what color dominates your builds?
Ramfins59 replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I try to paint my models in various colors and not get hung up on one color. I've been all over the color spectrum with my 50's cars, especially when doing 2 tones. When I google research pictures of cars I'll keep looking until I find a color that appeals to me on a particular car. -
Patina Trucks

How's this one for "Patina"...??? I call this '34 Ford my Junkyard Dog. -
That is a nice looking Chevy Craig.

Too many projects going on.
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Teddy, thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad that you enjoy some of my posts. You're absolutely correct about the "madness" about not being able to find something that you know you have, or recently saw, but can't remember where. I try to keep "like parts" in their own separate drawer in a rolling parts bin that I have right next to my workbench. It has 5 good sized drawers, 1 - for wheels & tires, 2 - for engine & chassis parts, 3 - for interior parts, 4 - for clear & clear red parts & sprue pieces, and 5 - for body parts, fenders, etc. My aftermarket stuff is also separated by category, brakes, distributors, engine parts, exhaust parts, hoses, interior parts, lights, sets, misc. trim pieces, special wheels/hubcaps, and wire. Yeah, I'm a bit anal about organizing stuff, but it sure makes it a whole lot easier to find something, and it all works for me. Jim, I also get much better, and usually much quicker results concentrating on one project at a time. For my current "mission" of building as many cars from the 1950's as I can, I have folders in my computer with reference pictures for each car (Buick, Cadillac, Chevy, etc.) for each year of the 50's showing models, colors, color charts, interiors, engines, etc.) that I refer to often while building, to try to get as many details as I can to make the models look as good as I can. -
It is so nice here today (in the low 50's) that I shut off the heat for the afternoon and opened up some windows. My wife was amazed..!!

1967 Cadillac W.I.P. -- A present for my brother.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Stan, I don't recall seeing your '66 Caddy. Feel free to post a picture in this thread. -
1967 Cadillac W.I.P. -- A present for my brother.
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in WIP: Model Cars
OK...... I'm back to working on this project for my brother. I stripped, repainted and cleared the body. This time I used Model Master enamel clearcoat instead of an acrylic clearcoat. I'll give it a few days to fully dry and then I will polish out the orange peel. I finished up the interior. It is painted with Duplicolor white primer then given a few coats of Tamiya semi-gloss clear. The carpet is flocked in Black. BMF was applied to the door panel and dashboard details and the speaker grille between the rear seats. Some black Detailer was applied to bring out some of the dashboard details. I made a shifter and directional signal stalk from pieces of shirt pins. I made interior visors from thin sheet plastic. A resin interior rear view mirror was painted chrome silver and the lens on a small rectangular, chrome taillight piece from my parts box was painted off white acrylic for an interior dome light. These will all be attached after the paint on the body is polished out, the BMF is applied, the headliner is painted, and the glass is installed. Thanks for looking in on this. Additional updates will come as they happen. Any and all comments are welcomed as usual. -
Chevy Vegas were shipped vertically
Ramfins59 replied to Quick GMC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Never knew that. -
I decided that jumping around between 3 different projects at the same time was counter productive. I wasn't really accomplishing a lot and none of the projects were getting much closer to completion. I put the '54 Dodge and the "Flash Gordon" car back in their respective boxes and decided to concentrate fully on the '67 Cadillac that I've been working on as a surprise gift for my younger brother who used to own one. So far I've completed the interior and repainted and clearcoated the body. I'll be posting updates on the WIP thread I already started on the Caddy. I normally only work on one project at a time but I got sidetracked and sucked into "fiddling" with several cars at the same time. It wasn't working for me. I understand that a lot of modelers DO jump around between different projects but I wonder how they do it and successfully get things finished.

Show Preference
Ramfins59 replied to Ramcharger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree. While I really like to compete against other good modelers, I never go in thinking that I will win anything. You never know what will show up on the tables that might just make you want to step on your stuff. I also totally enjoy the friendly atmosphere at an NNL event and seeing old friends again. -
Uelder, that is a gorgeous Woody. Great job.

That is one gorgeous T-Bucket. Fantastic job.

I think that looks pretty cool Ray. The car looks great and the display is not a bad idea... it reminds me of the old time car shows. I've thought about doing something like that myself with a bunch of mini trophies and a set of chain stanchions, mirror, tool box & tools, water, gas & oil cans etc. I'd probably skip adding any "Angel Hair"... LOL.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input. Dale, thanks for the "blow by blow". I'm kind of looking forward to not having to wear glasses anymore, but I'm thinking it will be a little strange in the beginning. I don't know if I'll recognize me without them...LOL. I don't drive anymore due to peripheral vision loss after my stroke back in 2000 and either my wife or daughter play chauffeur for me. The peripheral thing will never come back, but seeing clearly will be wonderful.

That's a great looking car Alan. Nice job.

That is one great looking Hot Rod Andy.

My eye specialist has me scheduled for Cataract Surgery on my left eye on March 19th. While I'm not overly concerned about it, I am just a bit apprehensive. I know it is the right thing to do because the vision in my left eye is getting progressively "foggier" as time goes on. I will also have to have my right eye done a little further down the road. After everything I went through after having my stroke back in 2000 (3 months of Rehab, Carotid Artery Surgery, 8 teeth + pieces pulled for dentures) I'm not really fearful of the procedure because I know it will benefit me and my life and in my enjoyment of this hobby. I was wondering if any other "old farts" on this Forum (I'll be 67 in early April) may have had this procedure done too, and how things turned out for them. Thanks guys.

Go John, Go man...... you are just showing us all how to really go nuts with detailing. Keep it up, you're doing a great job.

Blair, that is one wild lookin' Hot Rod.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input and comments. Walid, that Phantom Corsair is certainly a wild looking vehicle. Ira, that car looks great. What did you use to extend the rear fenders..?? Another question, you have an interior in the car yet it appears that you filled in the door lines... While I know it's only a model, how would one get into the car..?? LOL.
