With some outside shots before the sun went down..... Overall I am very pleased with the results. I listened to some other builders of the car like Jay and Bob Downie (Thanks guys) and I sanded the front Radiator and Hood Hinge brace so the front end sat down better. Adjusting the ride height took care of the rest. I really like this kit and The Exhaust pipes made from metal are a nice touch by Revell. Paint is TS-14 followed by dupont clear. Wheels were painted "Black Chrome" by misting Alclad chrome over gloss black wheels. Much inspired by the P&M C6RS.

Thanks guys.... I tinted the covers but it is not that noticeable over black.... > I also made an extended splitter covered in CF and clear Only needs fog light lenses and housings and the front end is done! Rear tails and third brake light are in.... I also painted the floor pan chassis and added CF to the rear valance. The airbox is all CF and I painted the intake, and valve covers bright red and all of it was cleared..... A few more mock ups.... One mean Z!!!!!

Thanks guys.... interior is done! Tamiya acrylics, CF, and some stock seatbelts finished it off. I was going to use flocking... but it wont be seen! Here is why I did not flock the interior. I did all the glass and used tamiya smoke on the rear window. Just 2 light coats and its dark! These pics give you an idea of the red and black and how nice they blend.......

And I am back on it again..... Here is the beauty of the Detail up parts set.... A pre painted spring and nice brass anodized oil reservoir! The rear swing arm is ready to go in the frame.... the chain I really detailed to look as real as possible... lastly the swingarm was installed..... next up is exhaust staining.

Thanks Nick....

Nice job Izzy... its fun restoring old bombs and I love the C3 body style. It always looked like a spider squatting from the rear!

Here is the inspiration: The P&M C6RS in black. I will not be doing any body mods.... Just following the color combination. The wheels on the C6RS are BBS with a "Metalite" coating. It has the look of black chrome. To simulate this, the wheels were stripped, shot with TS-14 black and given a dusting of alclad chrome. Jumping ahead to mock up shots... I detailed and installed the brakes and added red hash marks seen on Grand sports and C6-Rs..... I hope I can get this stance!! I will be adding lots of CF to the car as well..... Paint is Tamiya Grey primer, TS-14 Black and dupont 2k clear

Well this one needed to be getting along so I did a bit on it this weekend.... Engine complete using various alclads and washes: Engine permanantly installed in the frame: Wheels and tires complete. The green stripes got cursed at a few times! : Finally I did some CF work with SMS Hi def decals on the rear seat back, airbox, and rear fender followed by dupont clear more to come! DaveT

Krylon??????
David Thibodeau replied to Hillbilly Deluxe's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
John... Krylon is very finicky from time to time. I have used their primer and I personally hate it. It does not cover well and crazes too much. I think if you use duplicolor White primer it would have been better off. Just my opinion. I have never had problems with Krylon using it over duplicolor filler primer in white, Grey, even black. The Blue I will be using for the National guard car when I do it is House of Kolor... IT can be purchased at Slixx.com. I would pick up some Stratto Blue basecoat and Kandy Kobalt Transparent Candy to go over that followed by a clearcoat. Thanks for the comments.... DaveT

WIP: Rusty Wallace's "LAst call" 2005 Charger

This should help you Chris.. Sarge and Jay asked about the stands that to me Clay made popular.... Here is what you need to make the stand. .32mm X .40MM plastistruct tubing and (in this case) some channel tubing that I dont recall the size on to reinforce the vertical parts..... I chose to paint this stand charcoal and accent the joints wih silver for weld joints.... another trick made popular by Mr Kemp. Here is a closeup of the stand assembled and complete. Now I cannot provide consistent measurements because each car they are built for are different, its all done by eye and trial and fitting it to the car. Tricky part is getting to sit rock solid.. Its not rocket science.....pretty basic plastic building technique. IF your patient and build it clean, it really sets off the model!! You could use thinner material, in fact Clay and I discussed thinner tubing. I used thinner stuff on the pirates car and I never got the teetering issue solved.. food for thought!! : -

Exhaust, is in, I basically used the kit dump with new pipes made out of plumbers solder... then I heated them up with alclad and tamiya clear orange..... Still need to add a black wash but you get the idea.... ;D Driveshaft is made and installed. Not much left to do on the bottom but add trans mount, bracing and front brake cooling hoses.... Skirting is also installed. Made out of black styrene and detailed with pro tech .030 bolts.... I think its time to make a stand too!!!! : -

With the detail itch still present, I fixated on finishing up the engine bay on the Miller lite car. It is done except for carb linkage details and duct work since it is a short track car...... Front suspension and brakes are also complete... Final pic of body temporarily on the car.... I will finish up the interior and trunk detail and the body will go on for good... its getting close!! Dave Reutimann's 2004 CTS Toyota Tundra
David Thibodeau replied to David Thibodeau's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Thanks guys.... Izzy, Detailmaster makes PE hinges for this purpose. They have holes in the bases and what I do is drill a hole in the side of the hood or trunk and the opposite side where the other hinge goes. I insert small pieces of brass wire glued in these drilled holes. Then take the hinge and slid it on the brass rod and glue it in well. Then cut the excess off and sand flush. The brass rod gived the hinge more strength... Its not a necessity to do it this way but it lowers the risk of the hinge breaking off after a paint job..... By the way, I love what you did for my buddy Jay with his vette!!! DaveT
