Anybody use white glue for a fillet?
Harry P. replied to Len Woodruff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Some 2-part glazing putty would work for that. -

Not from me, this car doesn't appeal to me. -

Obviously you haven't read my posts before you commented on them. I never said anything about this kit being a "turd," what I said was that it could have been engineered in such a way as to accommodate the chrome trim without relying on stickers. And I also said that aside from the chrome stickers, the kit is very well done. Next time you want to call me out on something I've said, at least know what it is that I said before you decide to pop off. -

That all depends on what the expectations were, I suppose. I'm sure Galaxie had a number in mind when they released this kit. Did the kit sell as well as expected? If so, obviously a win for Galaxie. -

Which, if true, only serves to bolster Mark's argument that this kit was the answer to the question that nobody asked... -
Looks great, but I have to disagree with what you did on the exhausts. The rectangular exhaust outlets on the real car complement the horizontal theme of the taillights and rear panel, the round exhausts fight the overall design. But that's just my opinion...

"I got some heat from readers who wanted to see more cars from the forties. Although no particular body style was specified, the '47-48 Chevy was the choice of those who favored the forties." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yeah, but the question is... how many people wanted cars from the fourties? If several thousand readers were clamoring for a subject from the fourties, that's one thing, if a few hundred wanted it, that's a whole different story. So to say that the '47-'48 Chevy was the choice of those who favored the fourties may be true enough... but that's not the whole story in context. -
Final vote: 60-9 Real. You guys are getting too good at this. It's REAL! Next ROM coming MONDAY!

What I said is that it seems like a last-minute decision. As in "appears to be" or "looks like." And I'll concede the point... I shouldn't have worded it that way. But if Galaxie did consider all avenues, why did they decide on stickers instead of molded pieces? Obviously one of the "avenues" would have been to mold the detail onto the fenders and give the builder the option of removing it if they wanted to. An "upscale" kit like this should offer the builder every chance to build an accurate model. And mylar (or metal, or whatever) stickers just don't cut it. Look, man, I'm not here to pick a fight with you. I'm just calling it like I see it. You can agree or disagree with my opinion, that's perfectly fine... but no need for the personal attacks. -

Metal, mylar... that's totally beside the point. What the stickers are made of isn't the issue... the issue is that the trim could have been done in a better way. And Jairus... you obviously can't be unbiased on this subject, can you? I say we both have a right to "flap" our keyboards... -
Very nice! And nice photos, too!

I, for one, agree 100% with Mark. Marcos, this takes nothing away from your very well-done model, but I agree with Mark that a model car should be accurate. I really don't see why, with today's technology, the model companies can't come up with a model body that's correct and faithful to the original. Please, don't tell me about the "limitations" of the injection molding process. Like Mark points out, if JoHan could do it 40 years ago, why can't it be done today? The answer, of course, is that it can be done... but for some reason it isn't being done. Again, this is not a knock on Marcos' model... just a commentary on the kit makers.
-
Hey Marcos, I hope you're sitting down, buddy... because I'm about to be "brutally honest" with you... Body inaccuracy aside (if any; I won't comment on that), this is one fantastic looking model! Well done! (See..."brutally honest" isn't always a bad thing!)

Just so you know, "cranium" isn't a synonym for "head." But nice try.

I don't mean to slam the guy, just to point out the fact that he could get a much better result if he was a little more careful. Sorry I didn't "PC" my comment enough. Yeah, I could have been "nicer," I guess. But I still stand by what I said. And if we were all being honest, I think there are plenty of others who would agree with what I said, but don't want to "offend" anyone, so they don't say anything. In my opinion, if you post your work publicly, there is an implicit understanding that we can comment on what we see. I know some people here will always say "looks good" or "great job" or whatever, but I don't think handing out false praise does people any good. Yeah, maybe he reads my comment and thinks I'm a jerk... but maybe he thinks I'm a jerk but also does a better job next time. In my opinion that's worth more to him in the long run than a bunch of "nice work, dude" type posts.

Yeah, I guess nit-picking an overall nicely done kit isn't going to change anything; it just bugs me that this kit wasn't thought out a bit better before the tools were cut. But overall, I also would like to see more from Galaxie. -
I was involved in an auto accident
Harry P. replied to Jason Vandergriff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interstate trucking isn't supposed to be conducted for "fun" by guys doing 100 in a semi on public highways. A guy who thinks that's a good way to have his "fun" would be better off in his basement playing video games, not endangering others on public roads. Sorry to rant, but in all my years of driving I've been involved in a few accidents, one of which totaled my car. In EVERY case, the other driver was at fault, and I was the "victim." I don't have much tolerance for yahoos behind the wheel having "fun" at my expense. -

The kit could have been engineered so that the fenders are separate, like on the real car. The fenders could have had the chrome trim molded in place, allowing the builder to decide whether to keep the trim or sand it off. When you tool up a brand new kit from scratch, especially one aimed at adult modelers, "sweating the details" should be part of the process. The addition of the mylar stickers to replicate the chrome trim seems like a bad last-minute decision. The kit should have been better engineered in the first place, and since it was designed to offer the builder the option of building several different model year and trim level cars, the trim/no trim issue should have been worked out. Seems odd that they went to so much effort to get the kit right in terms of detail, yet they totally blew it on the fender trim. -

So flat 2-dimensional mylar stickers look realistic??? Stickers that don't even work all that well??? The chrome trim should have been on the chrome tree... no slots or recesses needed on the fenders for placement. This kit was obviously intended for adult builders... pretty sure they could handle gluing some chrome trim in place without "help." Better yet, include both styles of fender, with and without chrome trim. An extra set of fenders would not have broken the bank, seeing as how the whole kit was new from the ground up anyway. I mean, if they can do multiple grilles... Or better yet, mold the chrome trim on the fenders and let the builder decide whether to keep it, or sand it off. -

18-wheelers can't do 100, they all have governors to limit their speed. -

Well, since he lists it as a '40 Beatle, it would have to be either John or Ringo. -

Should have been separate chrome pieces. -
You would have a much more realistic stand if you used either round or square styrene rod to build the stand and paid more attention to clean joints... not just slapping it together. Just my 2¢...

Kind of odd that you would pick a funny car to do as a slammer... the one type of car where the chassis and engine detail is the whole ballgame!
