I like the ice effect on the windscreen of this truck Charles . . . I see from the registration number plate that this Scania is a UK vehicle.
You have some interesting techniques for icicles and frost effects. This is quite an unusual idea . . . I like it !
Would this be the Italeri 1:24 scale kit that you have used?
David
Hi David. The truck has a Swedish registration number plate. It is a Italeri 142H kit.

I decided to have another go at a winter scene. The scene is based on a real scenario but different truck. The icicles were made by holding clear sprues over a candle, and slowly pulling the two halves away from each other. The frost was made using Green Stuff Frost solution. Two methods you can use;
1. The cheapest, which is to mix salt in warm water with a drop or two of detergent; and pour it into a spray bottle and spray it on. It takes about 10-20 minutes to crystallize.
2. you can buy frost solution by Green Stuff. The icicles were made by holding clear spruce over a candle and pulling slowly until you achieve the desired length. Then it is just a matter of cutting the ends to the desire lengths. The snow was made by my usual standards as before, on the other DHL truck scene I did many months before.

OMG, Charles - how can you manage to create such wonderful, real-looking dioramas in this TINY scale? Unbelievable craftsmenship !
I ask myself the same question, but is more of how do I manage to work in that scale. It's not a scale for me. I did it as a challenge, by the manufacturer, who sent two versions free of charge. He wanted photos of them, as a promo.

Very nice little diorama, especially in such a small scale. The sloppy mud is very realistic. Great little build and your photography work is really good.
Glad you like the results. Thank you.

Hi Charles . . . I am currently 3D printing 37 parts for an O gauge steam loco for a diorama, which is 1:43 scale in UK and 1:48 scale in US.
Like you, I am more used to working in 1:24 or 1:32 scale.
David
Hi David. Well, at least, that scale is bigger than what I was working on.

A few of those shots could pass for real.
Quite a scale to work in. I know because I build 40K and smaller resin figures.
I am so used to working, in bigger scales but the offset of smaller scale is always a challenge.

1:87? Wow, Charles that is superb! It is also referred to as HO Scale in the model railroad community. 😉
Thank you. Yeah. I knew that. Just sounded more intriguing saying, 1:87.

Such detail and weathering in 1:87 scale Charles . . . Your close up camera work is very good here. I find that my older Kodak M340 digital camera is much better for this type of photography than a modern mobile phone, and you can still pick them up on Ebay for a very reasonable price in UK.
The iPad camera is of course really good, just like iPhone, but more expensive !
David
Thank you David for the tips. Glad you liked the build.

I would've never known this was 1/87th scale. Great job on this! And I think your pictures are great too.
Thank you Tony. I still need a new camera phone, though.

I have been working on the second SBAT model, TGB 40 from 'Swedish Model Works'. Yes, its a 1:87 scale, too darn small for my taste, yet interesting. This is the 3-axle brother to the TGB 30 from the same company, I did awhile back. I wanted to do something that will make the TGB 40 feel at home. Mud and more mud, was the theme of this little vignette. So I wanted to do it some justice. My apologies for my camera. I need to buy a new phone, although, reluctant, but my camera is not as effective as it was in the beginning. So please bear with me. I've taken both outdoors and indoors photos. Thanks for looking.

Such an impressive display. Ultra-realistic, especially with the lighting. Can’t help but think how fantastic it would be in 1/25 scale as a backdrop diorama for photos of big rig models. Of course, it would be huge, but incredibly useful for a display.
Thanks Vincent. I and others have contemplated the idea many times. But as you mentioned, the size is a killer, if you do not have the space to fit a 1:24 scale version. A nice thought though.

Updated this diorama just before the client picked it up. I added lights and and some other minor details(unfortunately you cannot see in the photos). Here are some photos of the lighting effect and an interior photo to extend to give the illusion that the interior of the hall(diorama) extends beyond.

Even after all this, I still needed the urge to make some changes. I decided to cover the rest of the concrete facade(second building to the right) in ribbed sidings. I think it will give it a more industrial look as well as fit in with the first building to the left.

Outstanding realism. Very impressive. I thoroughly enjoyed checking out the subtle details. You know you are achieving realism when, looking at the photos, subtle details go at first unnoticed because everything just looks so natural.
I totally get it. Appreciate your detail analysis and your overall outlook on the diorama as a whole.

The detail such as the litter and plant growth at the back corners of the loading bays . . . Exceptional !
You must have enjoyed photographing this model, and that is on top of the sheer satisfaction of having assembled and painted the diorama.
David
Thank you David. Yes. Satisfaction guaranteed. Most definitely. Glad you approve.

I was giving the task of building a industrial truck dock/bay diorama for a customer, and this is what I put together. The buildings were made from xps pick and blue foam. The doors were made from styrene. The HVACs and lighting fixtures were 3D modeled by a friend using photos of real flood lights I found on the internet. The conduits were scratch built. The dimensions are 100 x 60cm. I have painting of the dock numbers and attaching of the batteries to the different light fixtures.
