  1. I took a break from the FXX and progressed more on this amazing MFH kit!! Interior is 95% complete The transmission and rear suspension are coming along well.....Lots of white metal cleanup is required! More to come soon!
  2. Scale finishes Rocks!!!!
  3. Lookin good Jameston!!! What paint is that Tamiya?? DaveT
  4. I got alot done in the last few days off for New Years. Here is a sample of the beautiful brake assemblies in the kit. They are so detailed..... I shot the rotors with Tamiya Metallic grey to simulate carbon material. Engine is also far along...... A run down here: Block was airbrushed Tamiya Flat aluminum at low PSI to get the "cast" look. Valve covers were treated with Krylon "Suede it" paint for texture, then primed White, sprayed bright red, followed by testors dullcoat. The heat shield and fuel rail is PE from the SMS kit. I added all the plug lines using protech wire. Look at the brake detail on the rotors! The exhaust was heat stained very heavily using Tamiya gloss black out of the can, Alclad chrome, copper, pale gold and Tamiya clear acrylics... I also added the O2 sensor lines and plugs. The blue coolant lines were added as well using Protech hose and detailmaster hardline. The air intake is very visible on the engine top and really sets the bay off. I was very careful to get it right. Again Krylon suede it was used for the texture followed by Krylon ultra flat black. Then the red ribs are PE pieces painted red provided in the SMS kit. Ferrari logos are metal transfers from the tamiya kit. I topped it off with a oil cap from sakastsu and BMF clamps. Here it is in position. more to come soon! DaveT
  5. 24 hrs..... Thanks guys... I am making progress on the powerplant now.... more updates soon! DaveT
  6. Inner door panels were Cf'ed with Hi def and Twill weave cleared with 2 part clear. Dash was carefully covered in correct areas with Hi def and 3 coats of future applied. Here are a few mockups with panels in place to test fit and for motivation!! Stay tuned!! much more to come!! DaveT
  7. With the holiday pretty much behind I decided to get back on JT's FXX. The wheels were converted to be removable with all turned aluminum collars and threaded nuts. Once the conversion was complete the wheels were primed, painted and decaled. All the tedious carbon fiber application using Scale motorsport high def was applied to the interior tub and cleared with 2-3 coats of future thru the airbrush. Seats were also installed at this time. The monocoque chassis was primed, shot with krylon semi gloss black and sides were carbon decaled again with high def decal and future. Rear fire wall and sides were covered in cigarette foil made from templates and applied with white glue. Here is the engine bay ready for the powerplant. The overflow tank is provided in the superkit. Much nicer than the kit piece! Rear side panels and fenders are complete. The chassis brackets are PE units from the Superkit.
  8. Thanks guys.... more done.... Entire front suspension is done along with the seat assembly...... Entire front suspension is all in the kit except brake lines that were done using protech braid. The kit provides decal to do the design on the seats. I painted the seat with krylon suede it to provide texture. Then covered it in cherry red krylon spray. Once decals were added I dullcoated the seat and added pro tech bolts and kit seatbelts and hardware. DaveT
  9. thanks guys.... trying to knock out some interior stuff..... Krylon "suede it was applied to the seats and painted flat black. High def CF was applied to the seatbacks and the SMS seatbelts were assembled from the super kit. Dave T
  10. Thanks!!! More progress.... Ignition system installation has begun along with front end detail. The fire bottle was added. Kind of suprising the MFH kit did not include it. also added some decals!
  11. Great work thus far Bill.... Good to see you back even if you did go small!! DaveT
  12. More done..... Engine is in place... Again, keep in mind anything that is silver here is the white metal that has been polished or finessed in some way. Plug wires are from Pro tech and the clear tube is craft clear bead wire. The kit comes with all of this but I think the plug wires are too narrow in the kit and they shorted me the clear tubing. Front headlights buckets were carefully painted with Acryl semi gloss black. The gas tank covers are Photoetch plates I scuffed to match the rest of the metal underside.
  13. Small update on this one. Undercarriage carbon is in process. I added SMS Twill weave, one coat of Urethane clear and once dry I added pro tech .020 PE bolts in all the molded in locations..... More soon!
  14. Ed Sexton sent me this one to build. My first MFH kit! Lots of metal, Resin, Brass wheels and photoetch...... The real deal except I am doing the #86 car....... Cleaned up the metal boxster 12 cylinder with steel wool and metal polish. Wheels and tires done minus scuffing the tread. Wheels are brass turned pieces. Firestone logos are stencils... Chassis is also metal cleaned with steel wool and lightly polished. Then cleared with metalizer sealer.Nothing like real metal!! Body parts are resin and metal for scoops and small accessories. All was cleaned up and shot with white plastikote primer and painted with Rosso Corsa from scalefinishes. Cleared with dupont 2k.
  15. Comment removed...... not worth fighting about this...........
  16. Oh I know your feelings Harry.......
  17. To reinforce Jamie here, Nascar has become a Cash cow, a victim of its own creation, a sinking ship if you will but the fact is Jamie like myself love the CARS..... even the jelly bean all the same looking, Tuner fast & furious cars as you all call the COT. Regardless of how Nascar destroys itself as a sport... I enjoy building scale replicas of the cars that race in it PERIOD...... And Revell was the source and is now done. I read all of the responses and besides Jamie and I, I really didnt see anyone that was unhappy the kits wont be available. Just blantant hatred for the sport. Even if builders like myself and Jamie and a few others were not bashed. it is offensive in a way......... Or atleast enough to make me wonder if you all hated seeing my superdetailed builds such as the pirates of the carribean pontiac that was on here and in the magazine... or any of my stock builds............ I cant help but think twice about posting anything nascar related on this board in the future.... To sum it up..... "Tell us Nascar fans and builders how you all REALLY Feel??" DaveT
  18. Thanks for the input guys... I went with my gut and added the stripe...... what a nice contrast I think.....
  19. Thanks guys, here are more pics of the goodies in this superkit from SMS............ Look at all the goodies!! And photoetch!!!! Oh and I did what polishing was needed with 2000 grit and perfect it III rubbing compound from 3M.... Now I need to decide on the stripes or not.......I mean what is totally cool about these decals is how there is a bonding stripe down the middle of the whole car. That makes the weave all the more convincing and the stripe will hide that.... I need votes!! ;D Stripe or no stripe? DaveT
  20. Yes it does Dirk. Turned aluminum oil tanks, Total conversion to make the wheels removable, Brakes, etc.... its nice stuff!!! Thanks !! DaveT
  21. The illusive FXX that no one knows if it exists! Even Ferrari will not acknowledge its existence. Many say it became Schumacher's Metallic Black FXX but there is no concrete evidence. One thing that is evident..... SCALE MOTORSPORT FXX SUPER KIT...... its awesome.... the decals are unlike any I have ever seen or used................... The Superkit states to paint the pieces black and the decal does the rest....... As you can see they are overlays that provide an incredibly realistic weave! In fact if you were going for the flat carbon look they are perfect!! They are very thin.... and the instructions say to only use DECAL SET, Not SOLVENT... and they are right. Apply them, coat them with set and walk away and they do their magic..... And the real magic happens after 2K clear... I wanted blinding gloss!!! Look at these body pieces.... the weave is simply breathtaking...... thats dupont 2k clear freshly applied.... it needs time to shrink back and only minor polishing.....
  22. Thanks guys.. Phase 2 of this project will have to wait a bit as I have to get on a Special project for the "boss" who lives in Hawaii........
  23. Yep...... Dirk is the man.... I was awe struck by this thing in Atlanta.... I think it was Best in show material if it wasnt for that piece of junk Morton built...... Just for the record Scrap...... you had my vote!!! DaveT
  24. Built to replicate (For the most part) the car JPM swapped with Jeff Gordon at the brickyard in June of 2003. Revell of Germany FW23 Kit, Scalefinishes BMW F1 blue, white basecoat and dupont clear. Supplemental decals provided by John Barker combined with Kit decals. All in all a nice representation of the car even though the Revell Of Germany kit is rough around the edges!! DaveT
