  1. When I was a kid, I learned about auto products from race cars and from model kits. Goodyear, Firestone, Autolite, Purolator and so on. So when I needed a set of spark plugs I went seeking Champions or Autolites because I knew those producrs from the decals that came with model kits and seeing the stickers on race cars.

The idea of royalties to replicate the products in minature is ridiculous to me. It should be considered free advertising and a form of flattery. Everyone wants to have a piece of the revenue now and all it does is negatively effect the hobby. A hobby that is advantageous to automakers and accessory makers alike. It would be a trademark infringment if someone was copying the product, the model companies are not competing with Firestone or Goodyear, they are merely paying tribute to them. They should not have to pay royalties on that.

You can't stop the greed these days, sad where we have gotten to.

  2. I am a NASCAR modeler, I have a lot of NASCAR kits and build when I feel the need. I put 2 of the snap, pre-painted CoT kits together, not too exciting. I am for Revell getting back into the NASCAR kits, even if I have no interest in buying any. Some one will buy/build, if there is a kit available.

I am not a fan of what NASCAR itself has evolved into and the way the cars are today. Same can be said of most types of racing though. Race cars have become so aerodynamic and so dependent on the wings and air dams and such that the whole spirit is gone from the racing we had in the mid-'60's for example. Sports cars, Indy cars, F-1 cars, drag cars...all are too high tech to be all that interesting. The average fan, or potential fan has no idea what is going on with that car of today. It does not relate to any car we understand or drive. NASCAR became popular because the fans related to the cars. The current cars, no matter how they try to dress them to look like real cars, are still just not close enough to a real car to be interesting to many of us.

I am much more excited to have kits of the '57 Ford Custom sedan and the '50 Olds coupe. Loved the Hudson kits too. Build the NASCAR kit Revell and there are builders that want them and it will add to the options of any modeler.

  3. That could be because there is a replica Flock car (1:1) around that is a very light powder blue, that car is a '48-50 Hudson and not the '52. From pics I have seen, it was pointed out to me that the car was lighter than Southern Blue but not as light as the replica car. One builder used Bali Blue a '51 hudson color and it looks like the shade it should be. Then who really knows about the old, old cars anymore!

  4. I have started using Scalefinishes paints. Most are acrylic enamel, gloss paints. It is not recommended to paint over bare plastic but they do not require a lacquer primer. I have painted over a previous Testor's enamel paint and gotten perfect results. They come pre-thinned and are the original paint codes as this is regular automotive paint.

Great service as well. They can be purchsed online and are well worth a try. My next project is a '52 Hudson stock car racer with two tone colors. Scalefinishes has the correct paints for the Hudsons as well.

BTW, I have tried almost all types of paints over the years and always end up with the enamels being the easiet to deal with.

  5. Here is 5 I would like to see done..

    Cobra Daytona Coupe, full detail

Ford GT-40 Mk I, with full detail, not the out of proportion ones that IMC did, a new tool

Oldsmobile '77 442, NASCAR version, it was THE racecar for several years

64-67 Ford 4-cam powered Indy car kit, new tool of a Lotus or Lola would be nice to have

    48 Packard, maybe a convertible

We may see one of these, some are probably a reach!

  6. I have not had a serious problem with the USPS, I am merely pointing out that it seems ineffcient to send a package to somewhere in California, several hundred miles one way for sorting and then back to Arizona. That has to add to the cost of doing business. I seem to recall the USPS complaining of losing billions of dollars. If they treat every package that way, surely they have added to their operating costs.

As far as picking it up, both Phoenix and Scottsdale actually cover several hundred square miles, so although the city limits may be 5 miles away, my kit may have been 40 miles. With the cost of fuel it would not be a cheap trip.

  7. This is related, I think. I bought a kit on ebay on the 29th of November from a seller in Scottsdale, AZ. Scottsdale is 5 miles from my house as the crow flies. Check out the tracking on that package...oh and I have yet to recieve it, Monday should get me my kit! It is easy to see how the USPS is losing money.

  8. Got around to mailing my envelope today. I have to say thanks again to Moebius for the special service. It shows the dedication to the customer when they make the extra effort to correct a minor decal error. I am looking forward to the NASCAR Hudson, the Chysler 300 and anything coming down the pike from Moebius. Great company and unique subjects. Thanks Dave and all at Moebius.

  9. Nice one. I too am not a JJ fan and the wing is funky looking. Seeing how nice your's came out it makes me almost regret not buying the one I saw today at Hobby Lobby for $8.99 on clearance. I did make a Dale Jr. one and a Jeff Gordon, got them on the $14.99 deal.

  10. I have been lurking for some time now and finally decided to join the forum. I have to say I have seen some very inspirational work here. I also thank all for the information keeping me up to date on what is in the future.

I am really looking forward to some of the 2012 kits. Looks like another great year ahead. I am presently working on a '57 Chevy Black Widow OOB and a '53 Hudson Hornet OOB. Both super kits.

I am also getting the desire to finally start a Fujimi Ford GT-40 Mk1, LeMans winner. I will be asking for some advise on that one, I am sure.

Wanted to say HI and keep up the great work!
