Best Settings For Digital Photos
David Thibodeau replied to m408's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Your camera needs to have an F stop (aperature) of atleast F8. This will get the subject in focus. I also play with the exposure compensation on my camera as well. If you have a point and shoot camera you will have a hard time getting consistent in focus picutres. The white balance has alot to do with good pics as well. I learned alot just by playing around with my Olympus I have. But it has alot of manual settings which are a must!! Dave T -
I always wondered how the amt 1/16th kits were. This one was sent by the same client I did the 73 1/16th charger for... This kit was pure hassle from the time I opened the box! Lots of mods to make it look "decent" especially the stance. Built boxstock with PPG Petty blue, sem stoplight red, and dupont clear with slixx decals........ glad it is done!! DaveT

Any Florida Model Car Clubs?
David Thibodeau replied to Sticky Fingers's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Clay Kemp does not live in FL... he lives in Indianapolis. I live in Zephyrhills FL.... I dont belong to any club... but I do attend a few MAG shows.... great bunch of guys!!! DaveT -
Should not bother you.... your anti nascar anyways.... I seem to recall you not being a fan of this nascar section to begin with?

Just like ANY sport these days....... Football is a bit guilty of the almighty dollar as well and has become very decisive in their airing of specific games during the season. I recall the birth of the NFL network being their CASH MONSTER. Heck, if you have Brighthouse cable and not verizon you cant even get the NFL NETWORK. Apparently Verizon was willing to shell out the money to provide the NFL NETWORK for their customers making it a big competition amongst the cable providers... My point being this.... ALL SPORTS are becoming giant cash monsters.... its the way the world turns... As far as the COT car, I personally like the thing.... it looks killer on the track and that rear wing saved alot of loose drivers at daytona. If Revell does not produce it its their loss.... Mike from Mikes decals has the Impala SS body on his site right now and 88 decals being produced as I speak.... there will be more to come as well so not all is lost!! DaveT

Thanks Dave... I used your hints on this car... and they are quite helpful..... DaveT -
Built using the new Model King Repop of the old MPC cannonball run S-3 kit. I did it curbside because the MPC chassis is so inaccurate. Decals are powerslide... paint is Tamiya light blue and 2 part clear. Both the decals and kits can be purchased at www.mikesdecals.com Thanks for looking!

Detailing Vs Overboard
David Thibodeau replied to DrewC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess I make mistakes all the time then!!! Funny you mention in particular "Race cars"....... I have seen all kinds of out of scale parts on all kinds of cars.... One out of scale Pontiac 2003 Nascar Engine... To each his own OPINION... its your model whether you build it to compete, self satisfaction, or hear others go WOW..... its all about PURE model enjoyment..... I build to all kinds of levels... Stock to extreme... its all how I plan to do that particular car... its the kind of modeler I am.... But like Mr Drew pointed out.... Detailing can become a sickness... you see a car, study it, become consumed by it and want to reproduce it in fine detail... whether its 1:12 or 1:25th... it can be done... Just my 2 cents and I dont express it often on this board but the negativity towards superdetailing in particular NASCAR subjects gets a little old.......... Flame away....... DaveT -

Jamie, Short track cars have these setups for added handling..... More is done on this one!! (Gregg can this be moved to the NASCAR section?) Decided to get back on this one for the weekend.. Engine is in!!! more detail needs to be added but its in! With body on: Roof decal applied: Tire detail complete: -
Cody, NEVER use Laquer products on Carbon fiber decals. It will eat them for lunch. I have used future, but lately 2 part clear works very well over Scale motorsport decals. Tamiya clear will work over certain brands though. I have used it on Modelers brand CF with no issues. Its a trial and error thing you have to work out! DaveT

I think it was issue # 124 I believe? If you want to order the back issue. I wrote a complete article including using Scale motorsport Carbon fiber Decals. I highly reccomend you do that step. Here are pics of mine... .The photo etch kit really saves alot of time with the pre made PE mesh... the seatbelts are real nice as well.... Here is the issue Bob was talking about with the rear bonnett. I decided to leave since I added alot of extra detail to the engine compartment and it would spent most of its time displayed that way.... Here is the engine compartment : A few more.... If you have any questions feel free to contact me. DaveT

Complete: Nicky Hayden's 2006 Repsol Ride..
David Thibodeau replied to David Thibodeau's topic in Model Cars
Actually I think Rossi has done quite well with Yamaha! The exhaust heat staining is done in 3 parts. First I cleaned them up and painted them with Tamiya GLoss black from the can. Then I coated them with Alclad CHROME. That is key!! Then I masked off the weld seams and shot various shades of tamiya clear orange, Reds, yellows, and blues going off 1:1 pics... key is to NOT overdo it. Thanks all, glad you like it!! DaveT -
Innacurate... but still close to his 2006 GPMOTO ride..... boxstock with Modelers CF editions...... Here it is before installation of all the cowlings..... and with all body work installed........... Thanks for looking!! Dave T
-
That looks awesome Matt.... By the way.... I have in my possession a 935 martini kit with the SMS kit on the way....

Looks awesome Charlie, your parts really set it off.... but we already knew this!!!
