  1. Never seen a picture of one either? Do you figure the guys making the masters are just faking it???
  2. I assume you're being sarcastic. But really... if your job is to create an accurate scale representation of the real thing, why not do that? I realize we're not talking world peace or the cure for cancer here... we're talking about that tiny little sliver of the world that all of us share an interest in. That being the case, and realizing that our little group here is totally insignificant in the "big picture," I still ask why can't they just get it right?
  3. You can also see that the "kickup" of the chrome strip is much more steep on the real car (more like a 45 degree angle) and the upper horizontal strip is much farther up on the door... there's much more space between the trim strip and the top of the armrest. Also the vertical size of the "squares" on the door panel are the same in the two horizontal rows on the real car, and totally different on the model. Why do such obvious mistakes keep appearing on models? Attention to detail is obviously missing. Seems kind of strange that a company that's producing a "scale model" wouldn't pay more attention to what they're doing. If we can all see the mistakes, why couldn't the people who created the kit see them? Sure, you can brush it off and say that models have always been inaccurate in one way or another... but the bigger question is... why???
  4. I'm not saying that cash prizes are good or bad... I'm just asking for your opinions. I'm interested to see what you guys that enter contests think of the idea. Personally I couldn't care less one way or the other, I don't enter contests.
  5. Since I've never entered a model contest, I'm curious... have any of you ever entered a contest where the prize(s) were actual cash money? Do any such contests exist? Related question: For any of you who enter contests: would cash prizes make you any more apt to enter such a contest, as opposed to a typical contest where the prizes are plaques/trophies? Related question: Would you be interested in entering a contest that had a fairly high entry fee (say $50 for the sake of argument), but a certain percentage of that fee went into the "prize pot" and cash prizes were awarded to the winners?
  6. What about if the beanies had propellers? Pretty cool...
  7. Yeah... retirement!!!
  8. Ok, the name of this one is "Presidential limousine"... But seriously, giving you clues defeats the whole point! It's not about finding the photo I used... it's about looking at the photo and trying to tell, by looking at the photo, if it's a real car or a model. It's about recognizing the visual clues, not going on an internet scavenger hunt. Obviously if you find the same exact photo, you'll know the answer, but that's not really the point of this. And to echo what Bob said... a CG image is neither a real car OR a model... it's an illustration, and I don't use those here. Yes, the photos I do use are sometimes retouched (not by me), but I try to find "real" photos as much as I can.
  9. Final vote: 44-13 REAL. And you're right! It's the real deal! Next ROM coming MONDAY!
  10. Hmmm... it's going to be hard to offend you... Maybe you'd like to be known as "theologically indifferent?" I guess if you post a photo of your work and I say "What in God's name were you thinking when you built that?"... it really wouldn't faze you... Hoo boy... ain't we got fun here?
  11. Would a guy who stole a car be guilty of "vehiclar ownership reassignment?" Would a "slack-jawed yokel" now be known as a "mandibularly challenged ruralist?" Would a "clueless blonde" now be a "reality-challenged person of the fair-haired persuasion?"
  12. "Political Correctness" is defined as using euphemistic language that attempts to "correct" more direct but "objectionable" language. Objectionable to whom? Depends on which group you talk to... there's something that offends everyone. A perfect example of PC language: the new practice of referring to a suspect in a criminal investigation as a "person of interest,", just so we don't possibly "offend" the bum by calling him a suspect. Another example: Referring to a lazy student as "motivationally challenged." When I was a kid your teacher might have told your parents that you weren't working hard enough in class. These days you're "motivationally challenged." Another example: We used to refer to handicapped people as handicapped people. Somehow the word "handicapped" became "offensive," so now we must say "Physically challenged." The entire idea of using euphemistic double talk to avoid "offending" anyone seems pretty silly to me. Oops, I mean "rationally challenged."
  13. Geez... that's a pretty upscale car for a high school kid to be driving!
  14. Beautiful, man... just beautiful! Sounds exactly how some government bureaucrat would have written it! That last sentence is too funny, I love it!
  15. The problem with that approach, IMO, is that nobody will grow and improve as a modeler. If the only feedback we ever give is positive, and if we pretend not to notice any problems or bad technique, how is someone who obviously has a ways to go as a modeler ever going to learn, refine his/her skills and become a better modeler? Are we really doing that person a favor by handing out false praise? Totally hypothetical example, I'm not referencing any particular build, but just making a point: Someone posts photos of a model that has hand-painted chrome trim done in silver paint, and the brushwork is fairly sloppy. Which reaction would ultimately serve that person better? A. "Nice build, you really nailed it, good job," etc. B. "Next time try using BMF to do the chrome trim... there's a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it you'll never brush paint your chrome trim again... with foil you'll get a much more realistic look, and straighter lines than you can achieve by brush painting the chrome trim with silver paint. If you have any questions, just ask... there are plenty of people here who can give you some pointers." See what I mean?
  16. That is an excellent question... especially since this is a newly-tooled kit! What's up with that???
  17. http://www.ehobbies.com/alc5114.html It's not exactly the same look as chrome plated parts, but it's close... and much cheaper.
  18. The link in his first post doesn't work, use the link he posted the second time.
  19. Man, there's a lot of great stuff on your website!
  20. So.... is this one going to be an all-new tool or a re-issue?
  21. Hmmmm... where did you get the idea for that???
  22. Constructive criticism: "Looks like the tubing you used for the roll cage is a bit small... you might want to step up a size or two for a more realistic look." Political correctness: "It seems that the tubing you used for the roll cage is circumferentially challenged...you might want to consider an increase in the radial measurement aspect in order to achieve a more prototypically-adherent reality."
