  1. Looks good Jason I assume that started life as a GT Vert?. Tailights look good also, did you make them from scratch? I made some progress on the Saleen. I originally was trying to just modify the 93 Cobra ground effects, but I decided to take it a step further. The only thing I was really satisfied with was the front grill. I spent some time in the garage with #583. I took some measurements using the bottom of the belt line molding as a reference, and quickly realized the front airdam on the cobra body doesnt come down far enough. The airdam on the Saleen is as low as the side skirts are. One of the reasons the car looks so aggressive. So I removed the airdam with a razor saw. You can see how much space is between the parts. Here is a side view. So I added some evergreen strip styrene and built up the area.... Then glued the airdam back in place. I also added some body filler to it to cover the earlier holes I made. Once I get the shape right, I will drill and shape new ones. I scribed a couple of lines in the front moulding to replicate the bumper filler. Originally I just smoothed out the cobra bumper and enlarged the tailpipe openings. To make it more accurate, I drilled three holes in a straight line across the valence, even with the tailpipe slots. I then used the backside of a hobbyknife to scribe through and open up a thin slot. I used a small piece of sandpaper and slowly enlarged the slot till it looked right, then I added three pieces of styrene Rod on the back side. Not perfect, It doesn't quite wrap under the way the real one does, and the tailipe openings are a bit to far toward the center and the slot is not wide enough, but I think it looks convincing.
  2. Sweet Roy. Did that start as the monogram 1992 GT Vert?
  3. Sucks you missed it. Sounds like a good deal. Just now thinking about it, I havent been stangless since I turned 16, over 20 years ago.
  4. Your Turbo GT sounds like a very cool build. If you like SA-10s, check out What Bob is doing. http://www.almost4.com/the-find.html He found the car that was supposed to be made into SA-10 #4 and is building the ultimate tribute car.
  5. No toes stepped on Bradley. There are a lot more tribute cars out there than there are docmented Saleens. At least you know what a Saleen Mustang is, I usually have to explaine how to pronounce the word and explaine what it means.
  6. It is, installed it for the harnesses when I dabbled in open tracking the car. It gives a nice boy racer feel.
  7. here you go They are longer than SVO panels. They do a good job of covering the uv damaged quarter window moldings too. I have a glue bomb SVO model I plan on using to replicate these on the one Im building, but I will have to make them bigger to make them fit.
  8. here is a pic of the car before I installed the covers. the back side of the panels, they are abs plastic, I had them professionaly painted. During the install I take it as a compliment that detail oriented enthusiasts such as yourselves thought they were SVO sail Panels, that tells me they dont look tacked on.
  9. You have a sharp eye Bradley, but if you look close, those arent SVO sail panels, they are sail panel covers. Saleen planned to use them on all the aero cars, and actually installed them on a dozen of so of the first 1987 Saleens built. They quickly found the tape used to hold them on didnt stick well, and they fell off while driving. If you look in the Saleen registry, the majority of cars in 1987 are listed as "sail panel (d)". This is a picture of a preproduction 1987 Saleen. Notice the sail panel covers and prototype 5 star wheels that didnt show up till late 1988 production. I always liked the look of the car in the above picture. I bought a set of the sail panel covers years ago when they were readily available and figured out a way to get them to stay in place. Its not original to my 1988 Saleen, but its original to the way the car was meant to look. #583 is not 100% factory correct, but anything I have changed has been in the spirit of the original (or later, in the case of the vortech supercharger, which was optional in 1992 and 1993) Fox Saleen Concept. I have had the car going on 17 years and it was my daily driver for the first 5 of those, that made me not as concerned with originality as some would be. Check out the SCOA website and forum, more info on fox Saleens than you can shake a stick at. http://www.saleenclubofamerica.com/ Hopefuly I will have more work done on the saleen model soon, You guys have inspired me to make it more acurate.
  10. Nice build Rick, Any updates?
  11. Thanks Chris PM sent
  12. I may go with the one from the speedster kit Ryan. Getting a decal custom made seems pricey. I have silver trim tape to use for the side stripes Dirk. The side skirts Im not sure what Im going to do, I may try to build up the front and rear corners with styrene and putty, or I may just leave them Cobra.
  13. This is a great thread with some great builds. Very inspirational. This thread and one on foureyedpride inspred me to start working on this again. Joined the forum because of this CBP. Hope I can contribute some. This started life as a 1993 Cobra. Im trying to come close to making a replica of my 1:1 1988 Saleen Mustang. i stared it 5 years ago. I figure as long as it looks close, thats good enough for me, otherwise, like so many models I start, I will never finish it. The wheels and tires are from the Buick GNX kit. It has the resin Saleen wing and I modified the front and rear facia to resemble the Saleen stuff, as well as modifying the grill from the Cobra to an LX. I made the front wheels turn for photografic purposes. 1988 #583 Any Ideas on how to reproduce the windshield banner?
