If you do it, you gotta send me a pic of it. I would love to see it on a 1:1.

Thanks for all the compliments! I was dreading this step since the beginning of the build. The headers for this were a royal pain to build and for some reason I just knew I was going to screw them up when it came time to mount them. So far,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I was wrong, the first side went on easy as pie. Now if I didn't just jinx myself for the other side. I'm running out of things to do on this.

Getting the driver situated. I built a rollbar and fuel lines from the filler cap to the interior panels (not shown and can't be installed until after the back window is in). Hey, what are you looking at?

You mean someone beat me to it? Now stop yakking and start building! -
What good is a Stingray if it cant breathe, it need gills right? So out went the vents and I built some gills for it. I also opened the vents at the bottom, but decided I would like it better without them so they got filled back in completely. I also thought the front looked too nice, so I figured I'd make a mess of it. And what it looks like with a little sanding. I guess if we have headlights, taillights would be appropriate. The bezels and lenses are stock 65 Vette pieces. If the bottom looks crooked to you, that's because it is. I really need to start measuring things rather than by eye. This will be fixed.

Round two with the filler.

The upper half of the pods are glued in place. I also moved the rear wing from the back to the top of the car. Starting on the interior. The undertray of the Lola needed to be widened quite a bit. I also modified the front suspension to make steerable front wheels.

OK a little rundown of what's happened so far. I started at the back, the rear panel was cut out completely. Then the rear "bullets" were cut off and saved. The rear quarters were cut starting under the side windows following the base of the V in the roof to the where the bullets were and discarded. The sides were brought in the meet the v shape of the roof and needed to be extended to reach the point in the back. The bullets and the rear wheelwells were filled. The doors got some slices in them to help bend the quarters into place. Now it's time to tackle the front. Starting at the center of the back window, to the front of the body. I removed about 1.5" at the front, 0 at the back. I had to make a slice along the front and rear winshields and add a filler to the front and remove some from the back to get the contour of them back to what they should be. the front wheelwels are also filled. I removed the center of the nose to cure the same thing with the windshield, it will go back in later. Same pic as before. And this one only gets one engine. Now where did I leave that Lola T-8800 at? Oh yeah, there it is, let's start grafting this baby together. The top has an angle chop, the back of the roof is stock height. You can see the triangle shaped filler in the front of the roof that was needed to get the opening back into shape and the filler in the back that was needed to fill in for the chop.. The rear bullets have been reattached also. At this point the side pods are in their initial fitting. I don't mind saying, fitting and mating the Indycar to the Vette, was a trial in patience and a whole lotta work.

Thanks, but you ain't seen nuthin yet! Good eye, it's a Monogram 65.

Fresh out of the booth. I put the tiniest drop of the yellow pearl into the clear just to add a little sparkle to the white without going overboard.
-
I just finished the last coat of clear, I'll try to get a couple of pics up later. Ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Shiney!

Try using a smaller diameter tubing for the cap/body of the distributor and use a round jewelers file to open the hole in the center to fit your plug wires.
-
The color is done on the body, I'll clear it tomorrow. I took a risk, set it on the frame and dropped the roof onto it for some pics. I hope you like it.

Well once again I lied, I started painting a day early. The roof came out OK, but the airbrush spit on the main body. As soon as it dries enough, I'll sand it and finish the yellow. Here's a shot of the roof.

The white base is done, I'll wait till Sunday to mask and spray the yellow.

OK, so I lied about the last update being my last update before paint. Here's a couple of shots with the rally stripes laid out. In my vision of this car, it completes the look I wanted perfectly.
-
I will be finishing up the sanding on the inside of the body tonight, the outside looks like it needs 1 spot fixed and we will be painting. If my plotter will cut small enough, it's getting the rally stripes, if not a white roof and yellow body will work. The last update pics before the paint.

The wheelie bars are painted in Alclad. Now that the roof will be removable I will have access to the headliner and the dashboard, two things that I was worried about once it came time to paint and detail. Now that I do have easy access to these parts, I thought it would be good to add some details. I added some ribs to the headliner that will be done in Alclad while the headliner will be flocked. Here's a few pics. With a little luck, I'll be painting the body this weekend. I'm torn between yellow (the chassis color that photographs green ) with a white roof, or yellow with some SS style rally stripes.

The wheelie bars are ready for paint. They won't be permanently mounted, they have pins that fit into holes on the rear and are somewhat spring loaded, so they snap into place. The wheels are from a Hotwheels car. I'm still looking for something smaller, but I can live with these if I have to. I also pinned the roof so it too can be removed and be topless for those sunny days. Now that the roof will stay on, I finally get to see the whole body flipped open. I think It's pretty cool looking.
-
I think this is the last of the body mods, tailights, license plate box and the Vette bumpers. I know it's not much of an update, but it's all I got.
-
The vents were molded very deep, all I had to do was sand the underside until the vents were open. I'm not a surgeon, just a pinstriper, sign & custom painter. I also topple foreign governments on the weekends.
-
A pic with the Vette bumpers somewhat in place. I'll reccess a plate in the center and maybe some sunken bullet tailights.
-
With the back of the car sitting so high, and the back of the 'Vair being somewhat bland, the rear of the car looked too bare. To remedy that, I found a set of 65 Vette bumpers fit very close to perfect and breaks up the back nicely. Now about that void under the rear pan,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, how about some wheelie bars? That fills it in nicely.
