  1. Damien came home from school sick today, so no work on the Prowlers. But, I don't wanna keep you waiting too long, so I thought I would post a pic of the trailers so you can see how they differ. The Revell trailer is comprised of two main parts, where the AMT trailer is comprised of three main parts. Note: since the copyright information is molded on the inside of the trailer, I didn't bother sanding it off - it will be closed up tight so nobody will ever see it anyway.
  2. I have a couple of updates on the Belvedere. First, I wanted to point out that while many people do this car with Petty blue wheels, or with the darker Industrial blue, when Richard ran the car at Daytona (and other races that year), the wheels were painted silver. Hence: I had to go back and repaint the radiator. I had originally painted it all black because I honestly thought that was what the color was. However, I found this picture of Lee Petty working on the '64 and realized that the radiator is actually silver-ish in color: As such, I had to repaint the radiator like so: That's about it for now.
  3. I was unsure exactly where to post this, so if this is the wrong place then I apologize. If any of you lives near a Roberts, they are going out of business and closing the retail stores. Things are 50% off. They don't sell models at all, but they do have art and craft supplies. I went in and picked up some paint, but my daughter Genevieve noticed a set of 18 different colors of flocking by Hampton Art for only $12.50 (normally $25). They all come in a small bottle with a snap-cap. The cap has small holes in it so you can sprinkle the flocking out easily. The flocking is finer (smaller bits) than the stuff I usually get from Detail Master, so this should look even better than the regular stuff. Here's a picture of the bottle to show you:
  4. I have an update on the Petty car. Some of you may know this, but others may not. While Richard's cars are mostly painted in Petty blue, not all the parts are done in Petty blue. For instance, the engines, suspension, and the fuel tank cover are done in Industrial blue, which is a darker blue. Here's a shot of the frame showing the two different colors: Forgive the blurriness - my camera is cheap and sometimes just doesn't quite like to take clear pics for whatever reason. Here's an overall shot of the chassis so far:
  5. It's been a bit slow with the build lately - rain is not conductive to a nice paint job - go figure!!
  6. hey, that would be fun, Ian. Haven't tried that game (Dirt 2). The slow cars in GT5 are good for the younger kids, though - Genevieve has a heck of a time with the fast ones. Stephen is a little irritated at his brother, though - Damien got lower times than Stephen did on a few of the tracks - he he.
  7. While I am working on a couple of Plymouth Prowlers (and as that build is subject to Damien's schedule), I have also decided to start on the Lindberg 1964 Belvedere of Richard Petty's. Here's the body and the rollcage with paint: The color of the body is closer to what the actual paint color looks like - for whatever reason, the rollcage came out looking darker than it really is. Yes, I have a crappy camera. I also started working on the front end, which included cleaning up the K-member - here's before and after shots - you can see the solid stock piece on the bottom and the cleaned up piece on top: This build will be mostly a box-stock build. I do have some reference pics, but any other comments are appreciated.
  8. Well, we've got the basic body colors laid on this morning. You can see the Revell Prowler in Black Cherry on the left and the AMT Prowler in Black on the right. This also highlights the differences between the two brands' bodies.
  9. he he - thanks, Ian - sorry, but today was a clean up day as dictated by mom - everyone had a job or three to be done before anything could be done for fun. Then wouldn't you know it? My kids give me a late Christmas present of Gran Turismo 5 and the family's been playing that all evening. We'll try to get something going for you tomorrow, man.
  10. Well, we've got the bodies primered and we have started laying down some paint - Damien has decided to make his a black vehicle - he's still trying to decide on the interior color, but he thinks that he wants red carpeting in there. I've decided to go with a black cherry color on the outside and a grey colored interior, although this may become a black interior depending on my mood. We've also started some of the brush painting - Damien started with the black: Since he was using the black, I started with the silver: Damien got only a few parts painted before he got tired of it, so we are taking a break now. We may get back to this again tonight - it depends on how Damien feels.
  11. Not much to report right now - we just finished sanding the bodies and putting the first coats of primer on them. I expect we'll be doing some brushwork tomorrow, but the pace for these builds will all be up to Damien to determine - I won't rush him, but I won't keep him waiting either.
  12. Well, I figured my first thread on this forum would have to be about a new build. So, here goes. For Christmas, my son (Damien) got an AMT Prowler. He knew that I had an unbuilt kit sitting in my stash, so he asked me if we could build them together. I decided that might be kinda fun to build them together, so I said yes. Damien and I have started our little build now. The two kits we are doing are shown here. Damien is doing the AMT yellow Prowler, while I am doing the purple Revell Prowler. Just so you know - although they are both 1/25 scale, and although they both come with a trailer, these are NOT the same kit. The parts are different and even the seams on the bodies are different. Damien's body seam ran down the front, while the other kit had the body seams on the sides. Here are the parts from the AMT kit after being washed (yes, Damien washed them himself): And here are the parts from the Revell kit: Time to let everything dry, then priming and painting can commence.
  13. I'm wondering if there are any modeling clubs in Utah County in Utah. My daughter and one of my sons are both interested in going to a club if there is one. Thanks
