I'm pretty sure Garlits had the same thing on the Swamp Rat II and for all I know they could still have that going on somewhere..

These are the diecast Yat Mings that I stripped down and re-did and detailed. I hadn't seen these 41's for sale anywhere in years untill a couple weeks ago. I snagged up one for 35 at a Flea Market. I'm thinking about doing it up like these this Winter.

Wow ! Ask and yee shall recieve! I guess the carb post just about has anything I could possibly use to do my linkage- except the smell of gasoline. Can you post that too? I need it.

'57 Chevy Bel Air Convertible - 1/16 - Junk Car
Fender replied to Model Junkyard's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I love the 57 Chevy junker thing. I had to post a couple beaters I did about 15 years ago. They look better all the time now. They have been sitting out so long they have a nice layer of dust and cobwebs. I like what you're doin with your kit. I have the Model Car mag that has the roll up windows in it. Is that how you did yours? Anyway- I am look ing forward to seeing the kit as you do it--Nice!!!
