The master cylinder, made from a muffler and some Evergreen. The front spindles and brakes. The rotor/calipers are from Crazy Scale Auto Parts. I simply drilled out the holes that are molded in.

That's got a great stance. I'm diggin the roof so far.

That's a cool idea. Is that a Revell parts pack engine? -
I was racking my brain trying to figure out some sort of remotely believable steering box set up. Then it popped into my head, why not use a Sprint Car style box. So this is what I have so far. When you turn the wheels, the linkage moves also. Too bad I can't figure out how to get the steering wheel to move with it. Turning right, Turning left. Next is a brake master cylinder and I'm done mocking up the frame. Wait, didn't I say that a couple of times already?

Have you tried Jimmy Flintstone? -
I had to take a 1/4" out of the headlight bar to give room for the front wheels to steer. I'm trying to somewhat copy the Corvair nose with this piece, it needs a little more work, but it's close. Here's where we're at as of now.

The application has nothing to do with what you use to apply it, it has to do with what type of paints you are talking about. Urethanes, Laquers, Enamels or Acrylics? You will learn very quickly that not cleaning an airbrush after using it WILL eventually bite you where the sun don't shine. I would suggest a Paasche VL kit or an H for a beginner, although personally I think single action airbrushes ( the H model) are a waste of time unless you never intend to do more than use it as you would a rattle can. These two Paasches are pretty much bulletproof.

Just testing if I can post a video, and showing off a paintjob. The paint on this changes from gold-copper-orange-red-purple-blue-green depending on the angle of the light source. You have to click on the image to view the video. The quality of the video isn't that great, but you'll get the idea.

I guess we need to find our way home from the cruise nights, so lights would be a good thing. The Crazy Scale Auto Parts quad headlights are very close to the Corvair Headlight buckets, I just need to add the turn signals underneath. Again, I have no idea where this is going, but I like it so far.

The shocks in the rough stage.

It looks like I'll be able to fit a set of coil-overs on the front after all. Here's what I've got so far.

An under shot that shows the mounts for the tray and cell.
-
I did a little more work on the frame, a battery tray and the start of a fuel cell. I doubt it will get far with two small blocks, but it's a showrod, how far does it have to go? I think all that is left for the frame is the front shocks and springs. Once again I have no clue as to how I'll pull them off, there is not much room for them. Maybe some sort of torsion bars?

I bought the Hobby Design photo etched Car Harness kit. It doesn't come with any instructions. Does anyone know how to assemble the parts or have a picture that would show them done?

I just got my order and I must say it was a pleasure to deal with Jim. The parts look great, came fast with very reasonable shipping costs. Jim also was extremely quick with returning e-mails. Now to put these parts to use! Thanks again. -
The two outer headers are built, now to figure out what to do with the inner ones.
-
I started working on the engines and headers. I have one side started, it's made from .080 rod. I'm not sure if this one will work, it's hanging pretty low.

If it's a "Water Pumper" I guess we need a place to pump the H20 to don't we. I pirated a radiator from a 57 P.U. and mounted it to the frame in the back. I also opened up the vents in the rear decklid. Now to find a electric fan for it and make new fittings for the hoses. I wanted to make a shroud that fit tight to the body just under the vents, but I would have to redo the back of the frame and move the pivot points back further for the body to still flip without hitting the radiator. So much for planning ahead.

That is absolutely gorgeous. You definitely have some skills and this build is proof of that. -
I was hoping to do a custom gauge pod of some sort, but it seems a dash from a 65 Vette looks good in there and with a little work will blend into the armrest/console thingy I put in there. I stole the seats and steering wheel from the same kit. I have some billet style steering wheels coming, but I think the Vette wheel will work better and keep a 60's feel to the car.
-
I forgot one thing, the body flips up like a funny car to show off the frame.
-
Got some work done on the body. You can now see the reason for the name of this build. Here is what I started with, a resin 61 Corvair dirt modified body. First step was to cut notches at the top of the wheelwells and add some wedges to straighten out the body. the Modified body is bent at the wheelwell. I cut the roof off, added some Evergreen to the back of the roof and to the tops of the openings for the side windows to get it back to the shape of a normal Corvair, then I cut the A pillars down about 3/16" and moved the roof back about 1/4". I also cut some 1/4" round tubing into a quarter of the radius to fill the top of the front, made a new firewall and filled the rear wheelwells. I also called my buddy Lucious Fox over at Wayne Enterprises and had him make me up a custom engine coupler that houses the flywheels and clutch. He is also making me a trans that will mount to the pumpkin on the rear. It pays to have friends. The only problem, shipping from Gothom City is expensive! Here's how she sits as of now.

That won't be a problem.
