  1. Yep that is pretty cool; it's a Home Depot creation. You should see all the activity that goes on with the other airplanes when that thing is on. LOL
  2. Bruce be sure a post some pictures of your race car build, I'm a race car nut and also an ex UNR Wolfpack football player from the 60s.
  3. A 1/4 Top Fueler would be a room size,LOL. I love the big scale but I have one room, where I work, to display my builds and it is filling up. Here's a shot from awhile back and there's been a lot added since.
  4. What ever it is, it's very interesting. Great story too. Thanks for posting this, Doug.
  5. David; great work, I love it. One question is what do you do with these big cars when you're done. It's a problem I have and am curious what others do. Thanks, Ken
  6. Derrick; I'm blow'n away by your talent. I love race cars and man, you're building a great one. Thanks for posting this masterpiece. Ken
  7. Those are neat cars and you don't find that many guys out there building classics like that. Perhaps you should build one. I believe there are some great kits available or atleast bodies, frames and motors. I have found Squadron Pruducts fast drying white putty or green putty the best for most applications. Be sure to post your build; I'll be looking foward to seeing it. Ken
  8. I agree, the spolier needs to shorten up to look right, maybe slightly lower than the roof. Thanks. Ken
  9. Thanks John and Jeff. I thought I should make a pattern, out of poster board, for the body before I ruin a bunch of styrene sheets. I have not seen these types of cars run much except on Tv and a few shows I've been to, so I'm sort of building by pictures. These dirt cars are the same ones that the Indy car, NASCAR and NHRA hot shot drivers race, once a year at Tony Stewart's Prelude To The Dream at Eldora Speedway in Ohio. They also run these at most dirt tracks across the country. Ken
  10. Here it is with some RC tires, just to get a feel for the way the car will sit.
  11. The chassis is finished and I'm going to start the suspenion. Huge model; measures 25" long and 9" wide.
  12. Great stuff Dave; you get an A+ today. We all enjoy your work. for sure. Ken
  13. I'm glad some of you are enjoying this build, thanks. I've got the front A arm brackets, body mounts and rear shock and spring mounts on. Compared to the sprints and midgets I've done, this is a big car.
  14. A little more progress. It made with styrene tube and about 1/3 of it is solid rod. After all the components are together it's really quite strong and will hold the wieght of the model.
  15. I'm going to try and build a dirt late model based on a Rocket chassis in 1/8 scale. I know a lot about sprints and midgets but not that much about stock cars so it will be interesting. Here's the beginning.
  16. Been building these darn planes instead of finishing up that midget. Next project, though will be a dirt late model.
  17. I use styrene for everything on the frame other than the main rails which are aluminum tubing. You just have to epoxy the styrene to the aluminum for a good connection. Once all the pieces are together it's strong and light wieght.
  18. Thanks guys and weasel I have been to a few indoor midget shows at the Cow Palace in San Fransico, back in the day. I've, for the most part, been around midgets all my life and they did run some of those outboards back in the 50s. I called them Smokey Joes because of the trail of smoke they left. The Offys were the best motors though. Ken
  19. I'm with Dave. TDR is also working on midget suspension parts, tires and wheels and a body for their 4 bar chassis. I'm sure, besides the dragster and midget stuff they are doing other projects. I have found them to be Top Shelf all the way and plan on building one of their midgets as soon as all the different parts are done.
  20. That is a great looking model car. I would be proud, if I'd built that.
  21. Looks good, Syd. What material have you decided on doing the seat out of ?
  22. Now that is cool. The car and the model.
  23. I'm making progress on the midget. Made the headers, oil cooler, ignition system, seat and have the front and rear axle set permently. I modified the body at the cowl to be more like the pictured car.
  24. Speaking of toys ( I was ) I am also biuilding another balsa wood airplane. This is my 2nd and I like them but they are a bit challenging with that whole tissue for skin thing. Anyway this is a Bee Gee, one of my favorites
